When PIF bought Newcastle United in 2021, it became immediately clear that they had big plans for the club.

PIF wanted the best staff, the best manager and the best players, all pulling together to compete for the top honours.

The ambitious project at Newcastle led to links with the biggest names on the planet, some of which were never going to sign for the Magpies.

Instead, the owners created a recruitment strategy that was smarter than simply signing the players with the biggest reputations.

As well as the right people on the pitch, Newcastle wanted the right people behind the scenes. We have now got Darren Eales as CEO, and Dan Ashworth as Sporting Director.

Getting the latter was a big coup, as Ashworth is a real master when it comes to building an identity and ensuring his philosophy is fulfilled.

He was a great hire, but he was not the only major name who Newcastle tried to appoint.

Another candidate to become Newcastle’s director of football was Michael Emenalo. The former Chelsea and Monaco chief was heavily linked with the role shortly after the takeover, and was someone who excited fans.

He has a great reputation in the transfer market, building some brilliant teams that have achieved great things. Emenalo brought the likes of Eden Hazard, Kevin De Bruyne and Mo Salah to Chelsea, who won the lot during his time as Technical Director at Stamford Bridge.

The Nigerian would have been a great appointment for Newcastle, and he actually held talks with the owners in Saudi Arabia about working at St James’ Park.

However, an agreement was not forthcoming and the Magpies eventually went with Ashworth, who arrived last summer.

One year on and the former Brighton man is doing brilliant work on Tyneside, while Emenalo is set for a new job that has major ties to the Newcastle owners.

Emenalo set for Saudi Pro League job
According to the Athletic, Emenalo is set to become director of football for the Saudi Pro League.

The top flight of Saudi Arabian football is receiving a facelift this summer, with some of Europe’s biggest names taking their careers to the Middle East – thanks to investment from PIF.

The Athletic state that Emenalo will be responsible for ‘helping the SPL develop frameworks and applying the kind of principles that are seen in the world’s biggest divisions’.

In short, it will be his job to help develop the division as it looks to enhance its reputation and reach the same standard of Europe’s major leagues.

Emenalo’s 2021 talks with PIF did not land him a job in Newcastle, but now he is set for a major role in Saudi Arabia.

Belief club have done Newcastle deal to improve relationship – Transfer ‘a service of friendship’

Feyenoord have only signed Yakuba Minteh from Newcastle this summer to improve their relationship with the Magpies for the future.

That’s according to analyst Aad de Mos, who believes the Dutch side have no real interest in the 18-year-old.

Minteh joined Newcastle in an €8m deal from Odense on July 1st but was immediately loaned out to Feyenoord for the season a day later.

He’ll spend the campaign on loan with the Dutch champions, with the hope at Newcastle that he can spend a year getting regular game time under Arne Slot that will aid his development.

The transfer does not include an option for Feyenoord to make the move a permanent one at the end of the season, a hint perhaps that Newcastle have high hopes for the player moving forwards and will want him back at St James Park next year.
Whether he can be a success at Feyenoord remains to be seen but De Mos believes they won’t care either way as this deal was only sanctioned with other plans in mind.

“It could be that they want to sort out the relationship with Newcastle United,” he said.

“I also understand that Te Kloese has learnt something from Newcastle, by appointing a manager to supervise the players who are let out. I think that’s more of a service of friendship to just watch.

“It costs almost nothing, so you can take that risk. Slot has already indicated that it won’t be a permanent fixture but wants to give him a chance.”

Newcastle United are hoping to bring in defensive reinforcements this summer, and Disasi could prove to be a superb acquisition. The 25-year-old Frenchman has proven himself with AS Monaco and will look to take the next step in his career. Recent reports suggested the Magpies were already in touch with the player’s entourage.

Regular football in the Premier League could help him cement his place in the national team as well. Apparently, Manchester United are keen on signing the defender as well and they have been heavily linked with the player over the last few months.

The defender is reportedly valued between €45-50 million, and both clubs should be able to afford the asking price. Newcastle United and Manchester United have both secured UEFA Champions League qualification for the next season, and they will be attractive destinations for the French international defender.

It will be interesting to see which of the two clubs manage to secure an agreement with AS Monaco now. But with Newcastle United agreeing personal terms with the Frenchman, Manchester United have an uphill task.

Newcastle United have an ambitious project and will be looking to improve their squad further. They have already pulled off an ambitious move to sign Sandro Tonali to improve their midfield. The Tyneside outfit should thus look to improve their defence and attack as well.

Signing Disasi will help improve their defensive unit greatly. Newcastle already had one of the best defensive units in the Premier League last season, and the 25-year-old Frenchman will help them improve further. The Magpies will be competing in the Champions League next year and need better quality players to do well against the European elite.

Disasi could partner Sven Botman at the heart of the Newcastle United defence for the foreseeable future. It remains to be seen whether the player joins the Magpies over Manchester United if both clubs end up submitting an offer for him in the coming weeks.

Newcastle will have to pay it.

Now, of course, the Premier League club will surely negotiate and try to lower that fee.

And Juventus could come to a comprise if Chiesa himself wants to leave for Newcastle, who recently signed his Italy international teammate Sandro Tonali from AC Milan.
