NEWSMan City CEO reveals future plans for teenage Girona starPublished: 09:00 on November 17th 2023 | Last Updated: 00:28 on November 17th 2023By Adam Booker

Manchester City CEO has revealed the club’s plans for Girona star Sávio after his sensational start to the LaLiga campaign.

City Football Group (CFG) affiliate club Girona are making quite the splash in LaLiga so far this season, sitting top of the table after a sensational start to the season in the Spanish top-flight with 11 wins from their first 13 games.

Despite spending time in the second division of Spanish football after relegation from LaLiga in 2018/19 campaign, the White and Reds are making a name for themselves in their second season back in the big-time.

While a number of CFG players are shining for Girona, teenage sensation Sávio is standing out among the crowd. The Brazilian, who is on loan from French CFG club ESTAC Troyes, has chipped in with eight goal contributions so far in the campaign as a standout performer.

Naturally, questions have been raised whether or not the teenager could soon be on his way to Manchester City, who ultimately own the player. But the club’s CEO, Ferran Soriano, says otherwise.

“Savinho will stay in Girona until the end of the season and I think he will stay for more seasons,” Soriano told Mundo Deportivo, relayed by Sports Witness.

“He will not move from here.”

The route for players from the CFG pipeline to the Manchester City first team has been infrequently traveled, with few players making it to Pep Guardiola’s first team after entering into the multi-club setup.

But with more success on the pitch for the affiliate clubs, that route could become easier for players looking to break into the City first team in the coming years.

After the international break, Girona will square off with Athletic Club Bilbao as they look to continue their sensational run to a potential fairytale LaLiga title.

Meanwhile, Manchester City also remain top of their respective league, and will face second place Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium as the Premier League title race begins to heat up this winter.

Jubilation in the stands as Colombia secured victory against Brazil… disappointment for Argentina who saw their 14-game unbeaten streak ended by Ronald Araujo and Darwin Nunez.

The Uruguayan sensation netted late to double the lead for Marcelo Bielsa’s men and put them second in their World Cup qualifying table, two points behind Leo Messi’s outfit.

It was perhaps the most Liverpool-esque of goals, with the former Benfica hitman sprinting away in a lightning-quick counter before netting past Emiliano Martinez.

Liverpool player gets 4/10 rating after he was hooked at half-time for his country last night

Liverpool star Alexis Mac Allister had a game to forget as Argentina suffered a shock defeat to Uruguay in their World Cup qualifiers last night.

Marcelo Bielsa is Uruguay’s manager now, and he has completely transformed the side. He helped them beat Brazil in last month’s international break and has now picked up a fantastic win over the world champions. The 68-year-old had a special plan to stop Mac Allister last night, and it worked brilliantly.

Liverpool star Alexis Mac Allister gets 4/10 rating as Argentina lose to Brazil
Alexis Mac Allister has been earning rave reviews for both Liverpool and Argentina over the last few months and rightly so.

However, he will be the first one to admit that he had a disappointing game last night.

The Argentine was once again deployed as a number six. He was brilliant there in last month’s international break, but Marcelo Bielsa exposed him last night.

The Uruguay boss had a player marking Mac Allister from the first minute of the game. Every time he touched the ball, he was under pressure, and that made it an awkward evening for the Liverpool man.

Mac Allister, who received a yellow card in the first half, was substituted at half-time, and TyC Sports have now given him a 4/10 rating for his display.

They wrote: “Bielsa sent him a permanent mark and he was never comfortable. The slightest imperfection and it was loss (of the ball).

“Booked, he came out at halftime to make way for Lautaro.”

Mac Allister needs to play higher up
Alexis Mac Allister has played as a number six for both Liverpool and Argentina, and he has looked really good in games where his side dominate.

However, against tougher opposition where they aren’t in complete control, he tends to get exposed, especially if he is man-marked like he was last night. His lack of pace is an issue too.

Liverpool take on Manchester City next in the Premier League, and we’re sure Pep Guardiola would’ve watched how Bielsa took Mac Allister out of the game last night.

If Jurgen Klopp starts the Argentine as a number six in that game, it won’t surprise us at all to see Guardiola employ Bielsa’s tactics to stop Mac Allister.

