Dave Hendrick: DOGSO, Loopholes & Legoland

On today’s episode of Daily Red on a Wednesday during the dreaded international break Dave looks around the main Liverpool sites for stories to discuss!

DOGSO! The Van Dijk Red Card

Last night Howard Webb joined by Michael Owen on new show Match Officials: Mic’d Up, went through some of the more contentious decisions, including Van Dijk’s red card against Newcastle. Dave goes through the audio released on the show and gives his opinion.

Mic’d Up Reaction

Sanitised nonsense. No challenge to Webb, no tough line of questioning and as though it’s acceptable to ‘overthink’ it.

Startling how bad refs and VAR really is nowadays https://t.co/AaTMCmqnvk

— Dave Davis (@DaveD0106) September 6, 2023

The odd part here is the VAR gives “Tayls” a value judgement of what he’s going to see before he looks at the screen, “minimal contact etc…”. Bad practice in anything that involves reviewing evidence. Either 1. bin the screen review or 2. don’t influence the ref’s view of it https://t.co/AVnwvBYLzx

Mohamed Salah Q&A recap – Paul Gorst answers your questions on ongoing Liverpool transfer saga

Mohamed Salah remains the centre of unwanted transfer attention as the Saudi Arabia deadline day approaches and we’re here to answer any questions you have on Salah and the transfer window.

While the English transfer window closed on Friday, September 1, Liverpool fans are waiting anxiously to see if the Reds will sell Salah for a world-record fee.

It appears as though a delegation from Al-Ittihad are set on making a final £215m effort to sign the Egypt star as they remain in London for what is thought to be discussions over Salah.

According to reports, the Saudi Arabian side are offering £200m, but with add-ons, the transfer would be taken to a world -record figure of £215m.

Liverpool have always insisted, both publicly and privately, that Salah is not for sale but that hasn’t deterred the Saudi club who are now preparing one last push for the Reds’ No.11 before their own deadline on Thursday.

The ECHO’s own LFC correspondent Paul Gorst will be answering your questions on Mo Salah and the rest of the transfer window for the Reds.

Liverpool: The best player in the world is open to joining Klopp next year

Liverpool had a good summer transfer window and an even better start to the season. Although they were on a tight budget, the board did well to recruit in the right areas and avoided losing their best players. Touch wood, Saudi Arabia leaves Mohamed Salah alone.

However, the rumours which link Salah away should come as a reality check to Liverpool. Even if they don’t lose Salah now, the time is near. He isn’t getting any younger and clubs aren’t going to leave him alone in January or next summer. Therefore, Klopp must have his logical cap on and consider his replacements.

To replace Mohamed Salah, you have to consider only the best of the best. There isn’t time to be frugal or cheap with the replacements, you have to fill those big boots with even bigger boots for the sake of the football club.

French forward Kylian Mbappe is open to playing for Liverpool

According to a new report from French outlet L’Equipe, the best player in the world right now, Kylian Mbappe, is open to a move to Liverpool next summer. The report comes from the inevitability of Mbappe leaving Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2024 and looking for a new club.

Certainly, Mbappe would be a great replacement for Salah. While Liverpool fans might not think it’s possible, he would actually be an upgrade. There are obviously the question marks around Mbappe not being proven in the Premier League, but I see this as a myth. As the best player in the world, you are obviously going to perform in the Premier League.

Liverpool should certainly shoot big with this one. While the transfer strategy of signing smaller players and making them big has worked, it’s important that they sign proven quality and ageing at 24 years old, Mbappe could certainly bring his best years to Anfield Stadium. Imagine.

Could you see Kylian Mbappe at Liverpool?
