‘I like him’: Agbonlahor backs Liverpool to secure £75m star, but sends Newcastle warning

Gabby Agbonlahor has reacted to a Liverpool supporter wanting his team to sign Inter star Nicolo Barella, but warned the club that they ‘need to spend’ in the transfer market because of teams like Newcastle United.

After Liverpool’s 1-1 draw against Aston Villa on Saturday, it now means that if Newcastle United and Manchester United secure one point from their final two games of the season, then it’s Europa League football for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool – Ashley Young was keen to have a pop back after previous claims.

Former Aston Villa striker, Agbonlahor, stated that the Reds ‘need to spend’ and when Nicolo Barella’s name was put forward, he added ‘I like him’, as he told talkSPORT.

A big summer awaits, not just those on Merseyside, but Eddie Howe’s Newcastle as well because everyone knows they can splash the cash, but now they can lure those top players because they should have Champions League football.

Of course, that doesn’t mean Liverpool can’t lure the top stars because of the squad that they have, the lure of Klopp and the club itself.

But Agbonlahor thinks it’s paramount that they take action, or else he warned that they could ‘easily get overtaken’ by clubs like Newcastle.

“I do agree that Liverpool need to spend,” said Agbonlahor. “You could easily get overtaken. Newcastle will not mess about during this transfer window coming up. They will strengthen. They will be even better next season.

On Liverpool should go for Barella: “I like him.” added Agbonlahor.

It’s pretty clear that there is going to be a midfield makeover at Liverpool and Inter’s £75 million-rated star, Barella, has been linked.

That attacking bite, aggression in midfield and just fresh talent is needed because, whilst the team is going to end the season strongly, they have had far too many issues this season.

But could someone like Alexis Mac Allister, who has guided Brighton to Europa League football, join them? The suggestion is that he has said ‘yes’ to the Reds.
