Fabrizio Romano confirms West Ham are interested in midfielder as another transfer falls through

West Ham United have an interest in Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez this summer as they look out for new signings in that area of the pitch.

Alvarez is one of a number of options being considered by the Hammers, according to Fabrizio Romano in his exclusive CaughtOffside column, with the Mexico international no longer heading for Borussia Dortmund.

A deal looked close, but Romano has explained that he was too expensive for the Bundesliga side in the end, and West Ham could now be an option for him.

David Moyes faces losing Declan Rice this summer, and Alvarez could be an ideal replacement, though former Chelsea loanee Denis Zakaria is also on the east Londoners’ radar.

Alvarez has impressed at Ajax and could be a good option for most Premier League clubs, with the 25-year-old likely to be keen to test himself in a more competitive league sooner or later.

West Ham will undoubtedly miss a talent like Rice, but if they can partner players like Alvarez or Zakaria alongside Lucas Paqueta, they should still be in decent shape next season.

Arsenal given 72-hour warning by West Ham board confidant with David Sullivan prepared to ‘walk away’ from Declan Rice deal

Arsenal have been given a 72-hour warning by a West Ham board confidant with David Sullivan prepared to ‘walk away’ from the Declan Rice deal.

As the Declan Rice transfer saga between Arsenal and West Ham continues to drag on there has been yet another twist.

The big hold up on the deal is down to the period over which the Gunners pay the British transfer record £105m to the Hammers.

West Ham want the money over a maximum of 18 months whereas Arsenal’s offer was set out over four years.

It seemed only a matter of time until that issue was ironed out and the deal is sealed between West Ham and Arsenal.

Especially with West Ham co-owner David Sullivan and Rice back from respective holidays over the weekend.

Many fans of both the Gunners and the Hammers expected to see the deal completed and perhaps even announced on Monday.

Particularly after an update from a reporter close to the West Ham board over the weekend, which stated the east Londoners could end up getting more than the £105m mooted.

But it seems Arsenal are refusing to sufficiently budge on the payment terms. And West Ham are not going to bow down.

‘Take it or leave it’
Arsenal have been given a 72-hour warning by a West Ham board confidant with Sullivan prepared to ‘walk away’ from the Rice deal.

“West Ham are prepared to walk away from £105m deal with Arsenal if they don’t get their way in the next 72 hours,” West Ham board confidant Sean Whetstone said.

“The Hammers have dug in and made their position clear on payment structure and other clauses to successfully conclude the deal.
