Everton have reportedly made an enquiry over out-of-favour Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

The 28-year-old spent the second half of the season on loan at West Ham but struggled to rediscover his form. He made just eight appearances for then-manager David Moyes and his future at the Etihad remains uncertain.

Phillips endured a nightmare period at City after managing just 10 appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side in the first half of the campaign. After failing to take his chance during three games when Rodri was suspended, the City boss admitted that he struggled to see Phillips in his City team.

The Toffees’ interest meanwhile, emerged in January but their relegation battle put them at a disadvantage to West Ham. It had also been suggested that Leeds United wanted to bring him back to Elland Road, but it is unlikely after failing to get promoted to the Premier League.

According to the Daily Mail, Sean Dyche is focussed on rebuilding their midfield with Andre Gomes leaving Merseyside this summer, while Dele Alli’s future is still unclear. With that said, a number of enquiries have been made to clubs and Phillips is said to have been one of them.

Elsewhere, Portsmouth are confident of bringing back Alex Robertson on loan. The 21-year-old spent last season at Fratton Park at the newly-promoted Championship side, making 27 appearances in all competitions.

He was a key figure for Portsmouth’s midfield until a hamstring injury cut his campaign short. Although the club would like to bring him back for a second successive stint, Australian news outlet FTBL claim Robertson is also wanted by Everton and several unnamed clubs from the Championship and the Premier League.

When asked about whether Pompey could secure another loan for him, boss John Mousinho told The Portsmouth News: “I think so [Pompey could offer what Manchester City would want from a loan]. From our point of view we’ve put ourselves in the best possible position we can. There’s nothing more we can do on that.”

Though it remains to be seen whether Robertson will be part of City’s pre-season plans. “For Alex and Man City it will probably be one where we will wait until mid-to-late pre-season to see what their intentions are with Alex, and then we will go from there,” Mousinho added. “It wouldn’t surprise me massively if Alex is a part of their first-team plans in pre-season and it’s a decision they make later on.”
