Mohamed Salah agent spot on this time as Liverpool knows truth of latest Ramy Abbas claim

When Mohamed Salah struck his 30th goal of season for Liverpool against Brentford on Saturday, he did more than just hit another key milestone for the campaign.

The Egyptian’s 13th-minute notch — the only goal of the game — was his 100th goal for the Reds at Anfield. It also set a new record, as he became the first player to score in nine consecutive matches at the famous old ground.

It also moved him on to 186 career goals with the Reds, pulling him level in the club’s all-time list with fifth-placed Steven Gerrard. You wouldn’t bet against Salah moving ahead of the inspirational former captain when Liverpool take on Leicester City a week on Monday, such is his current form.

Salah’s recent achievements have raised the question of just where the number 11 ranks in Liverpool’s illustrious history of decorated strikers. His own agent is in no doubt whatsoever.

Taking to social media, Ramy Abbas Issa Tweeted: “Just because a footballer retired years or decades ago, doesn’t mean we should be scared to admit he’s not as good as someone playing today. Aside from that, succeeding as a footballer today is a lot harder than it used to be. There’s much more competition.”

The agent’s somewhat cryptic message could well have been in response to Jamie Carragher’s emphatic praise of Salah, in the wake of hitting the 30-goal mark yet again.

Speaking on Sky Sports, former Liverpool defender Carragher said: “I think when Mo Salah eventually stops playing for the club, I think he goes right in there in terms of the top players to have ever played for the team. I think he goes in an all-time Liverpool eleven and you could argue he is in the top five or six players to have ever played for the club.”

Looking at Salah’s statistics, it is hard to disagree. Writer Andrew Beasley illustrated the winger’s remarkable contribution in a table on Twitter that placed him in a list of 15 of the greatest players ever to have played in the Premier League; only Thierry Henry had a greater goals and assists average than Salah, who is currently joint-second on the list with Sergio Augero, at a rate of 0.84 per game.

Salah will once again comfortably finish the season as Liverpool’s top goal scorer. As part of the Reds’ successful attacking trio under Jürgen Klopp, alongside Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mané, it is the Egyptian who has outlasted the other two and will remain relevant in the German’s new-look squad next season as he has in the first incarnation.

Abbas has been a controversial figure at times, not least when a big-money new contract was being negotiated, but Salah’s agent is spot on this time.

Liverpool.com says: It’s crazy to think that earlier in the season, Salah’s own form was being questioned after a slow start to the campaign — by his standards at least . But 30 goals and 11 assists later, all of that is forgotten. Salah’s numbers speak for himself. He is already one of Liverpool’s all time greats and there is still more to come.

Liverpool legend’s tweet about Erik ten Hag goes viral after Man Utd lose 1-0 to West Ham

Carragher’s tweet about Ten Hag has received plenty of attention

Jamie Carragher was busy on Twitter immediately after Manchester United’s 1-0 defeat at West Ham on Sunday night.

Man Utd produced a poor performance at the London Stadium and now have rivals Liverpool breathing firmly down their necks in the race for the top four.

A calamitous error from David de Gea allowed Said Benrahma to score the only goal of the game midway through the first half.

West Ham, 15th in the table, were the better team for most of the game and thoroughly deserved to secure all three points.

As soon as referee Peter Bankes blew the full-time whistle, Liverpool legend Carragher posted the following tweet:

Liverpool appeared to have virtually no hope of securing qualification for next season’s Champions League a couple of months ago, but a run of six straight wins means they now sit just one point behind Erik ten Hag’s side.

What did Carragher tweet about Erik ten Hag?

Former Man Utd captain Gary Neville pinned the blame on Glazers after the game, tweeting: “United so poor in this game. [Ten Hag] seeing more of the players in these situations is a positive. Allows him to sort out who he wants on the bus.

“The real disgrace are the Glazers. Are they waiting for the last game at OT to pass??? It would be typical of them. Weak and shirking accountability and responsibility to the end! Members of staff on and off the pitch are in an uncertain position waiting for new owners! Let alone recruitment and what budget their is going to be! This should have been done! Classless to the end!”

However, Neville’s Sky Sports colleague Carragher fired back with a tweet about Ten Hag that quickly went viral.

He tweeted: “Yeah the Glazers decided to play Weghorst as a 10, spend 90M on Antony & 70M on Casemiro (31) on a 5 yr deal!!”

Neville replied: “Come on know your subject. They told ETH (when he needed a striker with CR7 going) he couldn’t spend any money. They sanctioned those other two deals after Brentford 4-0 to save their backsides as they were under pressure. They sign the cheques and take responsibility for everything post SAF! They’re a shambles!”

Who are Man Utd’s remaining fixtures against?

Man Utd, who have a game in hand over Liverpool, end their league season with games against Wolves, Bournemouth, Chelsea, and Fulham.
