Transfer news LIVE: Man Utd move for Hojbjerg, Salah’s record Saudi bid, Chelsea’s double Barcelona swoop

We are well into the final week of the 2023 summer transfer window and Premier League clubs are set to complete a series of money-spinning deals.

Manchester United may well be among the most active clubs with their pursuit of a new left-back – with a move favoured for Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella. Boss Erik ten Hag is also pursuing a new midfielder and is targeting Fiorentina star Sofyan Amrabat, with Tottenham’s Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg another name emerging.

Liverpool will be desperate to add to their diminished squad before the end of the window but the future of Mo Salah hangs over the final week amid interest from Saudi club Al-Ittihad, while defender Joe Gomez is also a target of the Middle East state.

Eyes will also be on Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal as they all chase late deals to finalise their squads ahead of the coming months of busy on-field action, before the window closes on Tuesday.

Stay tuned this Tuesday for the latest transfer updates from the Premier League and beyond..

Four days to go

This time on Friday night Big Ben will be chiming, the yellow ticker will be running and you’ll be asked to get overly excited about whoever Burnley have got in on loan. Can’t wait.

That’s it for today. We’ll be back for more transfer goodness in the morning.

Everton to complete Beto signing and targeting Danny Ings

Everton are set to finalise the signing of striker Beto from Udinese for an initial £26 million, and have also asked about the availability of West Ham’s Danny Ings.

Beto, 25, has scored 21 Serie A goals over the past two seasons, and joined the Italian club from Portimonense in Portugal in 2021, initially on a loan deal.

Ings, meanwhile, is playing second fiddle to Michail Antonio at West Ham, and is seen as an experienced forward the Blues can turn to in their search for goals, having failed to net at all yet this season.

Saudi side Al-Ittihad target Joe Gomez

Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Ittihad have targeted ANOTHER Liverpool star, as the moneybags club look to flex their financial muscle.

After making former Anfield midfielder Fabinho an offer he couldn’t refuse, the Saudi club switched their attention to Mo Salah, in an audacious attempt to prise him away from Anfield.

And now England defender Joe Gomez is in their sights, with the Jeddah based club ready to make a serious offer if they receive any encouragement.

Gomez wants more game time this season, after struggling to hold down a regular first team place at Anfield because of a series of injuries in recent years.

So far – as is still the case with Salah – there has been no formal approach to Liverpool for the defender, though his representatives are aware of an interest.

And with West Ham United also showing an interest in Gomez, boss Jurgen Klopp may be forced to fend off a bid for the one player left at Anfield from when he first became manager back in 2015.

The centre-back was a regular under Klopp alongside Virgil van Dijk, but struggled last season, which has forced him to consider his need for more game time, especially as it cost him a place in the England squad.

Gomez is currently considered fourth choice behind Van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate and Joel Matip at Anfield, but with van Dijk suspended for the weekend game against Aston Villa, and Konate injured, Klopp can I’ll afford to let a defender leave.

Divock Origi back to the Premier League?

Divock Origi could be making a return to the Premier League with Burnley, according to a report from the forward’s native Belgium.

The forward left Liverpool after eight years at the club last summer, with his memorable spell including 41 goals in 175 appearances – many of them vital Champions League strikes and goals in Merseyside derbies.

Origi scored just twice in 36 appearances for AC Milan last season, and he is now wanted by his compatriot Vincent Kompany at Turf Moor.

Roma agree Lukaku loan deal

Roma have agreed a deal with Chelsea to take Romelu Lukaku on loan for the season.

The agreement, which is said to be worth around £8m, ends the uncertainty around the Belgian’s future and sees him return to Italy, where he played on loan at Inter Milan last season.

Lukaku will also team up again with Jose Mourinho, who he played under at Manchester United.

Smith Rowe to leave Arsenal for Chelsea?

Arsenal’sEmile Smith Rowe is the subject of shock transfer rumours linking the midfielder with a move to the Gunners’ fierce London rivals Chelsea.