Chelsea missed out on signing ‘the next Pele’ in teenager set to become a superstar
Chelsea were beaten by Real Madrid in the race to sign one of football’s most exciting talents last year.

Cole Palmer is flying at Chelsea after Man City move | Football Digest
Chelsea previously missed out on a deal to land one of football’s most exciting young talents in Endrick, who will join Real Madrid upon celebrating his 18th birthday next summer. The Brazilian ace has turned plenty of heads with his age-defying performances at Palmeiras and has already been compared to the likes of Pele and Neymar in spite of his tender years.

Mikel Arteta ‘driving force’ behind Arsenal bid to sign third Man City player
Endrick was among the hottest properties in world football last year, with a host of top clubs said to have been circling around him after taking note of his sky-high potential. Chelsea were among the sides keen on snapping him up and came very close to getting a deal done, only for Real Madrid to swoop for themselves in a move worth around £62million.

Chelsea had acted quickly to firm up their interest in Endrick by engaging in talks with the teenager and his representatives, while Paris Saint-Germain were also proactive in their pursuit of a deal. Both clubs invited him to their training facilities as they presented the plans they had drawn up to maximise his development, according to The Independent.

Sky Sports also reported that Chelsea welcomed Endrick’s family to their training base at Cobham, where he was greeted by fellow Brazilian and veteran defender Thiago Silva. However, it was not enough to convince him to pick them over Real Madrid, who he ended up committing his future to last December.

JUST IN: Man Utd replacement for Casemiro endorsed by Champions League icon Marcelo

Endrick’s move to the Bernabeu was reportedly influenced by the presence of Vinicius Junior, who was said to have been ‘central’ to Real Madrid’s plan to land the teenage forward. The 23-year-old was also plucked from South America at a very young age for a high fee and shares the same agents as Endrick, which would have helped to smooth over negotiations.

It remains to be seen whether Endrick will be able to replicate the success of his countryman in Spain, with the Palmeiras ace having already made a significant impression during his time in Brazil. He became the youngest player to appear for their senior squad when he made his debut aged 16 years, two months and 16 days last October.

Neville worried about two Arsenal players he fears could stop them winning title
Endrick was selected for Brazil duty for the first time earlier this month, having shone at youth level for the Selecao in years gone by. He is clearly seen as a star in the making by caretaker boss Fernando Diniz and will be hoping to make his international debut in their upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Colombia and Argentina.

Chelsea, meanwhile, will be left to wonder what might have been if Endrick had decided to join them over Real Madrid at the end of last year. It seems inevitable that he will go on to become one of the world’s best players if he continues to develop at his current rate, although it will be Los Blancos reaping the benefits instead of the Blues.

West Ham United monitoring Timo Werner, ex-Chelsea striker ‘free to leave’ RB Leipzig

West Ham United are currently monitoring the situation involving RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner, according to 90min.

The publication reported on its website on Thursday (16 November) that the German is free to leave his current club.

90min added that several Premier League clubs, such as Fulham and Crystal Palace, could bring the former Chelsea forward back to England.

“RB Leipzig have decided that Timo Werner is free to leave the club and that could now pave the way for the former Chelsea forward to return to the Premier League, 90min understands.

“With Leipzig ready to let him move elsewhere, 90min understands that several Premier League clubs have been contacted as potential destinations. Specifically, a return to London looks like it could be possible, with Fulham and Crystal Palace each receptive so far – both are interested in a loan.

“West Ham is another option. The Hammers, who can offer Europa League football and look a safe bet to reach the competition’s knockout stages, are also monitoring the situation and have ruled nothing out at this stage as the January transfer windows comes into view.”

London return?

Werner didn’t exactly have a wonderful time during his spell in England, with the striker scoring 23 goals from 89 Chelsea appearances.

It really was a strange period for a player who was scoring goals for fun before his switch to Stamford Bridge, both for club and country.

Werner was a Leipzig hero before his exit to West London in 2020, with the striker trying to repair his ties there by returning in 2022.

But it hasn’t exactly gone to plan, with the 27-year-old now seemingly surplus to requirements, having scored just two goals from his 13 matches in all competitions this season.

It could, therefore, be a huge risk to snap up the attacker, although he may be available on the cheap given his current predicament.

West Ham would, however, seemingly be involved in a battle for his services given the reported interest from other London clubs.

