Man Utd move in to sign £149million Liverpool target – Report

Manchester United are looking to improve their defensive midfield position and the latest name in the lime light is Marco Verratti.

If reports in the French media are anything to go by then Man Utd have moved in to lure the Italian international, who is expected to leave Paris Saint-Germain this summer.

Read – Man Utd now table £32.5million bid, above asking price, to secure signing

According to L’Equipe (via PSG Report), the Red Devils and German champions, Bayern Munich, have come forward to hire the services of Verratti.

The versatile 30-year-old, who can effectively play in the CM and DM roles, has an agreement with Saudi side Al-Ahli but they have yet to agree a fee with the Ligue 1 champions.

Last month, Marca (via Paisley Gates) revealed that Liverpool are prepared to sign the Azzurri star for whom PSG want a fee of 70 million euros (£60million).

As per L’Equipe (via GFFN), a move to Old Trafford cannot be ruled out for the veteran.

Verratti is a proven quality and decorated midfielder who has won 30 domestic titles in Paris. Moreover, he was a key member of the Italian squad that won the European Championships under the guidance of Roberto Mancini two years ago.

The 55-capped star has the experience to improve things in the center of the park for Erik ten Hag but Man Utd will have to offer ridiculous wages to convince him to turn down the interest from the Middle East.

As per Corriere dello Sport, Al-Ahli have agreed a contract that will make the player earn 50 million euros per season for the next three years.

Have your say – Should Man Utd offer £60million to sign Marco Verratti?

Bid rejected for player Liverpool’admires’while $41m man turns down Manchester United transfer

Liverpool has its first win of the season after beating Bournemouth on Saturday — but it’s still clear Jürgen Klopp has work to do in the transfer market.

Newest signing Wataru Endo was handed his debut at Anfield as he came off the bench following the sending-off of Alexis Mac Allister, but Liverpool fans will be hoping the Japan international isn’t the last addition to be made this summer.

A younger option to battle with Endo for the number six role is ideally needed, while a new defender is also required to add back-up to Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konaté.

But with less than two weeks to go until the window closes, time is running out for Liverpool and its rivals to get deals over the line.

Among those that look as though they could be on the move in the coming days are a couple of players who have been linked with a move to Anfield, although both look to have hit hurdles in potential moves.

Here, Liverpool.com takes a scan around the other big sides in the Premier League and around Europe to take a look at the news going on at the other clubs.

West Ham bid rejected for Mohammed Kudus

West Ham has had a bid rejected for Ajax winger Mohammed Kudus, according to The Athletic.

HBAgency

The report claims the Hammers’ technical director Tim Steidten flew to Amsterdam on Thursday in order to try and secure a deal for the Ghana international. The offer failed to meet Ajax’s valuation, although Kudus is said to still desire a move away from the Netherlands before the end of the transfer window.

Liverpool.com says: It seems inevitable that Kudus will end up in the Premier League, it’s just a question of where. West Ham looks to be leading the way at the moment, although plenty of sides have been linked, with Liverpool (via Football Transfers and others) supposedly admirers as well.

Whoever does get him, the Reds might well keep an eye on his progress as a future transfer option. He is a versatile and technically gifted attacker, as the Reds found last season when he scored an excellent goal at Anfield.

Benjamin Pavard favors Inter Milan over Manchester United

Benjamin Pavard favors a move to Inter Milan over Manchester United this summer, according to La Gazzetta Dello Sport.

HBAgency
HBAgency

Inter is said to be challenging United for the French international, although the Italian side is struggling to strike a deal with Bayern Munich. The German champion has reportedly already turned down bids of $27m (£21m/€25m) and $33m (£27m/€30m), while Manchester United has tabled a bid of $41m (£33m/€38m).

Liverpool.com says: If Pavard is available, he could conceivably still be an option for Liverpool to consider. Ideally, the Reds need to sign a left-footed center-back, but Pavard’s versatility could potentially free up Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Besides that, the chance to hijack another Manchester United transfer would be very tempting…

Pundit urges Liverpool fans to ‘look out’ as ‘whispers’ around new midfielder grow louder – report

It’s not a surprise to see Liverpool linked with another midfielder at this point in the transfer window but it seems at this point that one name just won’t go away, when it comes to being touted as becoming our latest signing.

Speaking on the Ranks FC Ultras Podcast, Dean Jones reported: “I would also say that they’re not finished. They probably will sign another midfielder. Look out for this Amrabat stuff that is starting to do whispers.