Mauricio Pochettino’s Blues side have already forked out more than £300million this transfer window alone, but could look to add Smith Rowe to their ranks before Friday’s deadline. It is widely believed that the Chelsea boss feels his side still lack something in attack after one win from their opening three Premier League games this term.

As a result, attentions have shifted to Smith Rowe, who has found first-team minutes hard to come by at the Emirates in recent times. Chelsea’s interest in the Gunners academy graduate is by no means advanced and Arsenal may be unwilling to sell altogether, but the fact that it is even a possibility is a damning indictment of how far the England international’s stock has fallen.

ICYMI: Charlton sacked manager

Charlton have parted company with manager Dean Holden, the Sky Bet League One club announced on Sunday night.

The news comes after the Addicks suffered a fourth successive league defeat on Saturday.

The 2-1 loss at Oxford left the club without a point since their victory over Leyton Orient on the opening day of the season.

Holden, a former Bristol City and Oldham manager, took charge at The Valley last December and guided the club from relegation trouble to a 10th-placed finish.

Charlton chairman James Rodwell said: “I would like to thank Dean and his staff for their hard work and dedication and sincerely wish them all the best in their future careers.

“Dean’s work in steering the club clear of relegation last season should not be forgotten, nor his development of many younger players.”

Assistant manager Danny Senda and goalkeeping coach Glyn Shimell have also left the club. Jason Pearce will take over as interim manager.

Perraud heads to France

Southampton have confirmed that defender Romain Perraud has joined Nice on loan for the season.

The 25-year-old was a regular in the Saints team across the last two seasons, playing 59 times in all competitions, but his only outing in the current campaign came in the 3-1 League Cup defeat at Gillingham earlier this month.

Hagi leaves Rangers for Spain

Rangers midfielder Ianis Hagi has joined LaLiga side Alaves on a season-long loan deal.

The Romania international has scored 16 goals in 99 appearances for Rangers but has only made four starts since returning from a serious knee injury in January.

The 24-year-old has made just two substitute appearances this season, coming on in the 89th minute against Servette at Ibrox and playing 33 minutes in the 2-1 Viaplay Cup win against Morton.

A loan departure looked likely after he was left out of Michael Beale’s Champions League squad ahead of the play-off against PSV Eindhoven.

A club statement read: “Everyone at Rangers wishes Ianis well for his loan spell which provides him with a fantastic opportunity for regular football having spent almost a year out through injury.”

Man Utd eye shock raid on Tottenham

Manchester United are considering a surprise move for the Tottenham midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, as per The Telegraph.

Spurs are willing to part with Hojbjerg before Friday’s transfer deadline, with the 28-year-old seeking a move away from north London three years after joining Tottenham from Southampton.

The Danish international had a £30m bid from Atletico Madrid accepted for him earlier this summer, only for the move to collapse over a failure to agree personal terms.

Man Utd’s stance on Maguire

Harry Maguire’s future at Manchester United remains undecided as the summer transfer window reaches its final few days.

Maguire has been the subject of firm interest from West Ham over the past few weeks, but remains a United player. The Hammers agreed a £30million transfer fee with United for earlier in the window and appeared to be on the brink of signing him, only for the move to collapse.

West Ham were ultimately unable to finalise personal terms with the 30-year-old, who has two years left on his £190-000-a-week contract at Old Trafford. With Maguire taking a pay cut to move to east London, United would have had to agree a pay-out for the England international.

Matheus Nunes goes on strike to force Man City move

Matheus Nunes has gone on strike in a bid to force through his move to Manchester City.

Nunes informed Wolves of his intention to stop training and his desire to join City, who are determined to sign the midfielder.

City have had an offer of £50million turned down by Wolves, but are determined to land Nunes and are ready to return with a final bid in the region of £60m, inclusive of add-ons.

The Treble winners want to sign Nunes before Friday’s 11pm transfer deadline, with Wolves having put a £60m valuation on the 25-year-old, which City are now ready to meet.

