Jurgen Klopp set to name 20-year-old Liverpool youngster in starting XI vs Toulouse

Jurgen Klopp is set to name Harvey Elliott in Liverpool’s starting XI to face Toulouse tomorrow.

The Reds are back in Europa League action as they look to make it three wins from three on Thursday nights.

With a big game to come on Sunday against Nottingham Forest, the team Klopp puts out is likely to be a heavily rotated one. That will give several fringe players the chance to impress, with the Liverpool ECHO claiming that Elliott is ‘expected’ to be one of those brought in.

The 20-year-old was bright in a note-worthy cameo against Everton on Saturday. Elliott has also been in the XI for both of Liverpool’s Europa League games so far. Another chance to impress tomorrow.

Anyone who watched Liverpool’s laborious 2-0 win over Everton on Saturday will agree that this is well deserved for Harvey.

Although he was only on the pitch for little under half-an-hour, the former Fulham youngster was arguably the Reds best player.

Having seen his teammates move the ball slowly and ponderously from the bench, Elliott instantly injected some pace and energy into proceedings. If not for a superb save from Jordan Pickford, he’d have had a brilliant goal to his name, too.

In all honesty, it’s likely that the England U21 international would have started this game regardless of his display at the weekend. For now, he’s very much in Klopp’s Europa XI.

Nevertheless, there is still one spot open in the manager’s Premier League XI, too. Good performances will often be rewarded by Jurgen. Do well tomorrow, and perhaps he’ll find himself in the line-up for Sunday, too.

Klopp has always been keen to let Elliott know that he’s very much in his plans. Back in 2022, the manager labelled the then 19-year-old as being ‘incredible’ and without doubt a part of the first-team squad.

In the year since then, Harvey has made sure that that is without question. But having looked better from the bench this season, tomorrow is now a real chance for him to show that he can be even more important to Liverpool.

Fiorentina star Nicolas Gonzalez has named the club he ‘hopes’ to play for amid speculation linking him with a move to Chelsea and Liverpool.

The 25-year-old is believed to be wanted by the Premier League duo ahead of the summer transfer window.

Gonzalez has made his name in Italy, having starred for Fiorentina. He’s scored 29 goals in 92 appearances for the Italian side and has enjoyed a prolific start to the new season.

He has seven goals to his name this campaign, with his talents attracting clubs in England.

But before a potential switch to the Premier League, Gonzalez, who started his career in his native Argentina, harbours ambitions of playing for River Plate.

“I really want to play for River. I want my brother to see me in that shirt. It would be very special. But today I’m in Europe. One day I hope it will come true,” he told ESPN.

“I wouldn’t go to River for a walk. You have to win everything. I would love to win the Copa Libertadores and the championship. It would be very nice.”

Chelsea and Liverpool are keeping tabs on Gonzalez, who will reportedly command a transfer fee of £52 million.

The Blues remain in the market for new attackers despite splashing the cash during the summer.

As for the Reds, they could be plotting a move for Mohamed Salah’s replacement should he leave Anfield, with Saudi Pro League outfit Al Ittihad set to renew their interest this summer.