The Hammers could certainly do with a new striker, but it remains to be seen whether or not Werner is the answer to their problem.

In other West Ham news, Hammers scouts have watched a European trio in action, with their clubs now braced for bids.

Newcastle Four Players Involved In An Car Accident,Three Dead Only Pick

Ed Harrison’s
THE NEWCASTLE UNITED BLOG

This Is Why Top Premier League Clubs Are Alarmed By Newcastle’s Financial Prowess
Dr. Ed Harrison
Thursday, November 16th, 2023
Commented 43 times

The Shields Gazette have an excellent article out today on how much the Newcastle owners spent on bringing players into the 4 clubs they are now majority owners of – in the Saudi Pro League.

The 4 clubs are Al Hilal, Al Ittihad, Al Ahli, and Al Nassr and they are all majority-owned by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF).

And FIFA has just reported that the PIF paid a staggering £701M on new players in the summer and there are no FFP rules governing investment as there are in the Premier League.

Former Premier League players now plying their trade for the 4 PIF clubs in the Saudi Pro League include Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar, Karim Benzema, Riyad Mahrez, Ruben Neves, Jordan Henerson, Fabinho, Kalidou Koulibaly, Alex Telles, Edouard Mendy and Sadio Mane.

And EUFA are reported to be considering inviting Al Nassr into the Champions League for next season.

And we shouldn’t forget that Newcastle sold Allan Saint-Maximin to Al Ahli for £22M last summer and he has now played 13 games for his Saudi club with 3 goals and 3 assists.

While at Newcastle Allan played 124 games with 13 goals and 21 assists.

So Allan Saint-Maximin seems to be doing well enough in Saudi Arabia by his stats.

The fact that the PIF can spend a huge amount of money over one summer shows why other top Premier League clubs are alarmed about Newcastle in the future.

We are limited at the moment because of our revenues – but once they rise it seems like the PIF can afford any transfer amount Newcastle need, under the rules of the FFP, where you can only spend so much, based on your annual revenue.

Our owners are working hard to raise the commercial revenues at Newcastle and are doing a good job of getting some stellar deals closed.

Our revenues in a couple of years could be double what they were when the new owners took over – from around £180M to close to £400M.

So that’s why the top PL clubs and the Premier League itself are trying to put restrictions on Newcastle.

It’s a pity they didn’t do that in the past with clubs like Chelsea and Manchester City.

Chelsea have won 5 Premier League championships, 2 Champions Leagues, 5 FA Cups, and 3 League cups since they were acquired by Roman Abramovich for £140m in 2003.

Manchester City, since they were acquired by Sheikh Mansour in September 2008 for £200M, have won the following – 7 Premier League Championships, 3 FA Cups, 6 League Cups, and one Champions League.

Rafa Benitz was right when he said the best clubs in the Premier League are those with the most money.

This is the statement Rafa made back in 2013, while interim manager at Chelsea:

“Football has changed. We know since the arrival of people with big money, the Premier League has changed,”

“To manage a club with common sense used to be fine. To have a good manager like Wenger was fine, and you could achieve things.”

“Now it’s a different world with clubs with big money.”

“You cannot compare the two.”

As far as we can tell, our owners are managing Newcastle with common sense and also have big money available, probably more each year as our revenues continue to rise.

So we wonder how many trophies Newcastle will win in the next decade – even with the Premier League doing everything they can to prevent us becoming super successful – like Chelsea and Manchester City in the past.

What do you think about this?

Ref Callum Wilson. 11 games in and scored 7 goals. Do the maths. Yes, he gets injured a lot, but who else is going to 20 goals this season?

Aye it’s great. When he’s on the pitch.

When he’s injured, it doesn’t help too much. Which is why a 3rd striker is probably a good idea to fill in when he’s not playing.

Ben Parkinson looked busy against Bournemouth, but big ask of the kid.

Wilson is at the backend of his career, can only get worse. Only has 18 month left so is about right. Plenty off the wage bill in the summer. Squad could be unrecognisable next season.

What it will be is a shit load stronger. Cant be playing Matt Ritchie in the PL. just cant.

Jail. ambiguous question. If you are referring to fitter than a butcher’s dog, all we need is Pope to get injured and our injured team is better than the one on the pitch. Wilson gets injured but he scores when there.

