Stefan Ortega says Man City have someone who is ‘unbelievable’ at finishing – it’s not Haaland

Stefan Ortega has said that Manchester City have someone who is so good at finishing.

The Citizens have scored 76 goals in the Premier League, prior to tonight’s away match against Brighton & Hove Albion, this season.

While Erling Haaland has scored 20 of those goals, another figure in Pep Guardiola’s squad has been praised for his ability to find the back of the net by one of his teammates.

Alvarez has featured in all but one of City’s Premier League matches this season prior to the away match against Brighton.

Across those 31 games, the Argentine has scored eight goals as well as providing nine assists for his teammates.

From 88 shots at goal in total, 34 of them have been on target, leaving him with a shot on target percentage of 38.6%.

In comparison to Haaland, he has had 97 attempts, with 42 being on target, resulting in the Norwegian having a shot on target percentage of 43.3%.

Julian Alvarez could have a big say in the title race for City
So while Alvarez may not statistically be a better finisher than Haaland based on this season’s Premier League games, the fact that Ortega picked out this aspect of Alvarez’s game as being the first thing he thought of about the striker shows just how dangerous he is in front of goal.

Looking ahead to the remainder of the season, if Alvarez can add to his goal tally for the campaign, this could be a key factor in potentially seeing City win a fourth Premier League title in a row and another FA Cup.

Oscar Bobb suggests Man City have a player who’s even faster than Kyle Walker

Oscar Bobb has suggested that Manchester City have a player who is faster than Kyle Walker.

Even at 33 years of age, Walker continues to prove he is as freakish of an athlete as football may have ever seen.

The £50 million man was seen outpacing Vinicius Junior and Nicolas Jackson against Real Madrid and Chelsea respectively.

Kyle Walker seems to take pride in outpacing some of the quickest players in the world and perhaps, that is why he remains in tip-top shape even at his age.

Apart from perhaps Fulham’s Adama Traore and Tottenham’s Micky van de Ven, one questions if there is a faster player than him in the Premier League.

As Pep Guardiola recently claimed, the Manchester City right-back seems to have “special genetics.”

Oscar Bobb suggests one Man City player is faster than Kyle Walker
However, over time, it is natural that Walker’s pace has declined.

Of course, the Englishman is still a freight train when he starts to run.

But visibly, Kyle Walker would perhaps claim that he was at his quickest during his final season at Spurs or his debut campaign at City.

The Sky Blues do have their fair share of quick players apart from Walker.

One of them is Erling Haaland, who is renowned for his pace, especially over long distances.

The likes of Manuel Akanji and Nathan Ake are also quite quick, even though the club captain is a lot faster than the pair.

But Oscar Bobb has suggested Jeremy Doku is quicker than Kyle Walker, as he was quizzed about which Manchester City player has the best ‘acceleration’ on Football Manager in an interview with them [via TikTok] and he named the former.

Jeremy Doku could be faster than Kyle Walker in some situations
In a sense, Oscar Bobb has a point about Jeremy Doku, as he does not perhaps take as much time as Kyle Walker does to get into his stride.

Doku has a burst to his running that is unlike many players.

Especially over the first few yards.

As a result, perhaps Oscar Bobb made the right decision by picking Jeremy Doku and not Kyle Walker when it came to his acceleration.

But over longer distances, Walker might have the edge over Doku, due to having longer legs and more running power.

Good news could be on the horizon at Manchester City, with one of Pep Guardiola’s most key players not far off signing a new contract at the club.

City fans are hoping that several players in the first-team will be agreeing new deals at the Etihad Stadium.

There has been talk of Kevin De Bruyne perhaps extending, given his deal expires in the summer of 2025. It was also reported recently that City are keen to open talks with Rodri over a new deal and to bring him more in line with the top earners at the club.

Someone else who has been mentioned for a possible new contract is Ederson.

The Brazilian stopper, who signed for the club back in 2017, is one of the most important players in the team, given his amazing ball-playing ability and the way he can build attacks from the back.

He’s been integral to City’s style of play since he stepped foot through the door – and Manchester City News can now bring word on his contract situation courtesy of transfer expert Graeme Bailey…

READ MORE: Who is Ederson? Inside the life of Man City’s £35m maverick goalkeeper
It was suggested last month that City were looking to get Ederson – who cost £35 million from Benfica – tied down to a better contract at the Etihad Stadium.

At the moment, he has a deal until the summer of 2026, and he is thought to take home around £120,000 per week. It has been reported City would seek to pay him around £200,000 per week.

Ederson is undoubtedly one of the most important players in the team, and news of an extension would likely go down very well.