Wolves will take disciplinary action against Nunes over his refusal to train and – unless a deal is agreed with City – will not bring him back into Gary O’Neil’s first-team squad until after the transfer window shuts.

Nunes joined Wolves from Sporting Lisbon a year ago in a deal worth £42m and is under contract until 2027, with the option for a further year.

City, who are without the injured Kevin De Bruyne and who lost Ilkay Gundogan and Riyad Mahrez this summer, switched their attention to Nunes after failing in their bid to sign Lucas Paqueta from West Ham.

Pep Guardiola wanted to sign Paqueta, but City’s pursuit of the Brazilian midfielder was halted by an FA investigation into the player over alleged breaches of its betting rules.

City have already added defender Josko Gvardiol, midfielder Mateo Kovacic and winger Jeremy Doku, with Nunes set to be their fourth and final signing of the summer.

Klopp considers Salah matter closed

Liverpool have slammed the door shut on any interest in Mo Salah.

With just four days remaining before the Premier League transfer window closes, the club has yet to receive ANY approach of any sort for their star striker.

And with boss Jurgen Klopp emphatic in suggesting the player is simply not for sale at any price, the Reds have made clear they will simply refuse to even acknowledge any approaches as the deadline approaches.

It is understood the Anfield manager is confident that the matter is now closed, with Salah showing he is happy and in form for the Merseyside club, in their dramatic and impressive victory at Newcastle.

Chelsea eye attacking trio

According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea are considering moves for Emile Smith Rowe, Ferran Torres and Raphinha.

The report states that the ‘trio are among the names being discussed by the Chelsea hierarchy’, but ‘interest is not particularly advanced’. Liverpool’s Salah stance

Liverpool have confirmed “nothing has changed” regarding the future of star forward Mo Salah.

The Egyptian forward has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabian side Al-Ittihad over recent weeks. It was claimed that they were willing to make him the highest-paid player in the league – earning more than Cristiano Ronaldo.

Despite the Reds taking a strong stance that he was simply not for sale this late in the window, that has not dampened the confidence in Saudi Arabia. There have been claims that he is keen to make the move and is set to undergo a medical with Ittihad following Liverpool ’s clash with Newcastle at St James’ Park.

The Reds have since responded to those claims. Ahead of the showdown in the north east, members of the Merseyside club are said to have spoken to beINSport and claimed that “nothing has changed” regarding Salah’s future.

Tottenham and Chelsea eye Johnson

Tottenham are now leading the chase for Nottingham Forest forward Brennan Johnson.

Johnson, 22, has also attracted interest from Chelsea and Brentford but Spurs want to strengthen their attacking options before the end of the window. But Forest’s £50million price tag is likely to be a major stumbling block as they look to balance the books on their spending since returning to the Premier League.

Tottenham are likely to be busy in the final days of the window with potential sales as Ange Postecoglou looks to balance the squad. But after selling Harry Kane to Bayern Munich for £100m, they have money to spend and also want forward options.

Johnson is highly regarded and a surprise departure but it will help Forest’s budget and cover their spending. While Postecoglou may have identified Johnson as his priority transfer target ahead of Friday’s deadline, Spurs are still likely to face fierce competition from their Premier League rivals in the race for Johnson.

Gravenberch transfer admission

Ryan Gravenberch has conceded that he “doesn’t know” whether or not he will leave Bayern Munich before Friday night’s transfer deadline.

The Dutch midfielder, 21, has been linked with a move to the Premier League in recent months, with both Liverpool and Manchester United known to be admirers of the former Ajax star.

Gravenberch, who was given his senior debut by Erik ten Hag in Amsterdam, made just three starts in the Bundesliga last season and is keen to play regular football this season. Both Liverpool and United are monitoring Gravenberch’s situation ahead of the transfer deadline – but even the man himself is unsure whether or not he’ll be given the green light to move on.
