Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara will miss the rest of the 2022-2023 season after undergoing surgery on his hip.

The 32-year-old went under the knife to fix a long-term issue with his hip and will miss the remainder of the season while completing his rehab.

Thiago missed Liverpool’s 4-3 win over Tottenham and will be sidelined for their final five Premier League fixtures.

Therefore, Jurgen Klopp will be without Thiago for Liverpool’s games against Fulham, Brentford, Leicester, Aston Villa and Southampton.

Therefore, Thiago will join the likes of Stefan Bajcetic (above) on the sidelines after he was ruled out for the remainder of the season

Bajcetic said it was ‘sad’ to ‘say goodbye to this amazing season’ where he broke into the team

This is not the first we have heard of Thiago’s thigh injury. He injured his quad in Liverpool’s first Premier League game of the season at Fulham.

As a result, Thiago was ruled out of action for a month – causing Klopp all sorts of selection headaches.

However, Mail Sport understands he had minor surgery to correct the issue and prevent any further damage.

That being said, the club don’t anticipate it being a long-term problem by any means and he’ll be expected to report back fit on July 8.

Nevertheless, Thiago will join the likes of Stefan Bajcetic on the sidelines after he was ruled out for the remainder of the season.

The teenager who broke into the first-team this season, missed their Champions League exit to Real Madrid.

Speaking ahead of the game, Klopp described the injury as a ‘stress response around the adductor’.

However, Bajcetic has since confirmed on social media that his injury is severe enough to keep him out for the rest of the campaign.

Thiago linked with transfer return as Feyenoord will’find it hard’to stop Liverpool signing

Welcome to the Liverpool.com daily Media Digest. From transfers to tweets, it can be hard to keep up with everything going on in the Anfield sphere. Barcelona ‘target’ Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcântara

Much has been reported on Liverpool’s need for midfield reinforcements during the summer transfer window. However, there has also been speculation about players being potentially on the move.

One such report involves Thiago Alcântara, and how he could be heading for the exit door this summer. That’s if you believe a report from journalist Jacque Talbot.

According to the report, Barcelona has expressed an interest in signing Thiago during the summer transfer window. The claim does not go any further, other than to say that the 32-year-old’s contract with the Reds is due to expire.

Thiago began his playing career at Barcelona, progressing through the club’s youth ranks before going on to make 100 appearances for the Spanish club. He would leave in 2013 to sign for Bayern Munich, before he, of course, made the switch to Anfield seven years later.

Liverpool.com says: Given the major rebuild that’s needed at Liverpool this summer, especially in midfield, you would think it’s unlikely that the club would consider selling a player as important as Thiago. Jürgen Klopp is a big fan of the Spaniard, and it would take a sizable offer for Liverpool to even think about letting him leave. That being said, his age, injury record and contract length may give the club something to think about should an offer come in from Barcelona.

Liverpool ‘scout’ Eredivisie captain

Liverpool will be looking to sign midfielders this summer, without a doubt. How many will be on their list of targets, though, remains to be seen.

One report has named a player that the Reds have apparently been scouting in recent months. The report comes from Dutch journalist Marcel van der Kraan on the Telegraaf podcast Kick-Off, via SoccerNews.

It has been claimed that Liverpool has sent scouts to watch Feyenoord midfielder and captain Orkun Kökçü. They are not alone in being mentioned in the report, though, with Manchester United, Tottenham, Leicester City, Aston Villa and Brighton also being named as apparently sending officials to watch Kökçü, with Feyenoord set to find it ‘very hard’ to keep the midfielder.

Liverpool.com says: Liverpool is likely to have sent scouts to watch a whole host of midfield prospects over the last few months. With the likelihood of several new players needing to be signed, it’s even more probable that the number of players on the list of potential targets is sizable, to say the least. Whether any of that leads to an actual transfer, though, is another matter.