“I’m not saying they will sign Amrabat, but I didn’t think there was anything in it at first, but now I don’t believe that is totally the case and they are trying to find out if Amrabat would consider joining another Premier League team that isn’t Man United.

READ MORE: Pundit comments on Liverpool links to 20-year-old Belgian international – report

“After being hijacked themselves for Lavia, maybe they hijack their rivals and sign their top target”.

Given the failure to secure the signings of both Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia, Jurgen Klopp had to reassess his needs for the campaign ahead and that led to the surprise signing of Wataru Endo.

Now the next decision will be whether we add another body to our midfield ranks, strengthen elsewhere in the squad or wait for the January window and see how we fare in the first half of the campaign.

When it comes to Sofyan Amrabat though, he’s a player that has been so often linked with a Merseyside move that we perhaps should think that he is at very least on our radar.

If we are to make another signing then the Moroccan World Cup star seems to be one of the most likely to do so and if we can upset Manchester United at the same time – few of our supporters would be too opposed to that!

TRANSFERSManchester City monitoring RB Leipzig forward with release clause becoming active this summerPublished: 15:12 on February 16th 2024 | Last Updated: 15:12 on February 16th 2024By Freddie Pye
SHARETWEET
Manchester City are reportedly keeping an eye on the progress and development of RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Šeško, according to reports in Germany.

The 20-year-old is less than a year into his time with the Bundesliga club, having only joined officially on 1 July 2023 from partner side RB Salzburg on a five-year contract until 2028, for a reported transfer fee of around €24 million.

However, Šeško’s commendable goalscoring form and all-round game with the club could see Leipzig double their money on the striker by the time the summer transfer window arrives.

The Slovenian international forward has recorded a total of 10 goals across 28 appearances in all competitions so far this season, leaving his side 5th in the current Bundesliga rankings and challenging for a place in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals with Real Madrid.

Despite the status of Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez in the current Manchester City squad, alongside a number of other highly-talented names in a fluid attacking set-up, the Premier League champions have been linked with a tenuous interest in the Leipzig centre-forward.

That is according to the information of German newspaper BILD, as translated and relayed by Sport Witness, who report that the form of Benjamin Šeško has made him a ‘transfer hit’ and has seen top clubs, including Liverpool and Manchester City, watch him closely.

Alongside La Liga giants Barcelona, the Premier League title-challenging duo are claimed to be ‘keeping an eye’ on the 20-year-old forward, who can be snatched away from Leipzig this summer through the activation of a €50 million release clause in the summer.

Following a 0-1 defeat to Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League last-16 earlier this week, RB Leipzig sporting director Rouven Schröder was asked about any concern regarding the forward’s release clause to which he bluntly responded, “That’s not going through my head tonight.”

Manchester City are unlikely to see either of their striking mainstays depart the club in the upcoming summer transfer window, however it is not surprising to see officials from within the Etihad Stadium preparing for any market possibility.

Txiki Begiristain and his colleagues’ ability to allow players to depart should they show an interest in an exit is a compliment to Manchester City’s depth of knowledge on the global game, and their extensive portfolio of players they could turn to if needed.

Real Madrid in particular are likely to be maintained as potential suitors for Erling Haaland over the coming seasons, regardless of their seemingly inevitable move for France international Kylian Mbappe this summer.

Ange has no time for rumours linking him to Liverpool

Press Association

Tottenham’s Ange Postecoglou has given short shrift to rumours linking him with the Liverpool job. (AP PHOTO) Credit: AP

Ange Postecoglou says Tottenham are still a “long way” from playing the football he wants after he fended off talk he could leave at the end of the season to replace Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.

Klopp announced last month he would depart Anfield at the conclusion of the campaign following nine years at the club.

Liverpool have reportedly placed Postecoglou on a shortlist of candidates to replace the German, with Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso seemingly at the top of the pile, but Spurs’ Aussie boss insists his only focus is on finishing this season strongly.

“I may be on a shortlist? I don’t think I want to say anything about that because I don’t think that’s ever going to enter my brain space for what are my priorities in life and my profession right now,” Postecoglou said on the eve of Saturday’s visit of Wolves.

Asked if he felt he was getting started at Spurs, he said: “Well, I am, not just feel – I am. I’ve only been here seven months, so that’s self-explanatory.

“I’ve been at pains to say we’ve still got a long way to go in terms of the football we want to play, the team we want to be, the squad we want to have.

