Firmino thanks team-mates for celebration during Anfield party
Roberto Firmino has thanked his Liverpool team-mates for the “unforgettable” send-off he was awarded during an end-of-season celebration at Anfield on Sunday.
The Brazilian is one of four players who will leave the club at the end of June once their contracts expire, with James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita also drawing the curtain on their careers on Merseyside.
And to celebrate the Liverpool careers of the soon-to-be departees, who have won every top-level honour since making their respective moves to Merseyside, the Reds hosted a farewell reception at Anfield on Sunday afternoon less than 24 hours after Firmino marked his final appearance on home soil with a last-gasp equaliser against Aston Villa in the Premier League.
Reds linked with Wolfsburg defender
Liverpool could make a summer swoop for Wolfsburg defender Micky van de Ven, according to a new report.
The i claim soon-to-be sporting director Jorg Schmadtke could look to lure the defender from his former club to Anfield this summer as he prepares to help Jurgen Klopp revamp his Liverpool side. The 59-year-old is, the ECHO understands, due to fly to England this week to iron out the final details of a three-month contract at Anfield, where he will be tasked with succeeding the outgoing Julian Ward.
And due to his previous ties at Wolfsburg, where he served as the sporting director before leaving in February, the Reds could make a move for Van de Ven this summer.
The report in the i, adds: “The 22-year-old centre-back is one of the division’s most sought-after defenders and sources close to the player have indicated that Liverpool are one of the clubs who have been tracking him”.
