Report: Tanguy Ndombele informs Napoli of his surprise Tottenham decision

Tanguy Ndombele is keen to revive his career at Tottenham Hotspur following a loan spell at Napoli, according to French news outlet FootMercato.

Ndombele joined Tottenham for a club record £63 million from Lyon in July 2019 but the move failed to live up to either party’s expectations (Sky Sports).

Ndombele made 91 appearances in all competitions for Tottenham, scoring 10 goals, but fell out of favour under Antonio Conte when he was booed off by his own fans in the FA Cup match against Morecambe in January 2021 (The Sun).

The boos came as a result of Spurs 1-0 down at the time to the League One side, Ndombele decided to amble off the pitch with Harry Kane and Japhet Tanganga urging him to move faster when taken off by Conte in the second half and did not play for the club again after the incident.

He returned to former club Lyon for the second half of the 2021/22 campaign, where he played 15 times, scoring once with the Ligue 1 outfit passed on the opportunity to sign him on a permanent basis (transfermarkt).

Ndombele joined Napoli in the summer and helped Luciano Spaletti’s side to lift their first Serie A title since the days of Diego Maradona and made 40 outings across all competitions, scoring two goals.

The report claims that the midfielder was asked by Napoli about his future with the Italian outfit having the option to make the deal permanent and has respectfully told them that he now wants to head back to Tottenham, where he remains under contract until the summer of 2023.

Tanguy Ndombele may not exactly get his wish if Tottenham decide to try to cash in with just twelve months to run on his current deal, coupled with the fact he is one of the club’s biggest earners.

Whether the next head coach will get a say in Ndombele’s future is not yet know, or if they instead look to other creative influences who are available such as Leciester City’s James Maddison.

Report: England international wants assurances over Kane’s future before making decision on a potential move
According to Football Transfers, Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford wants guarantees that Harry Kane would stay at Tottenham before he might agree to a transfer to North London.

Hugo Lloris’ admission a few days ago that he wants a new challenge after 11 years in North London has made it rather obvious that Spurs would look to sign a new starting goalkeeper this summer (Nice-Matin).

Pickford is one of the candidates on Tottenham’s radar, according to Fabrizio Romano, who also said on the Here We Go Podcast a few days ago that the goalie is waiting for the Lilywhites to resolve their managerial crisis first.

In order to explore the possibilities of a move to N17, Spurs reportedly reached out to Everton and the England number one’s support group.

According to the source, Tottenham has been told that they must pay £40 million to bring in the goalkeeper.

The article continues that before deciding on his future, Pickford wants to know if his England teammate, Kane, will still be playing for the club in addition to waiting for Spurs to name a new head coach.

Our View

This may highlight the fact that, despite the fact that Kane just has one year left on his deal, Spurs may be reluctant to lose him this summer. Selling Kane would significantly reduce the club’s appeal to potential new recruits.

Many offers may be available for players like Maddison, Pickford, and Guehi, and they might not want to take the chance of joining a team that appears to be in decline.
