Jurgen Klopp makes Man Utd & Newcastle prediction following Liverpool’s six-game winning run

The Liverpool manager has given his verdict on the top-four race ahead of this weekend’s games.

Jurgen Klopp has said it is unlikely that Liverpool will qualify for the Champions League next season, implying Manchester United and Newcastle United will beat his side to a top-four finish.

The Magpies are third ahead of this weekend’s fixtures, with United and Liverpool vying for fourth spot, although the latter have played one game fewer. Defeats in United’s last two matches to Brighton & Hove Albion and West Ham United have dented their top-four hopes, especially with Liverpool winning six league games in a row.

Despite that, Klopp said ahead of Monday’s match against Leicester City that he does not think his side will sneak into the final Champions League spot. “We played a really bad season, I think everyone in this room agrees – and now we have 62 points,” claimed the German in Friday’s press conference.

“It’s strange, there is still quality in the boys, in us. I am really happy we could show up, and where we will end up, it’s not about that. I know everyone wants to go to the Champions League but it’s not about that – 100% I want, but it’s just not really likely.

“That’s the situation we created, but to show up and show again that we are able to do special things, I’m really happy about. Winning six games in a row is great and if it was easy we would have done it much more often. Adding the seventh is even more difficult and then eight, nine, really difficult. It’s football and the other teams prepare for the game as well.

“This part of the season gave us a clear sign that we are still there,” Klopp added. “Not everything is bad around us. We had a bad season, but let’s see what we can make of it.”

Euro Paper Talk: Klopp turns to £35m Bundesliga midfielder to fill pivotal role; Chelsea,…

Liverpool have renewed their interest in a Bundesliga midfielder who could be available for £35million this summer, while Friday’s Euro Paper Talk claims Chelsea and Tottenham have both been shown the door in their chase for a top Serie A goalkeeper.

LIVERPOOL RENEW INTEREST IN GERMANY MIDFIELDER

Liverpool are once again being tipped to make a move for Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Florian Neuhaus this summer.

The Reds are well known top be in the market for new midfielders as they prepare for the exits of James Milner, Arthur Melo and potential free agents Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita.

Indeed, there is a feeling that Jurgen Klopp has never really replaced the box-to-box qualities of Gini Wijnaldum in his engine room.

And now a fresh report has indicated that Neuhaus, who is a similar player to the Dutchman, could become the first German to move to Anfield since Loris Karius.

The 26-year-old Monchengladbach regular has scored twice in 22 games in all competitions this season, but with his contract running out next summer, Neuhaus could be available for a reasonable fee.

The report adds that Neuhaus has the adaptability to play any midfield role for Klopp, as Wijnaldum did at times under the Anfield chief.

The player’s injury record is a slight cause for concern, although it’s not thought that will factor in Liverpool’s thinking.

Neuhaus primed for Premier League move

Neuhaus has played almost 200 league games in Germany and is considered the right age to try his luck in a different league.

A fee of around £35million is being mooted for the Germany international, although a transfer could depend on the Reds finishing in the Champions League spots.

Liverpool have, at least, found their form at the perfect time of the season and only sit a point behind fourth-placed Manchester United in the Premier League table.

Adding a player of Neuhaus’ quality would certainly give them a more balanced midfield, it just remains for Anfield transfer chiefs to try and get a deal over the line.
