Play better football’ – Jurgen Klopp criticises Tottenham and Ryan Mason

In his post-match press conference, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has instructed Tottenham Hotspur’s Acting Head Coach Ryan Mason to worry about his style of football rather than trying to get players sent off.

Tottenham found themselves on the wrong end of an entertaining affair at Anfield this evening, as Klopp’s men stole all three points in the dying moments of the game.

Liverpool stormed to a three-goal lead in the opening 15 minutes thanks to goals from Curtis Jones, Luis Diaz, and Mo Salah. Harry Kane pulled one back for Spurs before halftime to give the away side something to play for.

Heung-min Son then made things very interesting on 77 minutes with a cool finish, before substitute Richarlison seemingly grabbed a point for Spurs in injury time.

It wasn’t to be, however, as Diogo Jota scored just a minute later to seal the win for Liverpool.

Responding to Mason’s suggestion that Jota should have been shown a red card for a high foot on Oliver Skipp, Klopp took the opportunity to criticise the young coach’s approach to the game.

He told BBC Sport: “I understand that. Ryan [Mason] has to worry about other stuff. They’re such a good football team, Tottenham, they have to play better football. They can’t just counter-attack, they have to play better football with that team.

“Diogo Jota has the foot high but he’s not going for the head. I heard Oliver Skipp could’ve had a red card. Did he speak about that as well? Wanting Diogo Jota off the pitch, worry about other stuff.”

I don’t know how he does it, but Jurgen Klopp always finds a way to be a sore winner.

The high foot on Skipp was incredibly dangerous from Jota and probably should have been a red card.

It wasn’t given, and Jota scored the winner, so I can totally understand Mason’s frustration.
