END DEAL CONTRACT DESTROYED  Tottenham man announces that he is leaving the club (AGREED)

Yaya Toure has announced on Twitter that he will be leaving his role at Tottenham Hotspur to become the new assistant coach at Standard Liege.

The former Manchester City star called time on a glittering playing career back in 2020 with a number of accolades to his name.

Toure has since moved into the coaching side of the game and appears to have a bright future ahead of him as a manager one day.

The Ivorian spent time at Tottenham Hotspur while acquiring his coaching badges last season. He then decided to stay on in North London as the Under-16s coach.

However, Yaya Toure has always wanted to work his way up the footballing ladder. He turned down an offer to become the Wigan manager last year (Mike Minay).

More recently, Toure admitted he was looking for a ‘new challenge’ despite enjoying his time with Spurs (The Times).

Yaya Toure takes on new role in Belgium
It was first revealed by journalist Sacha Tavolieri that Toure had been offered a role with Belgian side Standard Liege, and now that offer has been accepted and the 40-year-old will leave Tottenham.

Toure tweeted: “I am delighted to share that I will be taking on the role of Assistant Coach at Standard Liege. It’s an honour to join the club and I am looking forward to working with Head Coach, Carl Hoefkens! Let’s do this.”

On his time at Spurs, Toure added: “I would like to thank everyone at the Tottenham Hotspur academy for their support in the 18 months I spent with the club. A special media to Dean Rastrick, Chris Powell and all the young players. Thank you.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It is a real shame to lose such a promising coach and a man who has a wealth of experience and knowledge to offer, but we were always going to have to say goodbye to Yaya Toure at some point as he is clearly set for the very top as a manager.

Chelsea just made a ‘mega’ offer to sign ‘exceptional’ youngster before Tottenham agreed deal

Chelsea made a late attempt to sign Tottenham wonderkid Mikey Moore before Spurs eventually agreed a deal with the youngster.

What’s the story?

Well, Chelsea have been focused on signing the best young talent across Europe since Todd Boehly arrived at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues have already snapped up gems such as Kendry Paez, Cesare Casadei and Carney Chukwuemeka for huge fees.

Now – as detailed by the Mirror – a move was made to pinch Moore from Tottenham.

It is said that Chelsea sent the 15-year-old a ‘mega’ contract offer with his terms at Spurs expiring at the end of June, while Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan were also monitoring the teenager.

Eventually, Moore – who The Athletic have described as an ‘exceptional talent’ – ended up signing a new contract at Tottenham running until June 2025, after being promised first-team football within two years.

Daniel Levy – Chairman of Spurs – even had to personally get involved in Tottenham’s attempts to keep the England Under-16 international after Chelsea made an offer.

Mikey Moore situation should encourage Chelsea fans

While Tottenham managed to keep Moore away from Chelsea on this occasion, it should encourage supporters to see Boehly and his team be so alert to potential opportunities such as this.

Moore has the potential to become one of the best footballers in England, and if Chelsea managed to sign him on a free transfer at this early stage of his career, it would have gone down as a shrewd bit of business.

Unfortunately, it was not to be on this occasion, but nobody can deny that Chelsea are well and truly on their toes when it comes to snapping up the best young talent on the planet.
