Steve Kerr Refused to Address Lakers’ 43 FTAs: “My Mom Is Here Right Now, And I Want To Be On My Best Behaviour”

Following the Golden State Warriors’ 145-144 double-overtime loss to the Los Angeles Lakers, head coach Steve Kerr avoided commenting on the glaring free throw difference between the two teams. Kerr, in a postgame news conference, referred to the Lakers’ 43 free throw attempts compared to the Warriors’ 16, but did not voice his opinions owing to his mother’s attendance.

“I may comment on the free throws they took, but my mother is here right now, and I want to be on my best behavior. So I’m not going to remark on their 43 free throws to our 16. “I’m not going to comment on Steph’s three free throws in 43 minutes.”

Kerr opted not to dive deeper

While Kerr did not go into detail, he did indirectly note the imbalance, implying a potential discrepancy in officiating. The Lakers converted 88 percent of their 43 free throw attempts, while the Warriors connected at 69 percent on their 16 tries.

Despite the disputed free throw scenario, the game came down to a crucial moment when LeBron James hit two free throws with one second remaining in the second overtime period, securing the Lakers’ close victory. The Warriors suffered their fourth loss in five games, bringing their season record to 19-24.

While Kerr’s remarks were muted, they communicated a slight unhappiness with the officiating, leaving opportunity for speculation about the possible influence on the game’s outcome.
