‘Almost done’: Liverpool close to bringing key man to Anfield, his wife has said yes – journalist

Liverpool are reportedly closing in on the hiring of Jorg Schmadtke, with the German sporting director set to oversee Jurgen Klopp’s summer rebuild.

According to Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, the former VfL Wolfsburg official is yet to sign his contract with the Anfield side though terms are all-but agreed, with Schmadtke’s wife even giving the green light on the move to happen in the coming weeks.

News #Schmadtke: It’s almost done but NOT signed yet. But the former Wolfsburg boss will become the new transfer boss of #LFC. Mainly focused on the German market. Top relation between him and Klopp for years.

The former Bundesliga transfer chief is a close friend of Klopp’s and is expected to play a key role in Liverpool’s summer business, with Schmadtke set to monitor the German market and to identify targets from the country that could be of interest for the Reds.

With the summer window just a few weeks away from opening, Liverpool want Schmadtke to be signed as an employee sooner rather than later, yet this latest update seems to confirm that the Anfield side breaking the news could only be a matter of time.

Schmadtke has earned quite the reputation for himself in his native Germany, and whilst the sporting director won’t be spending too long at Anfield with Liverpool, the work made alongside Klopp could define the Reds for many years to come.

Most fans recognise just big this transfer window is for Liverpool, and with Klopp now securing the services of a sporting director he trusts in Schmadtke, the pair could lay down the foundations for the Merseyside giants to thrive once again in the Premier League and in Europe.
