West Brom fans can breathe a huge sigh of relief as an update emerges regarding Crystal Palace managerial candidates to replace Roy Hodgson which doesn’t involve Carlos Corberan.

The Telegraph reported on Tuesday (13 February) that Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna and former Eintracht Frankfurt manager Oliver Glasner are to be among the contenders for the Crystal Palace job should Hodgson be replaced.

McKenna, 37, has emerged as a manager with Premier League potential after leading Ipswich Town from League One promotion to the Championship last season and mounting a challenge to reach the top flight at the first attempt.

Glasner, the former Eintracht Frankfurt boss who won the Europa League two years ago, is also admired at Palace whilst former Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper, and former Wolves manager Julen Lopetegui are also in the frame.

Thankfully enough for West Brom fans, given the superb job he’s done in Birmingham, Corberan isn’t amongst that list to takeover at Selhurst Park.

The Spaniard may not be in the frame for the job at Selhurst Park but the unnecessary rumours regarding potential exit have already gotten under way.

Italian news outlet TuttoSport shared (12 February) that the Baggies have offered Torino manager Ivan Juric a “super” contract to replace Corberan in what is a shocking twist at The Hawthorns.

West Brom are believed to have offered the Croatian coach a sensational deal worth £1.7million, with the Torino coach open to an exit from Serie A.

It is understood, with the club now closing in on a brand new takeover, an “American tycoon” would be willing to make a clean slate at the club, meaning Corberan could be set for an exit, a development that will have certainly left fans mightily disappointed.

With the Baggies embroiled in a gruelling playoff battle in the Championship right now, these kind of noises and speculation surrounding the Spaniard’s future is certainly unwarranted.

However, given the reputation of the Italian media in recent years – such talk mustn’t be taken with a pinch of salt. That doesn’t mean Premier League clubs won’t be eyeing Corberan as a potential candidate.

Corberan transformation at The Hawthorns can’t be ignored – but relief all the same

Corberan has indeed done a sensational job in the West Midlands taking the club from struggling at the lower end of the table to play-off contention, ultimately finishing three points adrift of the top six in ninth place.

Over his 66 games in charge at the club, he’s won just under half of them with 32 wins, a win percentage of 48 per cent, which is hugely impressive given the circumstances.

The job he’s done has been made all the more impressive given his limited resources in the West Midlands and that’s why the West Brom fans have taken him to their hearts and would be reticent to see him leave.

The former Huddersfield boss has been linked with numerous new job opportunities over the past year or so, which has certainly left fans panicking.

Given the progress he’s made, some of the best clubs in England will certainly be on alert for his services in the coming months, and the Spaniard could certainly have been a hot contender for the Crystal Palace job as both parties could be deemed a marriage made in heaven.Fans can certainly breathe a massive sigh of relief at this new development at Crystal Palace as Corberan isn’t believed to be amongst the candidates on the list which is a real surprise in itself. However, the Baggies can be rest assured knowing that any potential exit for the Spaniard will have to wait a little while longer as they undertake a gruelling battle for the Championship playoffs between now and May.In other West Brom news, Don Goodman has shared his thoughts on the ongoing takeover situation at The Hawthorns. For more West Brom news, follow us on Facebook or join our brand new WhatsApp Channel for instant updates to be sent straight to your phone.
