REPORT: ASTON VILLA HAS SIGNED NEWCASTLE LONG TIME TARGET

Unai Emery’s Aston Villa are reportedly keen signing James Maddison ahead of Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur.

Italian journalist Rudy Galetti has reported on Twitter that Aston Villa are in the race for Leicester City attacking midfielder James Maddison.

Newcastle United are in talks with Leicester over a potential move for the England international playmaker, according to the reporter.

Galetti has added that Tottenham Hotspur are also keen on the 26-year-old Englishman.

The journalist wrote on Twitter (11:56am, June 9, 2023): “#Maddison, #Newcastle are still in talks with #Leicester for the MD and they’re working for him since Jan.

“Also #Tottenham – that may decide to take some concrete steps soon – and #AstonVilla in the race.

“After relegation to Championship, James wants to leave.”

Could Aston Villa sign James Maddison from Leicester City?
In our view, Aston Villa could find it tough to sign James Maddison from Leicester City ahead of Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United.

Yes, Villa are a big and established club in the Premier League who are going places under former Arsenal manager Unai Emery.

However, Tottenham are a massive club who regularly challenge for the Premier League top four.

And Newcastle will play in the UEFA Champions League next season and have grand plans under Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) for the future.

We believe that Maddison would pick Newcastle or Tottenham over Villa, although it remains to be seen which club are willing to offer more transfer fees for the playmaker, described as as “an incredible player” by Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola in The Manchester Evening News in June 2019.

Aston Villa would find it difficult to sign Atlético Madrid forward João Félix, believes Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor.

The 23-year-old, who spent the second half of the season on loan at Chelsea, is being linked with a move to Villa Park, but Taylor says the numbers involved are too high.

Aston Villa transfer news — João Félix

Football Insider recently claimed that Félix has been offered to Villa and several other Premier League clubs.

The Portuguese attacker looks to be available after Chelsea made the decision not to sign him permanently.

“Yesterday, we had the news that the new Chelsea manager [Mauricio Pochettino] does not [want] João Félix,” Atletico president Enrique Cerezo told AS last month.

The Spanish club look unwilling to sell Félix on the cheap, though, with the Evening Standard reporting back in February that he could cost up to £80m.

What has Ryan Taylor said about João Félix and Aston Villa?

Taylor thinks Félix is an unrealistic target for Villa this summer.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the Daily Express journalist said: “The difficulty for Villa if they did want to sign Félix is that there’d be massive numbers involved, so I don’t see that as a realistic signing.”

How did João Félix perform in the Premier League this season?

Félix showed glimpses of his quality. In total, he scored four goals in 16 appearances for Chelsea, as per TransferNmarkt.

Even on his debut where he was sent off, the Portugal international managed to display some attacking threat.

According to Who Scored, Félix had four shots on target in his side’s 2-1 defeat to Fulham at Craven Cottage — no one in the game had more. He also completed two dribbles, more than any other player on the pitch, before picking up his red card.

However, the above is surely not enough for Villa to go spend £80m on the former Benfica man, especially when they’re targeting other high-profile players who are also likely to cost a lot of money.

Last month, The Telegraph reported that the Villans were plotting ambitious moves for Juventus’ Dušan Vlahović and Barcelona’s Ferran Torres.

Since then, Football Insider has also claimed that the Midlands club are trying to sign Villarreal defender Pau Torres.

With that in mind, then, it’s hard to imagine Villa going out and forking £80m on Félix, who didn’t justify that price tag during his loan spell at Chelsea. Is he a bad player? Far from it, but he hasn’t exactly looked like an £80m footballer this season.

Aston Villa Are Leading The Race For This Gifted Winger: What Will He Add To Emery’s Team?

In a recent print edition, O Jogo stated that Aston Villa are leading the race for Sporting winger Pedro Goncalves this summer. It has been revealed that the Villans are in pole position to land the Portuguese wide player in this off-season.

Goncalves’ Impressive Form In Portuguese Football

Goncalves has experienced a brilliant campaign at Sporting as he has produced a handful of eye-catching performances on the left side of their attack. The Portuguese talent has found the back of the net on 20 occasions and secured 15 assists in 51 appearances for his current employers this season across various competitions.

The Chaves-born sensation has been a reliable performer at the Estádio José Alvalade as he is averaging 3.2 shots, 2.2 key passes, 1.1 crosses and 1.3 dribbles per 90 minutes in Liga Portugal. He has even been tidy when interchanging possession with his teammates as evidenced by his pass success rate of 81.3% in the Portuguese first division (stats via who scored).

Goncalves’ current contract at Sporting will expire in the summer of 2026. Thus, Aston Villa will have to launch a convincing offer for him if they want to convince Sporting to sell their prized asset.

What Will Goncalves Add To Aston Villa Boss Unai Emery’s Team?

Goncalves is proficient at engineering space for himself to get some strikes in on-target. He has also got the eye to unlock the opponent’s defence with a killer pass in the final third. Goncalves mainly functions as a winger on the left flank but can also fill in as a right-sided wide player or play in the number ten position if told to do so.

The Portuguese wing wizard is a good dribbler with the ball as well which makes him a decent fit for Unai Emery’s brand of football at Villa Park.

We can expect Goncalves to inject more quality into Aston Villa‘s first XI and help the Villans push for a top-half finish in the Premier League next season.

Goncalves will add more goals and creativity to Emery’s defence. At 24, he has his peak years ahead of him. Hence, the Sporting wide player will be a great choice for the West Midlands club to consider during this summer transfer window.