“We’ve had two positive windows, I think we’ve had a decent campaign so far, but we’ve got a long way to go.

“That’s the funny space when we talk about managers. When we’re not going well, then there’s questioning about whether we’re going to be here.

“When you’re potentially going okay, there’s still question about whether you’re going to be here. The reality of it is most of it is out of our hands.

“I’m never worried or thought about that. I’ve got a history of 26 years of management where you can see pretty clearly what I do.

“Right now it’s about finishing the season strong with Tottenham and making sure we’re trying to establish a really strong foundation for who we want to be in the years to come.

“That can only happen if I’m totally focused on what these last 14 games can bring for us.”

Asked if links to Liverpool were a compliment, Postecoglou added: “It depends. If it’s just people throwing up names, then who cares?

“It doesn’t matter, but at the end of the day, if I’m doing a good job then hopefully people will acknowledge that in one form or another – whatever that form is. But so-called ‘chat’, really? That’s of no interest to me.”

What Postecoglou has to deal with in the immediate future is being without both recognised full-backs for the visit of Wolves.

Pedro Porro suffered a muscle strain in training this week, while Destiny Udogie was forced off at the end of last weekend’s dramatic 2-1 win over Brighton with a minor issue.

Postecoglou is hopeful both will be back for Tottenham’s home fixture with Crystal Palace on March 2.

Liverpool handed huge boost ahead of Brentford clashFeatured Image
Date: 16th February 2024 at 3:08pm
Written by: Author
Liverpool can extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table to five points with victory over Brentford in Saturday’s early kick-off.

The Reds currently sit two points ahead of reigning champions Manchester City and Arsenal, but victory over the Bees would extend that advantage.

Last time out, the Merseyside outfit returned to winning ways against Burnley, having been beaten by the Gunners in their previous match.

Ahead of the game, Liverpool have been handed a huge boost.

Speaking in the build up to the match, manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed that talisman Mohamed Salah is back in contention to be involved against Brentford.

“Mo Salah is back in full training. He’s in contention, of course,” the German said, as reported by Fabrizio Romano.

Salah, 31, hasn’t featured for the Reds since scoring twice in a 4-2 win over Newcastle United on New Year’s Day and his return will be welcome for Klopp.

Salah suffered an injury whilst on international duty with Egypt

Initially Salah was on international duty with Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations, but he suffered an injury at the tournament in the Ivory Coast and has therefore had his return to club football delayed.

The Egyptian is firmly in the hunt for the Golden Boot award this season and will be keen to pick up where he left off against the Magpies.

Salah has scored 18 times already this season, netting 14 times in 20 top flight matches.

In total the forward has netted a remarkable 204 times in 332 games for Liverpool since joining the club from AS Roma in 2017.

In his absence, the likes of Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota have been tasked with spearheading the Reds’ attack, but Salah may well make an instant return to the Liverpool starting line-up on Saturday.

Liverpool and Manchester City in picture for 10-goal star – €50m clause will come into effect from summer

Liverpool and Manchester City are both keeping tabs on RB Leipzig star Benjamin Šeško.

The striker arrived at the Bundesliga side last summer and has impressed in his debut season, scoring 10 goals from 28 goals.

Bild state his form has made him a ‘transfer hit’ at Leipzig and has also seen top clubs, including Liverpool and Manchester City, watch him closely.

It’s claimed the Premier League duo, along with Barcelona, are ‘keeping an eye’ on the 20-year-old.

Liverpool and Manchester City in picture for 10-goal star – €50m clause will come into effect from summer
By Naveen Ullal -16th February 2024

Liverpool and Manchester City are both keeping tabs on RB Leipzig star Benjamin Šeško.

The striker arrived at the Bundesliga side last summer and has impressed in his debut season, scoring 10 goals from 28 goals.

Bild state his form has made him a ‘transfer hit’ at Leipzig and has also seen top clubs, including Liverpool and Manchester City, watch him closely.

It’s claimed the Premier League duo, along with Barcelona, are ‘keeping an eye’ on the 20-year-old.

Liverpool, Pep Guardiola’s side or any other club can take him away from the Bundesliga side by activating his €50m release clause in the summer.
This will come into effect after this season, a year after the frontman joined the club. This is unusual for Leipzig, but Bild state they wouldn’t have signed the Slovenia international without agreeing to this condition.

Earlier this week, the German club suffered a 1-0 defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League. After the tie, Leipzig sporting director Rouven Schröder was asked if he’s worried about a club activating Šeško’s clause.

