Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has heaped praise on Ryan Gravenberch after his side’s 2-0 win over Union SG last night.

The Reds were made to work hard at times by the Belgian outfit, but they picked up a fairly comfortable victory in the end. Gravenberch has made the headlines for scoring his first goal for Liverpool, and Klopp is delighted with him.

Jurgen Klopp praises Liverpool star Ryan Gravenberch
Liverpool signed Ryan Gravenberch on transfer deadline day last month.

The 21-year-old midfielder is a huge talent. The Reds have had an eye on him since his Ajax days, and Jurgen Klopp finally got his man on the last day of the summer window.

Gravenberch is being eased into things at Liverpool. He had only started twice before last night, and on his third opportunity, he managed to open his account.

The Dutchman was alert after Union SG’s goalkeeper Anthony Moris made a meal of Trent Alexander-Arnold’s shot. Gravenberch tapped it in from close range, and that set the Reds on their way.

Speaking about the young midfielder after the game, Klopp said, as per Liverpoolfc.com: “I think it’s really obvious how good he is, what a talent he is.

“He’s enjoying the situation, enjoying himself, that’s very important, [he] gets step by step all the confidence back, that’s really cool to see. He’s in the middle of the group, fits really well to the age group of the majority of the squad, so that’s really good. That’s only positive.

“We thought he might be able to play 90, we want to give him 90, but then we saw how he dropped a little bit and didn’t want to go there [with] any risks, so that’s why we brought on Dom for a few minutes.”

Gravenberch is a huge talent
Ryan Gravenberch has always been an incredibly talented player, but many people forgot how good he is after his disappointing spell at Bayern Munich last season.

The Dutch youngster barely played for the German champions. He was nowhere near the top of the pecking order, and that’s the reason why he was so keen to leave.

Liverpool snapped him up, and it’s clear that he will get plenty of opportunities under Klopp, who thinks he is a magnificent talent.

Liverpool take on Brighton this weekend in what will be a tough game. It will be interesting to see if Gravenberch will get a start.

‘World-class’ Liverpool player set to miss Europa League clash against Union Saint-Gilloise

Liverpool will reportedly be without Caoimhin Kelleher for their Europa League clash on Thursday night.

According to The Athletic’s James Pearce, the Reds goalkeeper has picked up a knock that will rule him out of the Saint-Gilloise match.

In addition, Kelleher will reportedly also miss out on the Republic of Ireland’s upcoming games against Greece and Gibraltar.

It’s a blow for the player, who will have fancied his chances of starting in the Europa League encounter.

Kelleher’s reported absence is also a blow for Jurgen Klopp, who will either have to start Alisson Becker or opt for an academy player.

Alisson, Kelleher, Vitezslav Jaros, Marcelo Pitaluga and Fabian Mrozek are the goalkeepers Liverpool have registered for the competition.

Our view
Kelleher is a “world-class” talent who’s done well to become Liverpool’s second-choice keeper, and his absence will be a blow for Klopp.

Adrian would’ve certainly fancied his chances of getting a start, but the Reds didn’t register him for the competition.

Klopp now has a dilemma on his hands. Does he risk playing Alisson in the game – and the risks that come with it such as potential injury or suspension – or does he risk playing a youngster?

After the controversial defeat to Spurs last weekend and the fallout which is persisting, the last thing Liverpool could’ve done with is a late selection dilemma due to injury.

This is yet another headache for Klopp and, in terms of who he’ll choose in between the sticks, it’s really hard to call. I wonder whether he now regrets now picking Adrian in the squad.

Alisson is the logical option, but at the same time it may send a negative message to the other goalkeepers for whom this is an amazing opportunity to make a name for themselves.

Footage of Virgil van Dijk reacting to referee decisions in favour of Liverpool has resurfaced amid the ongoing VAR saga.

Last Saturday, Liverpool star Luis Diaz had a legitimate goal ruled out for offside by VAR.

However, it was later confirmed that the officials in charge of the VAR had made a significant error when looking at Diaz’s goal.

Since then, the PGMOL have released the VAR audio from the incident.

Speaking ahead of Liverpool’s Europa League clash against Union Saint-Gilloise, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp suggested that a replay is the best solution but admitted that it will not happen.

Now, on the back of Klopp’s words, a video of Van Dijk reacting to referee decisions in favour of Liverpool has resurfaced.

Back in 2018, after Liverpool secured passage to the Champions League final by beating AS Roma on aggregate, Van Dijk was told by a reporter: “Edin Dzeko was through, onside but given offside and then Trent Alexander Arnold seemed to handle the ball so it could have been two red cards and two penalties.”

Van Dijk simply replied: “Who cares?”

On the back of last weekend’s controversy, Van Dijk told the BBC: “I’m losing faith is difficult to say. The VAR should be absolutely clear and obvious with everything they’re deciding on. I’ve seen the still back, I think on live TV there were no lines being shown.

“It’s all a bit strange, I don’t know who was in the VAR room and making that decision. It’s not a good thing, it doesn’t look well either. It is what it is, we lost.”

Whilst Klopp said: “The audio did not change it at all, I was not interested in what things happened as I saw the outcome, we scored and it did not count.

“It’s really important that as big as football is and important as football is we deal with it in a proper way. All the people involved, the on-field referee, linesman, fourth official and especially in this case VAR, didn’t do that on purpose. It was an obvious mistake and I think there would have been solutions for it afterwards.”

He added: “Some people probably don’t want me to say, but not as the manager of Liverpool so much, more as a football person, the only outcome should be a replay. That’s how it is. It probably will not happen.”