Chelsea – Nkunku, Jackson, Broja
Man Utd – Hojland, Martial, Rashford
Liverpool – Nunez, Jota, Gakpo
Man City – Haaland, Alvarez, whoever Pep turns into a striker.
Arsenal – Jesus, Nketia, no one
Spuds – Son, no one
Villa – Watkins, no one
Brighton – Wellbeck, Ferguson,

So all the top clubs dont really carry three ‘9’s.
Just a shame ours are made of glass.

Other teams do seem to bring youngsters in when injuries occur, we are still beholding to Brucies heroes such as Ritchie, Dummett and Krafth. Which is fair enuf currently, but we really do need to start sourcing better kids for our youth teams.

Only good kids are from Chelsea’s (Hall and Tino). Miley looks technically smart but miles away in terms of athleticism

Following on from Check:

Brighton list 7 players as ‘strikers’
Villa gave Watkins and Duran (Watkins never seems to get injured much)
Arsenal list 6 players as forwards
Man City, Haaland and Alvarez never seem to get injured much
Liverpool list 6 players as forwards

etc etc

We list 4 players as forwards: Isak, Wilson, Gordon and Barnes.

Barnes is a stretch in my opinion and Wilson gets injured a lot and unfortunately Isak has been unlucky since joining too. So think we need that 3rd option more than other clubs that are around us.

Once upon a time.
We were linked with Watkins when he was at Brentford but Cabbage wanted Wilson as he’d been monitoring him for years, going back to his Coventry days. So that’s why we signed Wilson instead of Watkins.

Wilson this season has missed 6 games through injury so far
22/23 season missed 7
21/22 season missed 30
20/21 season missed 18

Isak this season has missed 6 games through injury so far
22/23 season missed 16
21/22 season missed 5
20/21 season missed 0

Wilsons injury record has been bad for years. He’s a superb striker but you just know at some stage in the season, he won’t be available for a decent amount of games. Isak by the looks of his history has just been a bit unlucky since joining. Maybe adapting to English league physicality.

I won’t go through every clubs players as that’d take forever, so lets just go for a mixed bunch:

Evan Ferguson has missed 2 games through injury this season
22/23 missed 5 games

Joao Pedro has missed 0 games through injury this season
22/23 missed 14 games
21/22 missed 0 games
20/21 missed 0 games

Ollie Watkins seemingly has little injury history to go by, but what I did find:

Point being, Wilson is the most consistent in terms of missing games due to injury compared to other clubs strikers. Meaning we are always more at risk of being short of options up top in comparison to teams around us.

It isn’t about what other clubs have 3 striker options or not. It’s about what other clubs have a striker they know will consistently miss a chunk of games each season because of injury.

I actually captained Watkins in my FPL team last week 🙂

But I’d still have Callum (even though I don’t have him in my FPL team)

I asked the other day, which of our CL rivals carried three out and out strikers.
None of them do really.
They carry one or two and then have wide forwards who weigh in with the goals, such as Rashford, Martinelli, Sako, Diaz, Salah, Diaby, Sterling etc
If we get another ‘9’ it will be at the expense of Wilson leaving, in the same window in my view.
None of the top teams carry three strikers of real quality and most of them don’t have the FFP restrictions we currently have.
Like Raj said, I think it’s much more likely we’ll get a wide forward that can play on the right, a potential upgrade on and in competition with Almiron … Someone with a track record of weighing in with goals and could act as a makeshift striker too.
We’ll continue to invest in youth and hopefully we’ll bring through another top striker that way.
People thinking we’ll spend big on a striker in January of the quality to have put the likes of Dortmund to the sword though, I think are well wide of the mark.
Like I said, not without selling Wilson at the same time, I can’t see a £100k/week player being allowed to become a third choice emergency striker. If the likes of Citeh, Manure or Liverpool can’t afford it, no chance we can yet IMO.

You know, wasnt so long back we whooped Palace at home 4-0, everyone strutting about not a care in the world.

Three weeks later after we’ve been thru Dortmund and Bournemouth we look doomed.

We arnt doomed if Isak stays fit, in fact the opposite we could do great. Fine margins, can our best number 9 stay fit. Thats the question.

Isak is key to the whole season, if he starts every PL and european game we could be in business. Him and Willock and Gordon could be mint.

