Fabrizio Romano has said that it would prove quite difficult for Tottenham to lure Jonathan David from Lille, not only because of the striker’s price but also because the Ligue 1 club would need to find a replacement for their star man.
It has been widely reported over the last few days that David is one of the names on top of Spurs’ wishlist to replace Harry Kane, alongside Gent’s Gift Orban (Rudy Galetti – GMS).
Despite being just 23 years of age, it feels like the Lille star has already been around for a long time as he first burst onto the scene as a teenager in the Belgian top flight before subsequently making a name for himself in France.

It will be difficult for Spurs to sign Jonathan David
The Canadian international, who scored 26 goals in 40 appearances last season, now looks ready to make the step up to a top club, and Romano has now confirmed that Spurs have been tracking the player for a long time.
However, the journalist insisted that Lille will demand €60m (£51.4m) for the centre-forward and might not want to let him go so late in the transfer window as there is barely any time to bring in a replacement.
Romano told GiveMeSport: “Jonathan David is a player they’ve (Spurs) been tracking for a long time, but it’s a complicated one because of the price. I’m hearing that Lille want something around €60m.
“They started from €65m but that now could be around €60m to sell Jonathan David, but also, they would need a replacement. So, in this case, timing is crucial, and it’s not going to be an easy one.”

It is a little worrying that Tottenham are still struggling to get their unwanted players out of the door. The North London club will be in trouble if Gent and Lille decide to considerably raise their demands for Orban and David respectively in the final few days of the transfer window.

Manchester United linked with Tottenham Hotspur left-back Ivan Perisic
The report has claimed that United have made contact with the agent of Perisic in a bid to try to do a loan deal for the left-back.
However, the Croatian’s representative has knocked back United’s approach and has not encouraged the former Premier League and UEFA Champions League winners to contact Tottenham.
Interestingly, United are also trying to sign Perisic’s Tottenham teammate and fellow left-back Sergio Reguilon.
According to The Manchester Evening News, United are looking into the possibility of signing Reguilon in the final days of the summer transfer window.
Luke Shaw is injured at the moment, and United manager Erik ten Hag is looking for cover.
It is interesting that United are trying to sign Reguilon and/or Perisic.
Neither of the two players appears likely to be a regular for Tottenham under head coach Ange Postecoglou this season.
Perisic has made three substitute appearances in the Premier League this season, playing a total of 67 minutes.
Reguilon is yet to make an appearance in the Premier League for Spurs this campaign.
Destiny Udogie is the clear number one left-back for Tottenham at the moment.
The 20-year-old Italian has played in all three Premier League matches for Spurs this campaign, providing one assist in the process.
