Jamie Carragher and Rio Ferdinand disagree over prediction for crunch Liverpool match vs Man Utd

Liverpool will be seeking revenge when it takes on Manchester United for the second time in three weeks on Sunday. The Reds make the trip to Old Trafford after seeing their quadruple dream come to an end on March 17.

Jürgen Klopp’s side had led 2-1 in the FA Cup quarter-final before a late Antony strike sent the tie into extra-time. Liverpool then went ahead again through Harvey Elliott but United hit back once again through Marcus Rashford. The home side then stole it in the last minute as Amad Diallo raced through to score.

The two sides resume rivalries this weekend with Liverpool looking to boost its hopes of winning the Premier League. United meanwhile remains sixth, with an outside chance of qualifying for the Champions League.

Ahead of the match, former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher was asked on the Stick to Football podcast if it was Liverpool’s toughest game in the title run-in. Carragher agreed but suggested the Reds should have enough to win 2-1.

Ex-United skipper Rio Ferdinand wasn’t on board though and said: “The problem with United is, you don’t know what (United side) is going to turn up. Even the other day, when it beat Liverpool, Liverpool lost that game more than Man United won that.

“I think Liverpool has got the bit between its teeth and there’s a consistency with the way they are playing that makes them favorites, I think, even at Old Trafford. But, I’m going to go for a draw. I’m going to go for a 1-1.”

Ferdinand’s prediction comes after he suggested Manchester City remains favorites to win the Premier League title. City beat Aston Villa at the Etihad on Wednesday and the former defender said on TNT Sports: “On paper, I think City has got the easier run-in.

“The experience is going to play a big part. Liverpool has those three away games at Fulham, Everton and West Ham, which are difficult. “I think Arsenal has the toughest run-in. I’ve said Man City from the beginning of the season and I continue to say it now.”

Liverpool.com says: The Reds will travel to Old Trafford determined not to lose points in the title race and the FA Cup defeat will only provide extra motivation. Like Ferdinand says, Liverpool did throw that match away and let United back into the game. The same cannot happen on Sunday if Klopp’s men are to end the season as champions.

Zabaleta turned down a number of offers from clubs in Italy, Spain and England to join West Ham, and is looking forward to a new challenge.

“This is an absolute pleasure to be part of West Ham United Football Club,” he told West Ham TV.”I hope I can give you good moments. Of course, I come to the club to enjoy myself and hopefully we can have a very successful time.

“Sometimes a new challenge is all you need as a person and as a player. I thought my time at City was done. It’s been a fantastic nine years, absolutely brilliant.

“Manchester City gave me the opportunity to come to this wonderful league, the Premier League, something I’ve been enjoying a lot as a player and of course for me it was probably the right time to move on.

“Also, as a player, I thought I wanted to keep playing in the Premier League. For me, after being in this country for so long, this is a new challenge for me in the Premier League and I’m ready for it and looking forward to it.”

Zabaleta will likely battle with Sam Byram for a starting role at right-back, with the Irons having previously struggled to find cover in the position.

Michail Antonio and Cheikh Kouyate have both been forced to fill in, but Zabaleta’s arrival should allow them to be deployed in more familiar roles moving forward.
