United Set To Fall£30M Short With Opening Offer For Chelsea Star As Staggering Asking Price Is Revealed

Manchester United are lining up a £55m bid for Chelsea attacking midfielder Mason Mount but it’s likely to fall £30m below the player’s valuation, according to the Daily Mail.

The Blues are prepared to hold out for a massive £85m, despite the fact that the England international only has a year left on his contract at Stamford Bridge.

Mount has been locked in discussions over extending his stay at Chelsea for a number of months but negotiations have stalled and his departure this summer is now widely expected.

Up until now, Liverpool have been regarded as favourites for the 24-year-old’s signature, with Arsenal having also joined the race over the last month.

However, the Mail claim that United are “set to commence” talks with Chelsea, and they may well look to increase their opening offer for Mount if, as expected, it is knocked back.

Why is Mount looking to leave Chelsea?

Mount is earning £75,000 a week and it is believed that he wants to be on a salary that is commensurate with his importance to the team.

Chelsea’s top earners, Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly, are on around £300,000 a week, which is four times Mount’s current wages and, while the midfielder doesn’t expect to be given such a high amount, he was still hoping to be offered a much-improved pay packet. It seems as though the proposal currently on the table is far below his expectations.

Manchester United begin‘groundwork’for Evan Ferguson deal

Manchester United have ‘laid down groundwork’ in a bid to sign Brighton forward Evan Ferguson next summer.

United are understood to have ‘earmarked’ Ferguson as a transfer target for the 2024 summer transfer window, following the forward’s exciting emergence at the Amex Stadium this season.

The 18-year-old has scored 10 goals in all competitions for the Seagulls and his performances have not gone unnoticed elsewhere in the division, with both Manchester City and Tottenham considering the Irishman as a long-term target.

Manchester United previously missed the chance to sign Ferguson after a trial at Old Trafford, but Sky Sports are reporting the Red Devils are keen to address that ‘mistake’.

Erik ten Hag is keen to sign a centre-forward this summer and the club are pursuing a deal for Tottenham’s Harry Kane, but Ferguson is viewed as a player who could lead the line for the long-term future.

Ferguson signed a new contract at Brighton last month and is expected to remain on the south coast next season, but the growing interest in his services mean 2024 offers are anticipated.

Tottenham and Manchester City each view Ferguson as a potential successor to Harry Kane and Erling Haaland respectively, with the Premier League’s top teams impressed with how the teenager has handled the step up to senior level in seamless fashion.

Ferguson – who had trials at Liverpool, Manchester United, Everton and Celtic before deciding to sign for Brighton on the basis of a clearer path to first-team football – marked his full Ireland debut with a goal against Latvia in March.
