Arsenal fans have had their bubble burst by their side’s recent performances, which has led to poor atmospheres at the Emirates Stadium so far this season, according to journalist Paul Brown.

The north Londoners were praised for their electric atmospheres during last season’s title run, but it appears Arsenal fans have not been able to recreate that this time around. That’s with the addition of Champions League football too, with the Gunners having ended a close to 10-year hiatus from the competition.

But even that doesn’t seem to have captured the imagination of the Arsenal fans just yet, with the Emirates Stadium on a whole having been flat for most of the season.

It was at one point the hottest ticket in town. As Arsenal’s dream of winning the Premier League for the first time since 2004 looked to switch from fantasy to reality, the demand for Emirates Stadium tickets skyrocketed.

So much so, that tickets for the final game of the season were being sold for tens of thousands of pounds, months before the match was even due to take place. It’s claimed some were even going for as much as £53,000 back in March time, such was the desire to be in the Emirates Stadium when Arsenal lifted the Premier League trophy.

Of course, that eventuality didn’t transpire, with Arsenal surrendering the healthy lead they had on top spot to Manchester City, who capitalised on the Gunners’ late-season wobbles to waltz their way to a third Premier League title in a row.

Summer optimism renews Arsenal title hopes
A disappointing pill for Arsenal to swallow, but it didn’t quell the optimism surrounding the club, with many believing they will regroup in the summertime and once again mount a title challenge this season. That was reflected in the club’s summer transfer business, with the Arsenal hierarchy sanctioning a number of big-money moves.

Over £200 million was spent to bring the likes of Kai Havertz, Jurrien Timber and of course, the record British transfer, Declan RIce to the club, with those signings a statement of intent sent towards the rest of the league. While performances and results have been strong at times for Arsenal, it’s fair to say they’re yet to reach the heights they managed last season, with some dubbing that responsible for the Emirates Stadium’s dodgy atmosphere.

Reacting to a viral social media post from an Arsenal fan, journalist Brown shared his thoughts as to why there may have been a dip in the atmosphere at the Emirates Stadium. Pointing towards the crushing end to last season, which saw Arsenal lose out on the title by just five points, the reliable reporter believes Arsenal fans need to be given a reason to get behind their team again this time around:

“I think there was such excitement about Arsenal last season and they really captured the imagination with their run and being top for so long that I think it created a huge surge of emotion and maybe the bubble burst a little bit by the end of the campaign, because they fell away and all that expectation and excitement kind of drained out of the supporters. And now I think they’re waiting to see signs that all of that can be renewed. I think it’s just a bubble bursting really and I think the players and Mikel Arteta need to give them something to get excited about again.”

Still time for Arsenal to rekindle Emirates Stadium atmosphere
With success will naturally come a higher demand for tickets and it’s likely the same people who were contributing to the fever-pitch atmospheres at the Emirates Stadium last season have found it a tougher task to secure tickets this time around. And that’s something which, with time, could easily return to the north London arena.

For the majority of last season, it felt like Arsenal were riding the crest of a wave, with their luck eventually running out when it mattered most. But while the atmosphere at their 60,000-capacity stadium might’ve taken a hit in the early part of the campaign, Arteta’s side are still well-placed in both the Premier League and the Champions League.

Barring a mini-disaster in their final two group matches, Champions League knockout football will be returning to the Emirates Stadium in the new year. While Arsenal also entered the final international break of the year just one point behind leaders Man City in third position.

If they remain there or there about heading into 2024, there is nothing to suggest the Emirates Stadium won’t be back to its old best for the season run-in.

Alexis Mac Allister baffled by “weird” handball decision – “It hit my chest first”

Alexis Mac Allister has described the controversial decision to rule out Jarell Quansah‘s late goal against Toulouse due to his ‘handball’ as “a weird one.”

Quansah looked to have salvaged Liverpool an undeserved point at Toulouse on Thursday night, as he smashed home within a throng for 3-3.

But after a lengthy review, referee Georgi Kabakov first awarded a goal before then chalking it off for a handball in the buildup from Mac Allister.

Mac Allister’s ‘offence’, which saw him chest the ball before it bounced onto his upper arm, came several phases of play before the goal, which left Jurgen Klopp convinced it “100 percent” should have stood.

And speaking to LFCTV after the game, the Argentine admitted it was “weird” to see the referee’s thinking.

“The last situation is a weird one, because the referee said ‘goal’ [after VAR check], then seconds later he changed the decision,” Mac Allister said.

“I don’t know exactly what the rule is, but it first hit my chest. So it’s weird.

“It’s weird, but it’s not an excuse. We didn’t play as well as we know. It’s a fair result.”

Harvey Elliott was another to admit that Liverpool got what they deserved for a second abject performance in a row, but agreed with Mac Allister on the VAR call.

“[I’m] not really too sure, to be honest,” he told LFCTV when asked for his take.

“With VAR and stuff you can never celebrate too early, so we were just waiting around to see what the decision was.

“They gave it and they didn’t give it, so I’m not too sure what’s going on.

“I’m not a referee, I’m just here to play. We were just waiting for the decision and unfortunately it was disallowed.”

