Bayern Munich midfielder Ryan Gravenberch appears to be edging closer to an exit from the club amid interest from Liverpool.

That’s according to a report from SoccerNews.nl, relaying information from journalist Kerry Hau.

Liverpool look set to make efforts to improve their midfield options this season.

Jurgen Klopp allowed several players who normally fill that role to move on this summer, including Naby Keita and James Milner.

There’s a host of youngsters at the club who have done a good job when called upon.

Curtis Jones impressed towards the end of the season, while Stefan Bajcetic did brilliantly before picking up an injury.

However, more players are needed and new sporting director Jorg Schamdtke needs to get to work immediately.

Ryan Gravenberch has been identified as an option for Liverpool given his possible exit from Bayern Munich.

He’s high on Schmadtke’s list of targets and could be available given his lack of minutes in Germany.

It looks like it might be up to Thomas Tuchel to decide his future.

Liverpool target Gravenberch nearing Bayern exit

The report from SoccerNews suggests that the young Dutchman’s movements this summer will depend on Tuchel.

He needs to explain what role Gravenberch will have in the side and ‘outline a clear plan and offer perspective to the Dutchman’.

If Bayern can’t offer Gravenberch this, then his departure will be ‘almost inevitable’.

The ‘complete’ midfielder has bags of potential but not many opportunities to showcase it in Germany.

He was one of the best players in the Netherlands last year and deservedly earned his big move elsewhere.

However, he chose a side with some of the strongest midfield options in the world and has had to settle for most of his minutes coming off the bench.

The £44m-rated 21-year-old would be an exciting addition for Jurgen Klopp.

Although Gravenberch won’t offer Liverpool too much experience, his exit from Bayern could benefit them in the long run.

Alongside Jones, Bajcetic and Harvey Elliott, the Reds could have their midfield options locked in for the next decade.

Jamie Carragher tells Jürgen Klopp to’move on’Liverpool star as transfer need becomes clear

A Liverpool great has highlighted an area of Jürgen Klopp’s squad that requires strengthening this summer, revealing that he would potentially sell one mainstay to make way.

Following a disappointing season for the Reds, it is clear that wholesale changes will likely be required at Anfield in the coming months to arrest the slide.

Following a tactical switch during the final two months of the season, it could well be that fresh additions are required in order to ensure that this formation change can persist into the next campaign.

One hole in Liverpool’s current squad is the lack of a left-footed center-back and it is likely that the club’s recruitment staff have identified this as a problem that needs addressing.

According to Reds legend turned pundit Jamie Carragher, if the opportunity arises, it may be time to sell Joël Matip, with the Cameroonian defender’s current contract entering its final year.

He also contends that a left-sided center-back could be an astute addition to the squad to add more protection, given Trent Alexander-Arnold’s new hybrid ‘inverted full-back’ role in the side.

Andy Robertson has effectively played in an adapted role of his own in recent months to accommodate for the homegrown star’s forays forward but it could well be that Klopp opts to bring in a more traditional left-sided defender to improve the balance of the team.

Speaking to Redmen Plus, Carragher said: “I look at the defense and I think Joël Matip now has got a year to go. If you got £10m, whatever the price may be, it’s probably right to move on.

“I do think we need a left-sided defender, a left-footed center-back. A lot of teams have them, we don’t.

“A left-sided player would add something. Rather than getting a left-back because I don’t think we will, if we are going to continue with this formation now, (we should be) buying someone in that area, a center-back who can do the full-back role.

“I definitely think a left-sided center-back who can do that left-back job.”

Liverpool.com says: It is hard to disagree with Carragher on this one as signing a left-sided center-back would certainly bring that bit more balance to this Liverpool side when they are out of possession.

One can still see a situation where Robertson plays against sides that utilize a low block and are difficult to break down, but signing a more traditional left-sided center-back might just provide a bit more defensive protection against teams that are good on the counter-attack.
