Manchester City are planning to hijack Real Madrid’s summer move for River Plate teenager Franco Mastanuono.

The 16-year-old could become Manchester City’s third recent addition from South American giants River Plate, following in the footsteps of striker Julian Alvarez and midfielder Claudio Echeverri.

Alvarez has made over 100 appearances since moving to the Etihad Stadium in 2022, meanwhile Echeverri is expected to complete a switch to east Manchester in January, having signed until 2028 earlier this year for an initial £12.5 million.

Etihad bosses are lining up another potential addition from the Argentinian outfit, with teenage midfielder Franco Mastanuono having emerged as a summer transfer target for Manchester City and the City Football Group.

The 16-year-old has made 18 appearances for River Plate in 2024, including three showings and one goal during the club’s Copa Libertadores campaign.

The attacking midfielder, who can also play out wide, signed a new deal with River Plate in March until 2026, but could complete a major transfer to Europe due to a €45 million release clause within the player’s latest contract.

Real Madrid have already taken steps towards signing the teenager this summer, but have reached an impasse in negotiations with River Plate regarding the midfielder’s transfer fee.

Sport Witness relay claims for Spanish outlet Sport that Manchester City are now considering hijacking the deal, with the Premier League champions willing to ‘blow up’ Mastanuono’s agreement and ‘intensify’ the transfer battle.

Manchester City are reportedly planning an ‘express operation’ to complete a shock transfer swoop and bring the teenager to England instead of Spain this summer.

City and Real Madrid have been involved in a series of battles both on and off the pitch in recent years, with the La Liga outfit knocking Manchester City out of the UEFA Champions League on penalties in April.

Simon Jordan believes “a deal may be struck” regarding Manchester City’s 115 charges for alleged Premier League financial breaches.

Liverpool’s top flight rivals were charged in February 2023 over historical breaches of the league’s Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules between 2009 and 2018. City have strongly denied all charges while an independent commission scrutinises the case.

It has recently been reported that the club are gearing up to take legal action against the Premier League, with reports indicating their intent to dismiss the league’s ‘unlawful’ Associated Party Transaction (APT) regulations.

And now Simon Jordan, former owner of Crystal Palace, has expressed his opinion on talkSPORT. “There is so much at play here. Part of owning a football club is because you are utilising it for some form of influence,” he said.

“There are political things at play here. That is why I think there may well will be a deal struck that means everybody drops hands and some consequence is wreaked upon City and some solution is enabled for the Premier League.”

Premier League chief Richard Masters announced that the hearing concerning this City case would occur in the “near future”. Furthermore, he also certified that he is obligated by top-flight protocols, which prohibit him from disclosing additional information.

City chairman Khaldoon al-Mubarak expressed his frustration during an end-of-season briefing with the club’s internal media. Despite a successful campaign that saw them secure a record-breaking fourth consecutive Premier League title, he has expressed frustration over the allegations.

He said: “Of course, it’s frustrating. The referencing is always frustrating. I feel for our fanbase and everyone associated with the club to have these charges constantly referenced. It’s taking longer than anyone hoped for but there is a process we have to go through. I’ve always repeated, let’s be judged by the facts and not by claims and counterclaims.”

The parent company behind Manchester City are reportedly considering the potential contract cut concerning Uruguayan side Montevideo City Torque.

News of a potential acquisition from the City Football Group was first reported in March 2017, alongside ambitious plans from the part of the global football business to not only construct a new sports complex for the club, but also refurbish their home stadium.

The parent company behind Manchester City are reportedly considering the potential contract cut concerning Uruguayan side Montevideo City Torque.

Formal announcements of a deal would follow in April 2017, alongside an influx of higher-quality players coming into the side and a name change three years into the agreement, as Club Atletico Torque became Montevideo City Torque.

A new club crest, striking similarities with other clubs within the City Football Group, and the completion of a new academy and administrative complex would follow not so long after, however new reports have detailed that the fairytale rise of the club may be coming to an end.

According to the latest report from Torque Info on X, ‘information is spreading’ that the City Football Group would be willing to ‘break the contract’ with Montevideo City Torque, and have their eyes on Central Español within the same city.

While the report clarifies that ‘for now it is just information’, they go on to claim that a separation of Montevideo City and the City Football Group would be due to three key factors: More money was requested and refused, a lack of success, and player training.

As well as the wide-ranging portfolio of clubs owned across all continents, the City Football Group have also expanded into wider business in the sport, taking full ownership of Goals Soccer Centres in February 2020.

Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak recently spoke on the success of the City Football Group as a global sporting model, labelling the project in its current status as a “financial and economic machine”.

“I’m very pleased with the results. These results are very sustainable because we have now a very clear foundation that’s been built over many years,” Al Mubarak explained during his recent end-of-season interview with Manchester City’s official website.

“We have a financial and economic machine. As long as we keep managing well and being prudent, you know that growth in terms of revenue, in terms of profitability, I think we’re on a trajectory that’s been there for years now and continues to go from strength to strength.”

He continued, “Since day one, Sheikh Mansour, as the largest shareholder of the group, has been very focused on growth and value appreciation. And in doing so, every pound of profit has stayed within the group to support growth and development.

“The result of it is we always are investing. We’re always investing in infrastructure, in the development of these clubs. We’re buying new teams. We continue to grow and grow.”

What Man City’s starting XI could look like after £128m spending spree.

Manchester City did not end last season on quite the high they did in the 2022/23 campaign. Almost 12 months ago to the day, the Cityzens lifted the Champions League title for the first time in their history and also sealed a historic treble in the process, however, they could not repeat their heroics last term.

City won the Premier League, their fourth consecutive title, which is the first time someone has achieved that feat. They finished on 91 points, three clear of second-place Arsenal, who fought hard but could not uproot Pep Guardiola’s side for a second straight year. However, that was their only silverware last season.