Elliott added: “We weren’t really there throughout the whole game, we deserved to not really come away with anything.

“But we just need to keep going, making the right decisions and right choices in the next game, reflect on this one and make sure we put it into the next.”

Luis Diaz has paid tribute to the power of religion after being reunited with his father following his 12-day capture by a Colombian rebel group.

Luis Diaz Manuel, the father of the Liverpool FC forward, was kidnapped alongside his wife, Clienis Marulanda, in his homeland on October 28.

Mrs Marulanda was found just hours after the kidnapping after they were ambushed at a local petrol station but Mr Diaz was not freed until last Thursday after an intervention from the Catholic Church and representatives.

On Tuesday, touching images were released of Reds’ No.7 reuniting with his father after a distressing couple of weeks for the Diaz family. Diaz had returned to Colombia for the first time ahead of his country’s World Cup qualifiers later this month.
Writing on Instagram on Tuesday night, Diaz said: “Thank you God for allowing us to be together as a family.”

The 26-year-old missed Liverpool’s matches against Nottingham Forest and AFC Bournemouth while the search for his father was ongoing in his homeland. However, the forward made a scoring return to Jurgen Klopp’s side during the 1-1 draw with Luton Town earlier this month, connecting with Harvey Elliott’s cross to score a 97th-minute equaliser.

Speaking after his release last week, Mr Diaz revealed he has no intentions to move away from the town of Barrancas despite the kidnap and insisted he has “faith” that the Colombian government will provide him and his family with “security” in the region of La Guajira.

The international break is often a time for players who have not been called up by their national sides to take something of a rest. Players are given some time off to recuperate from what has been an intense start to the season.

With a hectic Christmas schedule coming up, rest is always key. However, the breaks can be used to give an opportunity to play some of the unused senior stars with their youth counterparts in behind-closed-door friendlies.

Mikel Arteta has taken the opportunity to play the likes of Brentford and Watford, locally accessible opponents, in the breaks to help with fitness and tactics. It also keeps those players who have not been training with their countries get sharp and ready for the return of club football.

There is currently no indication whether Arsenal will be conducting one of these games. However, there are a number of senior players with the club and a potential team is available considering the schedule of u21 games are paused until later this month and the return of the UEFA Youth Cup.

With that in mind, football.london takes a look at what a dream behind-closed-doors XI might look like. Naturally, it contains both senior and youth stars, many involved in the recent EFL Trophy defeat to Reading including two of Arteta’s regular Premier League group.

In goal is the man who saved a penalty in that aforementioned game, Ovie Ejeheri who spent time on loan in the Finnish first tier with SJK Seinajoki. Aaron Ramsdale, David Raya and Karl Hein are all away with England, Spain and Estonia respectively.

In defence, the hope will be that Ben White has shaken off the issues which cost him a place in the squad for Burnley last Saturday to play in any potential friendly. He was once again snubbed by the England national side although the injury would have prevented a call-up.

With White, Cedric Soares is the other obvious candidate to play but on the left with Reuell Walters and Zane Monloius continuing on from their appearance against Reading. Walters is no stranger to sharing the field with the first team having played on numerous occasions.

Into midfield and Fabio Vieira who featured against Reading makes sense to get some minutes as he serves a three-match ban for his red card against Burnley. Martin Odegaard was not called up by Norway and the club confirmed he was suffering from a continuing hip injury and concussion with Arteta hopeful he might be back after the break meaning some minutes in a friendly could be a way of easing him back into the action.

The midfield attacking pair would be anchored by Bradley Ibrahim. Ibrahim who got his first senior competitive squad inclusion against Burnley last weekend has impressed in the defensive midfield role and the club have been impressed with his development, football.london understands.

The forward line contains the other Reading participant Reiss Nelson who went viral thanks to his skilful assist for Khayon Edwards who also starts. The forward three is completed by Charles Sagoe Jr. who made his senior debut against Brentford in the League Cup this season.

Luis Diaz Manuel, the father of the Liverpool FC forward, was kidnapped alongside his wife, Clienis Marulanda, in his homeland on October 28.

Mrs Marulanda was found just hours after the kidnapping after they were ambushed at a local petrol station but Mr Diaz was not freed until last Thursday after an intervention from the Catholic Church and representatives.

On Tuesday, touching images were released of Reds’ No.7 reuniting with his father after a distressing couple of weeks for the Diaz family. Diaz had returned to Colombia for the first time ahead of his country’s World Cup qualifiers later this month.
Writing on Instagram on Tuesday night, Diaz said: “Thank you God for allowing us to be together as a family.”

The 26-year-old missed Liverpool’s matches against Nottingham Forest and AFC Bournemouth while the search for his father was ongoing in his homeland. However, the forward made a scoring return to Jurgen Klopp’s side during the 1-1 draw with Luton Town earlier this month, connecting with Harvey Elliott’s cross to score a 97th-minute equaliser.

Speaking after his release last week, Mr Diaz revealed he has no intentions to move away from the town of Barrancas despite the kidnap and insisted he has “faith” that the Colombian government will provide him and his family with “security” in the region of La Guajira.