“That’s not going through my head tonight,” he said.

Liverpool and Manchester City can therefore secure Šeško’s services for €50m in the summer, but we will have to wait and see whether they do, since they already both have established prolific strikers in Darwin Nuñez and Erling Haaland.

Liverpool now told they can hire ‘world class’ manager for £9m as talks take place

Liverpool could pinch Roberto De Zerbi from Brighton this summer by paying a release clause.

That is according to Sport in Spain.

So, what is the latest on Roberto De Zerbi as Liverpool show interest? Let’s take a look…

Liverpool can hire Roberto De Zerbi for £9m
Well – according to Sport – the Italian actually has a €10m (£9m) release clause written into his contract at Brighton, as well as an agreement that he cannot leave in the middle of a season.

The Seagulls are attempting to increase the amount of this clause up to €15m (£13m) by extending De Zerbi’s contract – which expires in July 2026 – to 2027.

However, Brighton have made little progress in negotiations over a renewal – with Liverpool considering the man from Brescia as a replacement for Jurgen Klopp.

Fabrizio Romano recently claimed that Liverpool have held internal talks at Anfield about hiring De Zerbi – who Levi Colwill called “world class” – after he made a name for himself as one of Europe’s most talented coaches.

The 44-year-old has overseen 23 wins from 56 Premier League games in charge of Brighton, while also guiding the Seagulls into the UEFA Europa League Round of 16.

Liverpool could hire Xabi Alonso for free
De Zerbi is not the only manager being considered by Liverpool.

A story by Foot Mercato in France claimed that the Reds have actually enquired about hiring Xabi Alonso.

Interestingly, Liverpool would not have to pay Bayer Leverkusen a penny if the Spaniard does end up replacing Klopp this summer, as there is no release clause in his contract with the Bundesliga outfit.

Gary Lineker says ‘superstar’ who’s exploring Liverpool move is better than Jude Bellingham

Kylian Mbappe’s future is the talk of the town at the moment.

The French attacker is reportedly set to leave PSG at the end of the season, and while a move to Real Madrid feels almost inevitable, there are some whsipers that a Premier League move could be on the cards.

Gary Lineker calls Kylian Mbappe the best player in the world
The pundit shared his verdict on the forward.

“Kylian Mbappe is a genuine superstar. He is extraordinary. If you are talking about the best players in the world, Bellingham and Vinicius Jr, but I think Mbappe is probably number one at the minute,” Lineker said.

Incredible
Lineker says that Mbappe is the best player in the world, and he’s not too far wrong.

Yes, he’s only ever played in France, but his performances at the Champions League level and at the World Cup show that he’s among the very best of the best.

Mbappe would be a statement addition not only to a team like Liverpool but to the Premier League as a whole, and no matter who you support, you have to admit it would be great to see Mbappe playing in England.

Jamie Carragher shares what Michael Edwards told him about Liverpool transfers which shocked him
Fri 16 February 2024 09:30
James Brooke
Liverpool are still yet to truly replace the fabled Michael Edwards as sporting director.

Edwards spent over a decade at the club, leaving in 2022, and was widely regarded as the mastermind behind some of Liverpool’s best transfers of recent times. Two years on from his departure, the Reds are once again searching for a new man to fill his role.

During his time at the helm, Edwards barely seemed to miss for Liverpool in the transfer market. So, as a result, Reds legend Jamie Carragher told the Stick To Football podcast that he once went to meet the analyst to see what all the fuss was about.

“People talk about Liverpool’s recruitment and Michael Edwards is always famed for what he did alongside Jurgen Klopp and people at the club,” Carragher says. “So I went to see him once, because I wanted a bit more information, it wasn’t for me to come out and speak but this is years later. I was expecting some real big insight into how many scouts they have, how they watch them, how they see different things.

“He just said the biggest thing for us about getting the players we want is relationships with agents. I was expecting more than that! But he was just saying it’s massive basically.

“You see about agent fees every year, and I’m not saying it’s just about the money, but he was talking about having good relationships with their agents.”

Edwards reveals Reds secrets
This is a really interesting insight from Carragher, as the Liverpool legend often provides.

It is a little surprising to hear that Edwards credits a lot of his successes at Anfield down to relationships with agents. It did always feel as though there was much more to it than that. But maybe it shouldn’t be such a shock – Carra has actually mentioned this point before.