Hopefully this two weeks does us the world of good.

Just got an awful feeling about Botman. Some of injuries do linger far longer than first imagined.

Much as I admire Wilson as a person and a player who has always known the way to goal I can’t help thinking that his time at the Toon is almost up. We can’t have players continually in the treatment room no matter how good they are.
I think he should be sold in the summer window and replaced with two young hungry forwards who have a decent goal scoring record for Howe to improve on.
Not a popular comment I would think, but I’d suggest that if we get the money back (or most of it) for Tonali we jettison him too in the summer when his ban is complete. Let’s face it, he hasn’t exactly shown a lot while here and I think his name will always be slightly tainted in this country.
This window and the summer one will be crucial in the progress of this club.
Misplaced and sentimental loyalty to players who have seen (or won’t see) better days for a variety of reasons must be replaced by a number of top class, fitter individuals.
I’m thinking of people like Lascelles, Wilson, Murphy, Gillespie, Krafth, Karius, Dummett, Manquillo and possibly Anderson (who already isn’t as good as Miley). That’s without finally dispatching some of our fringe players like Clarke, Lewis, Hendrick and Hayden who are costing us money for no return.
The jury is also out on Barnes although his injury probably keeps him safe for now.
I’m sure the PIF will realise our meteoric rise can easily be reversed with the wrong or delayed decisions, howevr I do trust them and Eddie to get it right.

I can’t see Wilson leaving though. His contract was extended to 30/06/25. As long as he is with us there is a good chance of trophies. If that means limiting his minutes to keep him available then all well and good. That’ll help extend his career but we can’t rely on him. That is the conundrum. Another is that Eddie likes versatile players but he doesn’t seem to like playing someone out of their first choice position. How does he square that circle?

Wynsleap, we can’t quickly get rid of the 14 players you list. Such a fire sale would devastate the team and team spirit. Not to mention what are we using for money to fund all of the replacements? I much prefer our current evolution. It will take longer but we will be stronger for it.

I also think we haven’t heard the last of the Tonali saga especially as a second Milan player has been charged. I can’t remember seeing any kind of contrition from Tonali which is disappointing.

Spurs player aiming for sooner than expected injury comeback – Alasdair Gold
BY
EMILIO GALANTINI
PUBLISHED 4 HOURS AGO
He’s in a race against time.

An injured Tottenham star is aiming to make his comeback sooner than expected as manager Ange Postecoglou deals with a host of absentees.

Postecoglou dealt Spurs injury blows
The north Londoners were on an imperious run of form before their 4-1 defeat to Chelsea 10 days ago. Postecoglou had enjoyed the best start made by any new manager in Premier League history, winning eight out of a possible 10 league games while remaining unbeaten.

However, their face off with ex-manager Mauricio Pochettino changed the entire dynamic of their early season, with star summer signings James Maddison and Micky van de Ven injured during their defeat to Chelsea at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Both are now expected to be out until 2024, while fellow stars Destiny Udogie and Cristian Romero picked up red cards.

Consecutive defeats have followed since, and it’s clear that Postecoglou was seriously missing the aforementioned quartet during Tottenham’s 2-1 defeat to Wolves last Saturday.

This has led to reports that Spurs will target a left-sided central defender in January, as van de Ven’s injury has particularly exposed their lack of depth in defence. Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah, Bournemouth defender Lloyd Kelly, Uruguay star Sebastian Caceres, Everton’s Ben Godfrey and Crystal Palace ace Marc Guehi have all been linked with moves to Spurs as a result.

Both van de Ven and Maddison join Ryan Sessegnon, Manor Solomon, Richarlison, Alfie Whiteman and Ivan Perisic on the treatment table, with the latter expected to be out for the remainder of this Premier League season.

Perisic “aiming” to be back sooner than expected
The Croatia international sustained a complex ACL injury earlier in the season after being used regularly by Postecoglou, and his quality off the bench was proving a real asset at one point.

In what was described as a “big blow” by reporter Michael Bridge, losing Perisic came as some very bad news, with some believing he may have played his last game in a Spurs shirt.

The 34-year-old, though, has plans of his own – as relayed by football.london journalist Alasdair Gold. The reporter says that Perisic is aiming to be back before the end of the campaign in an effort to boost Postecoglou’s chase for European football qualification.

