According to reporter Christian Falk, Bayern Munich is concerned that if they don’t start winning more trophies, they would lose Jamal Musiala, who is linked to Manchester City. The Bundesliga powerhouses were eliminated from the Champions League and lost to Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen for the championship and DFB-Pokal in the previous campaign.
City could see Musiala as a potential long-term option for them as they look to continue their dominance in England. Pep Guardiola’s side are gunning for another Premier League next season. Kevin de Bruyne’s future beyond the expiration of his contract in 2025 is yet to be known. Therefore, the North West outfit will be considering alternatives.
Musiala, who is 21-years-old, is being tipped for a bright future in the game. He caught the eye at Euro 2024 recently with the Germany national team.In this latest update regarding his situation, journalist Falk has told CaughtOffside: “Bayern do have one additional concern in Jamal Musiala – they don’t want to lose their big talent. However, if (Joshua) Kimmich and (Alphonso) Davies leaves, the level of the team will suffer as a result, which is a point of concern for Musiala; he wants a team like Jude Bellingham has at Real Madrid where you can compete for the Champions League title every year. So, Bayern Munich has to do something if they don’t want to lose him,
“There is an idea at Manchester City to try and sign him as the successor of Kevin De Bruyne. I don’t know if the Belgian international will leave this summer or in the next, but the story of De Bruyne at Manchester City is coming to an end. Musiala grew up in England and I think he’s always got one eye on the Premier League, so this would be the next big danger for Bayern Munich. If they lose him and didn’t sign Xavi Simons, then they would have to go for Florian Wirtz, which would be very expensive.”
Musiala played in Southampton and Chelsea’s academy before joining Bayern in 2019. He has since broken into the first-team at the Allianz Arena and has become a key player.
The prospect has made 163 appearances in all competitions to date and has scored 43 goals, 12 of which came last term. His contract expires in June 2026 and he is valued at £110million.
His chances of a move to City may depend on De Bruyne’s situation. On that front, Guardiola has said: “Kevin is not going. If someone leaves, we’re going to talk about that. Of course, until the last day, we have chances (to make transfers), I don’t rule out the option to have new players but I think there is an 85/90 per cent chance we will have the same squad.
I feel comfortable, because the quality of human beings we have in the squad is difficult to be replaced, and the quality is there. But we’ll see, I don’t know in the last moment if someone comes for some players and they leave, we’re going to decide.