In the FA Cup, City lost the final to their rivals, Manchester United, while they also Clost their Champions League crown after getting knocked out at the quarter final stage to Real Madrid on penalties. Los Blancos went on to lift the trophy and win their 15th title in the competition.

City will no doubt look to come back stronger this season, and will surely dip into the transfer market to bolster their ranks and look to reclaim their titles.

With that in mind, here’s a look at what Guardiola’s dream starting XI could be ahead of the 2024/25 season, a team full of fluidity and rotations in attack, with a very hard-to-breach defence, a classic Pep team.

Despite rumours linking Ederson with a move to Saudi Arabia over the summer transfer window, it seems like he could well stay at the Etihad Stadium next season, although the 31-year-old has good competition from Stefan Ortega.

The Brazilian was one of only four goalkeepers in the Premier League last season to keep ten or more clean sheets, registering ten, but finished some way behind David Raya of Arsenal, who notched up 16.

The first of the potential new additions to City’s side next season is Bayern Munich and Germany man Joshua Kimmich. As per a Spanish news outlet, City ‘would be in a position to sign him’ over the summer after Barcelona distanced themselves – with a fee of €60m (£51m) having been touted.

With Kyle Walker reaching the twilight of his career, and Kimmich’s versatility making him a super right-back, he could take up this spot for the Cityzens, tucking into midfield in possession to create a balance with the ball.

He has already played under Guardiola before, at Bayern, and he boasts a superb record under the Spaniard. He could take City’s team to new levels, as football analyst Ben Mattinson explained by saying “adding a winner” such as Kimmich “raises the mentality” of a team, making City an even scarier prospect.

Spain international Dani Olmo is a summer transfer target for Premier League champions Manchester City.

Olmo has previously been linked with a return to Barcelona but they are not in a financial position to meet his €60m release clause at RB Leipzig.

However, despite Barcelona dropping out of the race to sign Olmo, other major European sides are still tracking him ahead of the 2024/25 season.

The crucial aspect to any potential move is speed with his exit clause in Germany reportedly only valid until July 15 before an expected increase.

As per the latest update from Mundo Deportivo, City are the current front runners to wrap up a deal, alongside interest from Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich.

The latter are unlikely to pay such a high price but that is not an issue for City or PSG.

Olmo was a La Masia player during Pep Guardiola’s stellar time in charge at Barcelona and the former La Blaugrana boss is an admirer of the versatile winger.

I dont think City really need him at the moment. I prefer getting Bruno G before splashing out on Olmo. Also i think we need some one on the right and a new right back. move walker on captaincy gone too his head and not had a great season

Anthony Gordon has highlighted one Manchester City player he thinks is completely unique.

After scoring 11 goals and delivering 10 assists in 35 Premier League appearances for Newcastle United this season, the winger found himself being included in the England squad for the European Championship.

The attacker even managed to score one of those 11 goals against Pep Guardiola’s side during the Manchester club’s 3-2 win over the Magpies at St. James’ Park back in January.

Ahead of the Three Lions’ opening group game of the tournament against Serbia, the 23-year-old shared his thoughts on one of his fellow Premier League stars, who also will be featuring for his country over the next few weeks.

In a recent video shared on the PFA YouTube channel, Gordon was tasked with building his ultimate dream England forward by picking players based on certain attributes they have.

When asked to pick an English forward player with the best left foot, the Newcastle winger had this to say in response.

He said: “I’ll go with Phil [Foden] because I think Phil, technically, is out of this world. He’s different from the rest of us.”

Foden is one of the most technically gifted players in the world
In 270 senior games for his boyhood side, the 24-year-old has found the back of the net 87 times and provided 53 assists in the process.

This isn’t the first time Foden’s technical ability has been praised by one of his England teammates recently, as Ivan Toney named the City star as the most skilful player in the current Three Lions squad.

In addition to that, Guardiola had this to say to The Independent about Foden’s ability on the ball after City’s 1-0 win over Newcastle back in August.

He said: “He has an incredible ability between the lines. The way he turns and attacks the last lines – it is one of the best I have seen. Every control, he knows exactly what is the goal. He doesn’t need two or three touches to get in the right position to attack the goal. In just one touch he is attacking.”

Now that Gordon has shared how unique the City star is in terms of what he can do on the ball, it’s undeniable that Foden is a special talent and one of the most gifted in world football.

Manchester City have identified Girona striker Artem Dovbyk as a future replacement for Erling Haaland at the Etihad Stadium.

Etihad bosses have been making detailed succession plans in a number of areas focussing on long-term Manchester City transfer targets, with City Football Group’s multi-club network aiding the development of potential future players.

The addition of Erling Haaland in 2022 from Borussia Dortmund for £51 million acted as a replacement for all-time top goalscorer Sergio Aguero, however a £175 million release clause could be triggered for the Norwegian striker in the future.

Manchester City have identified Girona striker Artem Dovbyk as a future replacement for Erling Haaland at the Etihad Stadium.

The 23-year-old has scored 90 goals in 98 appearances since arriving at the Etihad Stadium, with Haaland entering the final two years of his current Manchester City deal in 2025, having penned an initial five-year contract until 2027 upon signing for the Sky Blues.

Manchester City aren’t expecting to lose Haaland in the near future, but have reportedly identified Girona forward Artem Dovbyk as a long-term replacement for the Norway international.

Dovbyk, who was the top goalscorer in La Liga this term, scored 25 goals and registered 10 assists across three competitions for Manchester City’s sister-club in Spain, as Girona successfully qualified for the UEFA Champions League.

The Ukrainian joined Girona last summer but is in talks to complete a move to Atletico Madrid, who are looking to sign a new striker during the transfer window.