Perisic impressed under Conte
The former Inter Milan star, if he can make an early return, would certainly provide the Spurs head coach with a quality option capable of playing an important role. Perisic’s versatility is one big plus point, with his usefulness in the final third coming as another.

He registered more league assists than any other Tottenham player under former boss Antonio Conte last season, with the Italian calling him a “top player”.

Does not dive into tackles

“It is very important we sign a player like Ivan Perisic because he can see the way to try to learn something from Ivan,” said Conte on Perisic last summer (via The Boy Hotspur).

“We are talking about a real important player and top player. Sometimes it is good to bring a player in your team who is a bit over age but at the same time a good player with experience who can improve a young player in your squad.”

Arsenal’s Gabriel now raves about 31-year-old who Jurgen Klopp sold for Liverpool in 2018

James Brooke
Arsenal defender Gabriel has name-checked a former Liverpool player as one of his favourite Brazilians.

Gabriel has been one of the Premier League’s outstanding defenders of the past 18 months, finding his way into the Brazilian national team in the process.

As one of the most historic footballing nations on the planet, Brazil has produced some of the best players in history. Asked to name his most inspirational countrymen of ‘years gone by’ by arsenal.com. the 25-year-old mentioned a name all too familiar to Liverpool fans: Philippe Coutinho.

“After Ronaldo [Nazario] came to Corinthians, of course I watched him a lot and he’s a top player,” Gabriel began.

“I like Neymar so I’m happy to be there with him. Now he’s injured but he’s a good guy. I love to be there because I watched Neymar when I was younger.

“A lot of players, Marquinhos as well, Thiago Silva… I’m so happy to be there. Coutinho is a top player and I’ve played with him as well for the national team.”

Gabriel sends Coutinho reminder
Given the way his career veered off course after leaving Liverpool for Barcelona, it can be easy to forget just how important Coutinho previously was for Brazil.

Granted, it wasn’t a stellar period for the Selecao, but during the 2018 World Cup for example, the former Reds magician was his country’s most important player, along with Neymar.

MORE LIVERPOOL STORIES
Even in the years after, Coutinho was still a regular in the Brazil squad. But now, having barely featured for Unai Emery at Aston Villa last season and now with Qatari side Al-Duhail, Phil hasn’t played for his country for almost 18 months.

Nevertheless, it’s worth looking back on just how good Coutinho was before his Barca move started to go wrong.

Philippe Coutinho
During his last year or so at Liverpool, he was one of the best players in the Premier League – and was also a favourite of Tottenham’s James Maddison.

Encompassing his enormous transfer to Barcelona in 2018, he scored 22 goals in 42 appearances during the 2017/18 season. For a player who was nominally a midfielder, those are incredible stats.

Even at Barca, where he’s widely seen to have failed pretty miserably, Coutinho scored 21 goals over his first 76 appearances, winning two La Liga titles along the way.

So, although it may sound like a strange choice to some, Coutinho is worthy of being alongside the names Gabriel mentions. He’s one of our favourite ever Brazilians, too.

Liverpool reportedly have Rayan Ait-Nouri on their transfer wish list ahead of the January window.

The 22-year-old is understood to be a target for several clubs who could test Wolves’ resolve in the new year. However, Liverpool are said to be the most interested side.

According to French outlet Le Sport 10, Ait-Nouri has been the subject of “regular and insistent” contact from the Reds. But Wolves have “no intention” to part ways with the left-back.

It is said that regardless of any offers that may arrive during January, Wolves’ stance is clear – they will not be entertained and any move will be “blocked”.

The Algeria international, meanwhile, is focused on the club and working towards securing a place in the next Africa Cup of Nations in mid-January. “I look forward to the CAN, everyone is waiting for it, it’s a dream,” he said.

“I continue to work in a club, and I hope to be selected. When I am in selection, I am a fulfilled boy. Whether in a club or in selection, I always give the best of myself, but in selection, it has a special taste.

“We have goals to achieve, we want to make all the Algerians in the world proud; therefore, we all give ourselves our all. Raising the CAN one day is a dream that I can’t even imagine.”

The left-back arrived at Molineux in 2021 for a fee of around £10million after an initial loan stint from Angers.
