Linda Pizzuti has shrugged off the suggestion of one supporter that she does not care about Liverpool.

The wife of the Reds’ principal owner, John W Henry, frequently posts on social media after matches involving Jurgen Klopp’s side with her take on the scoreline.

This was once again the case after Liverpool’s Boxing Day win at Burnley, with Pizzuti posting the following message of the victory: “Diogo’s 50th Liverpool goal, Darwin’s early goal, and an exciting 2023 is complete for Liverpool with 3 important away points.”

Plenty of fans left a comment for the 45-year-old celebrating the three points, meanwhile others saw this as an opportunity to make a request for new signings ahead of the January transfer window.

Demanding action from Fenway Sports Group in the transfer market, one Instagram user wrote: “You better sign some players! But of course you are not gonna do that because you don’t give a f*** about Liverpool.”

This remark did not go unnoticed by Pizzuti, who took the time to respond to this suggestion. She said: “Your anger after a win when we are on top shows that there is something else that is bothering you. Sorry about that, hope you find peace.”

It remains to be seen whether or not the Reds will move to sign players during the transfer window, which officially opened today. As reported by the ECHO, one player Liverpool are keeping tabs on is Genoa midfielder Morten Frendrup.

The Danish star has impressed in Serie A this season, although a deal is unlikely to be done this month as the scouts continue to assess the development of the 22-year-old defensive-minded midfielder. His non-homegrown status is considered a drawback at this stage.

Injuries mean that Liverpool have recalled Owen Beck from Dundee.

Dundee have confirmed that Owen Beck has been recalled by Liverpool after his loan spell.

The left-back returns to Anfield in the injury absence of senior pair Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas. Robertson has been sidelined since October after requiring shoulder surgery and won’t be back until the end of January, at the earlier. Tsimikas, meanwhile, suffered a broken collarbone in a 1-1 draw against Arsenal on 22 December and is also sidelined for a prolonged period.

As a result, Liverpool have exercised their option to cut Beck’s spell at Dundee short. The 21-year-old recorded two goals and two assists in 20 appearances for the Scottish Premiership side and earned a call-up to the Wales senior squad.

Now Beck will head back to the Reds to provide defensive cover. A Dundee statement said: Dundee Football Club can confirm that Liverpool have recalled Owen Beck and his loan with Dundee has ended. Owen signed on loan for Dundee in the summer and quickly became an important player for The Dee putting in fantastic performances.

“His great displays led to him being called up to the Welsh National squad for the first time and he has received many plaudits for his performances. With the January transfer window now open Liverpool FC have executed their right to recall Owen from his season-long loan deal. Owen will be greatly missed by everyone at Dundee FC as he has been outstanding both on and off the field.

“We would like to thank Owen for all he has given to Dundee FC and we wish him all the very best for the future. Owen will always be welcomed back in Dundee and at the Scot Foam Stadium at Dens Park.”

Beck becomes the second Liverpool player on loan to be recalled after Fabio Carvalho had his spell at RB Leipzig cut short.

Liverpool simply can’t afford to sign £60m Premier League midfielder now
Mon 1 January 2024 16:00
James Brooke
Liverpool are low on funds for the January transfer window having brought in four players over the summer.

The Reds invested heavily in their midfield ahead of the current season. With Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch all signed, Liverpool spent around £145m.

Despite that, there have been plenty of claims that Jurgen Klopp is ready to dip into the January transfer market, too.

Joao Palhinha of Fulham is a name that has been regularly mentioned. However, in recent weeks talk of the 28-year-old joining Liverpool has cooled considerably.

And now speaking on yesterday’s edition of BBC Football Daily, journalist Mark Ogden has suggested that the Reds simply can’t afford to bring in the £60m-rated Palhinha.

“I don’t think they have the money to do it,” Ogden said, when asked about the Portuguese moving to Anfield. “I don’t think having made such a big investment in the squad in the summer they can go out and sign Palhinha. They signed four midfielders in the summer. Endo will be away at the Asian Cup, but I just don’t think Liverpool can get that deal done.”

Liverpool not ready to invest this winter
With Liverpool sitting top of the Premier League table at the halfway stage of the season, it would feel like exactly the right time to invest further in the squad.

