“People act crazy”–Journalist rages following Liverpool player’s national team call-up

With Brazil interim manager Ramon Menezes calling up the national team this weekend, Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson was one of the names on the list.

That’s a proof that following his international debut in 2015, the Reds star is set to continue being an important piece with the Seleção.

This time, however, the call-up caused some anger from fans and press. Alisson may not have had a concerning season at Liverpool, but his performances in decisive moments of the national team have been questioned lately.

On Twitter (via Torcedores), Globo pundit Ana Thais Matos shared her opinion about the goalkeeper’s inclusion on the list, claiming he doesn’t deserve to be there.

“Not even Alisson would call-up Alisson these days.”

“People act crazy or they just pretend to be. Alisson was always a great goalkeeper at the club, he was once the best in the world, but what about the national team? His World Cup, once again, was not good and the national team should start renewing in this sector.”

The reason why Brazilians don’t have big trust in Alisson is that he wasn’t great in their last two World Cup eliminations. It’s believed he could have done better against Belgium in 2018 and especially against Croatia in 2022, as besides them conceding a late goal, he didn’t save any penalties.

Regardless of how bad things have been going at the national team, the Brazilian remains Liverpool’s number one, and has a contract with the Reds until 2027.
