French midfielder comments on Liverpool transfer links

OGC Nice midfielder, Khephren Thuram has insisted that he is happy at his current club amidst summer transfer links from Liverpool.

As per 90min, Liverpool are eyeing a swoop for the French midfield duo of Manu Kone and Khephren Thuram. While the former has been reported to be wanting to leave his current club, the latter has, however, said that he still ‘sees himself at Nice.’

Meanwhile, other reports suggest that the Reds are leading the race for the 22-year-old directly talking to the player’s agent.

It is no secret that the Reds are in the market for midfielders after a poor season, which has seen them only qualify for Europa League. However, the Merseysiders are not in luck yet in the transfer market.

They are keeping tabs on Mount, Gravenberch, Neves, Sangare, and Koopmeiners amongst a few others. With the likes of Kone and Thuram being the latest additions, the Reds are hopeful of securing the young midfield duo.

Thuram has been in the news following his outstanding season at Nice. Like any other youngster after a good performing season, the 22-year-old is linked to a number of clubs.

The French international is linked to the likes of Real Madrid, Man City, Dortmund, PSG and Liverpool. Meanwhile, there are reports that suggest that Liverpool are leading the race to sign the midfielder. However, the former Monaco man hinted that he would be staying at Nice next season.

Speaking at the UNFP award ceremony this week, Thuram commented on the rumours surrounding his future at Ligue 1 club Nice.

“I want to progress, go on the field, have fun. For now, I’m in Nice. It’s going very well. I really like the club, so I still see myself in Nice. I am very well in Nice.

There are noises, I hear, but I’m happy in Nice. I hope to grow with this club. I would like him [Didier Digard, manager] to stay because he brought a lot to this group when it was in a difficult period.

I don’t know if I tell him enough but he’s someone I can never thank enough. He helped me a lot in difficult times in my young career. We worked a lot together. I wish him only happiness, in Nice, or elsewhere.”

Would the Frenchman be a good signing for the Reds?

The son of the legendary Lilian Thuram has enjoyed a brilliant 2022/23 campaign. He made the Ligue 1 team of the season and earned his first Les Bleus senior cap. These were, however the results of his all-action performances at the heart of the Nice midfield.

Thuram has 35 appearances this season scoring twice and assisting 4 times. Moreover, he has a successful passing percent of 86.9 and his performances in the middle of the park have earned him a lot of plaudits.

The midfielder would surely fit into Klopp’s team and with his creativity and superb gameplay, there is no doubt that he would be starting week in, week-out.

However, now it is to be seen whether the Reds could pursue the midfielder and bring him to Anfield.

Alexis Mac Allister speaks on Liverpool rumours – “If a good offer arrives…”

In an interview conducted during his post-season holiday, Alexis Mac Allister was directly asked about reports claiming he will join Liverpool.

The midfielder was, unsurprisingly, diplomatic in his response.

Mac Allister spoke with Argentine outlet Infobae in Miami this week, with journalist Federico Roman presenting him with claims from TyC Sports that he is “one step away” from a move to Anfield.

“I am very calm, because I also have the possibility of [staying at] a club like Brighton, [who stayed with me] at all times and in which I really enjoy being,” he replied.

“If I do not have to leave the club I will continue to be very happy there.

“But I am aware that there are possibilities, and if a good offer arrives for the club and for me we will evaluate it.”

When later asked about his experience in the Premier League, however, Mac Allister admitted his “next club” would also be in England.

“I have no doubt that today it’s the best league to play in and that is why I am aware that I would like my next club to be in the Premier League,” he said.

“I really enjoy being there and the truth is that people have always treated me [well] in the country, and that is very important to me.”

Liverpool are believed to be closing on a deal for Mac Allister that would be in the region of £60 million, with the player said to have agreed a five-year contract worth £100,000 a week.

It is unclear how close the deal is to going through, particularly as the player is currently on holiday after a long season that saw him secure Europa League football for Brighton and win the World Cup with Argentina.

But negotiations are being led by the 24-year-old’s father, Carlos Mac Allister, with TyC Sports journalist German Garcia Grova claiming talks over the “last details” have taken place this week.

There should be no surprise that Mac Allister is taking a careful stance when faced with questions over his future, as he clearly has a strong affection for Brighton.

However, as he said, a “good offer” would open the door for a move from the AMEX, with the south-coast club seemingly resigned to losing him.