MORE LIVERPOOL STORIES
Of course, that doesn’t mean Liverpool’s recruitment was one-paced. They also employed an advanced data collecting model to seek who would fit into Jurgen Klopp’s system the best.

Edwards was one of the very first on the scene where analytics in football are concerned and you could see that in the Reds’ recruitment over the years.

But you can’t simply rely on data analysis alone to bring in the players that you need. As in any business, relationships are always going to be key.

In this day and age where agents are so influential to players, it makes sense to get on the right side of them.

If an agent is advising their client on where to sign and they have a good relationship with one club and a poor or indifferent relationship with the other, where do you think he or she will suggest to join?

Often, that can be the difference between a player signing and not signing. When you’ve gathered all the hard data and narrowed down your scouting, why would you let a thing like that stop you from getting things over the line. This is just smart work from a smart man. How we miss Edwards.

Liverpool’s hopes of landing Ange Postecoglou as a potential Jurgen Klopp successor appear quite slim.

Football Insider reports that the Australian is quite comfortable in his role as Tottenham’s head coach. Likewise, Spurs ‘would not entertain any big-money compensation’ for the 56-year-old.

The former Celtic head coach has guided the club to fourth in the Premier League table thus far, earning praise from his Anfield counterpart.

“Spurs doing well, Ange seems a top bloke, looking forward to meeting him. I think [fans] were all desperate for offensive football, he’s doing it,” the 56-year-old spoke ahead of their first meeting in the league (yahoo!news).

“Everyone knew when they saw Celtic play in recent years, what kind of coach he is.

“Tottenham fans were all desperate for offensive football and in a year when Harry Kane has left, he has done extremely well and it will be a real test for both of us.”

Where on the shortlist?
There’s no question that Postecoglou may be a little underrated as a manager, with many questioning his initial appointment at Tottenham.

The newfound belief in the fanbase and the attractive style of football (without compromising on points), however, can’t be sniffed at.

Still, we’d be surprised if the coach’s name was higher up on the list than younger candidates across Europe.

Sporting’s Ruben Amorim and Bayer Lekerkusen’s Xabi Alonso, for instance, will likely be considered more appropriate options.

One can be removed from the list – Alonso. If Madrid want a new manager in 2025/26 season then I believe he would prefer a move to a Spain above LFC. As things stand he now has opportunity to use Leverkusen for CL experience during the 2024/25 season which would then fit neatly into the change to Madrid.
I really can’t see him coming to LFC.

Both devout Muslims, Salah met his wife Magi during their time at school, when the pair lived in the Egyptian village of Basion Gharbia – where Salah returns every Ramadan to share his wealth with the community.

As the wife of a football star, Magi has been previously been spotted supporting her husband from the stands at Liverpool, following his move to Merseyside in 2017.

Aside from this information, not much else is know about Mo Salah’s wife, with the couple preferring to keep their private life out of the spotlight.

However, in 2019, Magi, who rarely appears on her Salah’s social media accounts, was pictured alongside her husband – sharing a rare glimpse into the family’s private life.

After a thumping 3-1 victory over Burnley, Liverpool are all set to battle Brentford in an away fixture in the Premier League on Saturday. They would like to continue the momentum and drop no points as the race to the league title intensifies.

With 54 points in 24 games, the Reds are sitting at the top of the points table. However, arch-rivals Manchester City are just two points off them with a game in hand. Hence, Jürgen Klopp‘s men will aim to secure all three points and leave no room for other teams to climb up.

Regular starter Alisson Becker will come in for Caoimhin Kelleher and once again line up in goal after missing the last game due to illness. Trent Alexander-Arnold will miss the tie due to a knee injury and Conor Bradley is expected to replace him.

Ibrahima Konate will be available for the clash after suspension and will pair up with Virgil van Dijk at the centre-back. Andy Robertson will continue his operations in the left-back position.

Midfield

The trio of Alexis Mac Allister, Wataru Endo, and Curtis Jones will continue to operate in the midfield as Dominik Szoboszlai and Thiago Alcantara will miss the contest due to injuries.

While Endo and Jones had decent outings against Burnley, Mac Allister wasn’t up to the mark. Hence, he should step up at the Gtech Community Stadium and help his side register a vital victory.

Attack

Earlier this week, The Reds received a moral boost when Mohamed Salah joined the training session after recovering from a hamstring injury. However, boss Jürgen Klopp will prefer the attacking trio of Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez, who have been impressive. Salah can come from the bench in the second half to get some game time.
