Liverpool have made three ‘critical summer’ decisions since withdrawing from Jude Bellingham transfer race
Blood Red: Liverpool’s long-term planning for next season has now given them something to chase in the closing stages of this one
At some point during the March international break, there was seemingly a line drawn in the sand on this season by Jurgen Klopp and his staff.
While the majority of his players were away with their respective national teams, Klopp shunned the chance for a full week off, one he normally takes when the going is good, and instead got to work on plotting a way back.
Asked if he had used the break in play to make some notable in-roads on plans for next season with regards to recruitment, Klopp said; “That is the only thing we do in the international break, apart from have a few days off. The player side [was] positive, I would say. But [it was] talks not decisions – but we are busy.”
At the time, the Reds were sixth in the Premier League and had just been beaten 1-0 by a Bournemouth side who were bottom of the table in their most recent outing. A place in the top four seemed like a pipedream and the rhetoric around the AXA Centre seemed to be about a club whose gaze had been now widened towards what could be achieved next season instead

With Southampton soon to be officially relegated, all West Ham eyes are on two big games this weekend.

Leeds vs Newcastle and Liverpool vs Leicester are extremely significant matches when it comes to sealing West Ham’s survival.
Given the massive 13-goal gulf in goal difference between West Ham and Leeds, Sam Allardyce’s side needed to win their last three games to overhaul the Hammers.
Leicester would need at least two wins and a draw and hope to make up ground on West Ham’s goal difference to have a chance of leapfrogging Moyes’s side.
West Ham play both Leeds and Leicester in the final two fixtures of the campaign.
But West Ham are safe if Liverpool beat Leicester as fireman Sam fights to extinguish the relegation flames at Leeds.

Defeat to Man City and a 2-2 draw with Newcastle means Leeds still have a chance of survival but – realistically – not at West Ham’s expense.
So if rejuvenated Liverpool see off Leicester at Anfield under the lights on Monday night – as expected – then West Ham are safe.
It would now take Leeds to beat West Ham and Tottenham by five or six goals and the Hammers to lose their last three games for the Elland Road outfit to have any chance of finishing above them.
Should West Ham get a point at Brentford and Liverpool do Moyes a big favour by beating the Foxes, then West Ham’s Premier League safety will be officially confirmed at Anfield on Monday night.
Even if West Ham lose to Brentford and Liverpool beat Leicester then the Hammers will officially seal survival if they avoid defeat to Leeds at the London Stadium next weekend.
But let’s have it right, it’s done.
