Sad News the owner of Totteham confirmed died, and his funeral is on the 20th Nov

Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou has been told he simply has to start Rodrigo Bentancur now James Maddison is injured.

Craig Burley has been speaking on the ESPN FC Podcast and feels Bentancur would add more creativity to Tottenham’s midfield.

The Uruguayan has recently returned from a lengthy layoff after suffering an ACL injury back in February.

Bentancur has made three appearances from the bench in recent weeks but is yet to start a game under new boss Ange Postecoglou.

Tottenham endured a nightmare six days last week as they suffered back-to-back defeats in the league to Chelsea and Wolves. But the results will be the least of Postecoglou’s worries as he bids to navigate the squad through a difficult period.

Indeed, Micky van de Ven and James Maddison were forced off in the defeat to Chelsea and look set to be out until the new year.

Destiny Udogie and Cristian Romero also missed out on the defeat at Wolves after picking up red cards against Chelsea.

But Spurs were lacking that creative spark against Wolves as Postecoglou opted for a midfield three of Yves Bissouma, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Pape Matar Sarr.

And Craig Burley believes Bentancur has to come into the side to provide more of a threat in the final third.

Postecoglou told to start Bentancur now Maddison is injured
Speaking on ESPN FC, Burley made the case for Bentancur taking up Maddison’s role in the side.

“I think if you’re looking for a bit more creativity, you’re certainly looking at Bentancur,” the pundit said. “Maybe it was a fitness issue because he’s been out a while. He did get some game time in that London Derby.”

He added: “He [Postecoglou] said it himself about the possession they had, they were too conservative. He didn’t like it. He was asked about Maddison. He said ‘look, it is what it is, we’re missing him’.

“Maybe he needs to look at his team selection and his make-up of that – how he can work his way around the deficiencies of not having Maddison and getting other people into the game.”

Bentancur has shown he can provide a threat in the final third for Spurs and popped up with a few goals before picking up an injury last season.

The midfielder arrived at Spurs for a fee worth £19 million back in January 2021 and had been a standout performer under Antonio Conte.

But Postecoglou will be wary of rushing the 26-year-old back too soon after such a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

While Bentancur has many brilliant assets, he isn’t exactly renowned for providing defence-splitting passes either.

In our view, the Uruguay international is more suited to the box-to-box role in Postecoglou’s side while Giovani Lo Celso seems like the natural replacement for Maddison.

‘It’s quite incredible’: Pundit says Man City have an 18-year-old youngster who is an absolutely huge talent

Glenn Hoddle raved about Manchester City wonderkid Rico Lewis ahead of the visitors’ 4-4 draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

The pundit had his say on the 18-year-old on City’s official YouTube channel during the club’s matchday programme ahead of the clash.

Glenn Hoddle showers Rico Lewis with praise
Since breaking into his boyhood club’s first-team last season, the highly-rated defender has proven that he is quite a unique talent.

Gareth Southgate seems to realise the same as it was reported on Monday that the youngster looks set to earn his first senior England call-up.

Glenn Hoddle has detailed why Rico Lewis is well and truly a special young player.

“To be 18 and to be put into that midfield area straightway, Pep [Guardiola] must have seen something in him that he would trust he could do it and he’s now going to get better and better”, Hoddle said on Manchester City’s official matchday programme on Sunday.

“When he plays as a full-back and goes out wide, it must be a doddle for him; he’s only got the linesman behind him!”

Glenn Hoddle also emphasised how impressive it is that Rico Lewis is as versatile as he is.

“It’s not only about playing in different positions, it’s the quality he gives you when he plays in those positions. He’s a nine out of 10 every game. You’re normally waiting for a 28-year-old for that but he’s got such consistency, it’s quite incredible.”

Rico Lewis could reach the very top in several different positions
Glenn Hoddle is spot on and touching on Rico Lewis’ versatility, it is interesting how one could easily foresee him becoming a world-class player in several different positions.

At right-back, the Englishman has shown that he is well capable of playing an inverted role as well as fulfilling more traditional responsibilities.

Defensively, Lewis perhaps has some room for improvement but that could come with time and his physical maturation.

In midfield as well, Rico Lewis has showcased how he looks right at home in a double pivot, operating as a controller.

But in an advanced role, such as against RB Leipzig this term, he has arguably seemed at his finest, highlighting how the treble-winner could reach the absolute top of the game in multiple positions.

‘Salary is scary’ – Club a little frightened about signing Liverpool player
By Sport Witness -13th November 2023

Thiago Alcantara’s Liverpool contract expires at the end of June, and there’s a strong possibility his time with the Reds will be coming to an end.

Yet to appear for Jurgen Klopp’s side this season, the 31-year-old also had multiple injury issues during the last campaign. Whilst the Spaniard’s talent has rarely been questioned, he’s had repeat fitness issues and that’s a big argument against a renewal.

Other clubs may be more optimistic, and TuttoJuve report Inter Milan are keen, with Juventus ‘keeping an eye on things’.
For Inter Milan, it’s stated the player’s ‘salary is scary’, whilst for Juventus the figures involved would be ‘out of reach’.
Despite that stance, it’s clear Thiago won’t be able to demand the same type of package he’s on at Liverpool should he want to stay in European football.

A move elsewhere in the Premier League feels unlikely, again for fitness issues, and the salary level would likely be even more of an issue for most clubs in Spain than it would be for Inter Milan.

So unless Thiago fancies Saudi Arabia or similar, top Italian sides may be able to compete on offer, despite their current pessimism.