Making a top-quality addition this month could be the difference between winning the title and finishing second.

MORE LIVERPOOL STORIES
Having been brilliant for Fulham ever since joining in 2022, Palhinha could be that signing.

However, history tells us that this isn’t how Liverpool operate. They don’t tend to make short-term decisions in the transfer market.

Joao Palhinha
From a ‘bigger picture’ point of view, that’s fine and actually marks the Reds’ recruitment out as one of the best around.

But this season could be seen as a bit of a rare opportunity. If Klopp’s squad were without holes and ready to compete at the top level all season long then fair enough, do nothing.

The difference here is that there are one or two glaring areas that Liverpool could improve right now. Plug those gaps and a title challenge can almost definitely be sustained. Fail to do so and things could fall apart.

Of course we know that Klopp will back the players he currently has to get the job done. Palhinha would also be a costly signing closing in on his thirties. Normally we’d agree that a big-money transfer should be avoided. But on this occasion, we’d love to see Liverpool buck their own trend. Go on, do it, Reds. Loosen those purse strings!

Liverpool have now made a bid for ‘absolutely phenomenal’ Champions League winner

Lee Connor
Mon 1 January 2024 12:30, UK
Liverpool are looking to make some moves in the January window as Jurgen Klopp looks to capitalise on a strong first half of the season.

The Reds are top of the table at the moment and could go three points clear of Aston Villa be beating Newcastle at Anfield tonight.

Regardless of tonight’s result, though, Liverpool will be active this January. A defender is high on their list, with the likes of Goncalo Inacio and Antonio Silva among the names mentioned.

However, there could also be movement for a top class midfielder and according to AS, Liverpool have now made a move for Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich.

Liverpool join bidding for Joshua Kimmich
According to the report from the Spanish outlet, Liverpool and Manchester United have now ‘joined the bidding’ for Kimmich.

It comes amid talk of a move to Real Madrid for the German star. Kimmich’s contract at Bayern expires in 2025 and Madrid are thought to be keen on signing him.

Photo by Richard Sellers/Sportsphoto/Allstar via Getty Images
However, it won’t be straight forward for the Spanish side as Liverpool and United linger in the background.

MORE LIVERPOOL STORIES
Despite signing new midfielders in the summer, some at Liverpool feel a top number six would round things off for them. Kimmich, then, ticks that box.

Lauded by Jose Mourinho, Kimmich certainly has the seal of approval of the former Chelsea boss.

“I think he looks to me, very intelligent related to football, very intelligent, understands the moments of the games and understands the difference between positions and understands what he has to do here and what he has to do there. I think he’s phenomenal, an absolutely phenomenal player,” Mourinho said of Kimmich.

Kimmich would be some signing for Klopp
As Mourinho’s praise suggests, Joshua Kimmich is one of the very best players in the world and has been for some time.

He has been a driving force behind Bayern’s success and his versatility is also a massive weapon.

For Liverpool, the idea of seeing Kimmich in midfielder with Szoboszlai and Mac Allister is something for fans to salivate over.

The German would bring that added touch of class, not to mention elite winning mentality. After all, this is a player who has won the Champions League and eight German league titles.

If this one comes off, then Liverpool win the transfer window, hands down.

Roberto Firmino is ready to quit Al-Ahli after falling out of favour with the Saudi Pro League club and has suitors all across Europe – including England.

The former Liverpool favourite, 32, left Anfield as a free agent and joined the exodus of top stars who moved out to the Middle East during the summer, despite speculation linking him with a move elsewhere.

Firmino made the perfect start to life in Saudi Arabia by plundering a hat-trick on his Al-Ahli debut. However, his stock has significantly waned after failing to score a single goal since his maiden treble and he’s found himself out of the team in recent weeks.

Saudi chiefs ‘pinpoint date for Mohamed Salah transfer’ as Liverpool worry lingers
According to talkSPORT, the Brazil international is considering moving on in January after growing frustrated with his situation at Al-Ahli – and a return to the Premier League is seemingly not out of the question.