Manchester City News caught up with Graeme Bailey, who believes a contract renewal is not far away now. He said: “Ederson isn’t going anywhere any time soon. Talks are ongoing with Ederson. I don’t think it’ll be long before he commits even longer, from what I’m hearing.”

Ederson last signed a new contract at City back in 2021.

It sounds as though news of Ederson extending his contract at Manchester City isn’t too far off now – and it would be no less than he deserves.

While he has probably not quite hit the same heights as he did last season, Ederson remains a dependable goalkeeper, and someone Pep believes is integral.

We saw recently how the manager threw him back into the starting XI against Luton Town and then days later, he got the nod against Real Madrid. Stefan Ortega Moreno did very well in his absence, but the Brazilian is the clear number one in the Spaniard’s eyes.

He has been a fantastic signing, and it would be quite right for him to move closer to the top earners at the club.

Man City told to launch Uefa revolt as Pep Guardiola fumes – Keith Wyness.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has suggested elite clubs like Man City should “push back against Uefa and Fifa” amid concerns about player welfare.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested Uefa and Fifa are “creating the biggest problem” despite the recent scrapping of FA Cup replays.

Speaking after Man City’s FA Cup semi-final win over Chelsea on Saturday (20 April), manager Pep Guardiola slammed his side’s “unacceptable” schedule and claimed his players made an “incredible effort” to win the game.

City were playing at Wembley just three days after bowing out of the Champions League quarter-final away at Real Madrid.

The treble-winners played 61 games across all competitions in a historic 2022-23 campaign.

Uefa are ‘creating the biggest problem’ for Man City after Guardiola rant, says Wyness
Wyness insisted the real problem is at the “top level” – despite the successful campaign to curtail the FA Cup.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “The biggest issue with player welfare is at the top level.

“For all the Uefa lip service being paid to this issue at the moment, they are the ones creating the biggest problem.

“That’s one area where English football has to push back – against Uefa and Fifa. But it may be too late, with the calendar coming up in the next year.

“There’s also the older pros, who talk about playing 60-70 games a season on pitches that were absolutely atrocious – and never complained of tiredness. There’s a lot of sympathy for that point of view.

“I think most of us would swap into place with a professional footballer, with all the benefits they have.”

In other news, Man City could sell forward this summer in shock move.

PEP 💬 (On injury update) Erling [Haaland] is not ready for tomorrow. The other two [Phil Foden and John Stones] are ready.

Man City in panic mode as Guardiola’s old nemesis plans swoop for vital player as contract talks stall

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez wants to sign Man City star Rodri
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez wants to sign Man City star Rodri

Rodri has undoubtedly been one of Manchester City’s most important players in recent years but a shock report suggests he could be on the move.

Pep Guardiola values the Spanish international extremely highly and has been doing everything in his power to tie him down to a new contract, but has so far been unsuccessful.

Rodri‘s current deal is valid until 2027 but it’s thought that some of Europe’s biggest sides could test the Cityzen’s resolve with a big summer offer.

According to journalist Joan Fontes, Man City sporting director Txiki Begiristain has informed people close to him that Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has ‘set his sights’ on signing Rodri.

The LaLiga giants’ interest in Rodri emerges only a week after they were knocked out of the Champions League by Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

Of course, Guardiola also had many battles with them when he was Barcelona boss – so he certainly won’t make a deal easy for a multitude of reasons.

Real Madrid already have an array of midfield talent at their disposal, with the likes of Jude Bellingham, Eduardo Camavinga, Federico Valverde and Aurelien Tchouameni in their ranks.

However, with veteran duo Toni Kroos and Luka Modric set to leave at the end of the season, signing another world-class centre-mid like Rodri certainly wouldn’t go amiss.

Real Madrid planning big move for Rodri
Fontes’ report states that Real Madrid are aiming to bring in Rodri this summer or next as they look to ‘take their midfield to the next level.’

Man City signed the 27-year-old for £62.5m from Real’s local rivals Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2019.

Rodri has gone on to make 250 appearances so far for Guardiola’s team, scoring 25 goals and winning a staggering 10 major trophies in just five years.

He is a key component of the Man City side that has dominated English and European football and is arguably the best defensive midfielder in the world.

Rodri makes an average of 2 tackles and 0.7 interceptions per game but is also superb with the ball at his feet, with a pass success rate of 92.1%.

With that in mind, it’s no surprise to see Real Madrid chasing Rodri’s signature, but luring him away from the Etihad will be very difficult.

Reports suggest that Man City value the Spaniard in excess of £110m, so it will be interesting to see how high Real are willing to go with an offer for him.

Meanwhile, the Cityzens continue to try and convince Rodri to put pen to paper on a new big-money contract to secure his long-term future in Manchester.