The report goes on to outline that Firmino – who is frustrated with Al-Ahli’s system – was being courted by Sheffield United prior to Paul Heckingbottom’s sacking earlier this month. And while it remains to be seen if their interest will cool in the wake of Heckingbottom’s departure, Firmino still has plenty of other suitors across Europe.

There is interest in Firmino’s services from clubs in Turkey, while the forward would also consider a return to his native Brazil. Al-Ahli are open to loaning Firmino out in January but would prefer him to remain in the Middle East.

Join the debate! Would you like to see Firmino back in the Premier League this January? Let us know here.

While it’s unclear where Firmino will be playing his football after the January transfer window, the former Liverpool favourite will be making a pilgrimage back to Merseyside in the coming weeks.

Firmino will be returning to the city for a book signing following the release of his memoirs, “Si Senor: My Liverpool Years”. The book shares some of his favourite memories from his eight years at Liverpool, including memorable moments from the club’s Premier League and Champions League-winning campaigns.

If a transfer back to England does materialise in the coming weeks, Firmino could yet come up against several of his old teammates and Jurgen Klopp on the pitch. But for now, Firmino’s future is very much up in the air as we head into January.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
England international full-back Alexander-Arnold was replaced late on as he limped to the touchline, while Colombian winger Diaz was also substituted in the closing stages after receiving treatment for a knock.

WHAT THEY SAID
Klopp has said of the “painful” blow taken by Alexander-Arnold and whether he could be forced to sit out a trip to Newcastle: “He told me he had a kick which was pretty painful. But as far as a twist or fall, it was a kick. That’s why we changed then but I hope he will be fine.”

The German added on Diaz, who was on target against Bournemouth: “As long as he was fresh and everything he was obviously super. A massive threat for everybody. He is in a good moment, no doubt about it.”

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
There appears to be little concern regarding the fitness of two key men in Liverpool’s plans, with the Reds having taken four points from their opening two Premier League games in 2023-24 to suggest that they can offer a positive response to the disappointment of finishing fifth last season.

Former Liverpool defender Daniel Agger admits he rejected a mega-money move to Manchester City during his playing days at Anfield – despite the Reds wanting to cash in on the defender.

Agger, now 39, made the move to Anfield from Danish Superliga side Brondby in 2006 and enjoyed a fine eight-year career on Merseyside under managers Rafa Benitez, Roy Hodgson, Kenny Dalglish and later Brendan Rodgers.

The former Denmark international was part of Benitez’s Liverpool side that came within a whisker of sealing a first Premier League crown in 19 years in 2009, only to miss out on title success to Manchester United by four points after several draws throughout the campaign.

By 2012, however, Agger found himself at the centre of a transfer tug-of-war between Man City and Barcelona, who both hoped to capitalise on the defender’s expiring contract. However, after Spanish giants Barca’s offer was blown out of the water by the UAE-backed City, Agger admits he had no interest in swapping Merseyside for Manchester.

“It was a strange one,” said Agger, reflecting on the events of 2012. “I remember I got presented for all these things and the club asked me what I was going to do and I said, ‘If you want me here, I will stay’. But I said, ‘If you don’t want me, if you don’t see me as part of your future I think it’s time that I go because I want to play football. I prefer to do it here but if you don’t think I’m good enough then I would like to go because these offers are on the table and I don’t know if I will have them next year’.

“I don’t know the story from their side, I think they agreed a price (with Barcelona) and they accepted it and came to me and said, ‘this is it’. I said, ‘okay, fair enough’. But then from the side, another offer came in which was a lot higher, which they accepted and I didn’t want to go to that club.

“I said, ‘if you want to sell me I go down there (to Barcelona) otherwise I don’t go’. And another offer came in from the same club (Man City), higher, and my feeling was that the club wanted me to go because it was a lot of money back then. I said, ‘there’s no chance I’m going to that club, so better just stop now’.”

Speaking on the ‘Aldo Meets’ Podcast, host and Liverpool ECHO columnist John Aldridge asked Agger if the other club in question was Manchester City, to which he replied: “Yeah.”

After falling down the pecking order under Rodgers in 2013/14, Agger left Liverpool and returned to Brondby in 2014, aged 29. In 2016, Agger retired from the sport altogether.
