Manchester City’s summer transfer window has yet to spark into life but it is unlikely that any supporter of Pep Guardiola’s side will be worried.

The Catalan head coach has gained the trust of all those associated with the Etihad Stadium for bringing in excellent talent with plenty more hits than misses. That being said, City fans have also had to learn the art of patience at times as some deals are certainly not done quickly.

This window appears to be another one where City are biding their time but that does not mean they have avoided being linked with players. In our latest look at the media headlines, we analyse two deals which could have gone through but fortunately haven’t.
The report adds that City are in the market for a world-class winger this summer.

What MEN Sport says: Olise is an extremely talented winger but should City be trying to sign a player in that position at this stage? Currently they have an abundance of wingers at the club. Perhaps his signature would have signaled Jack Grealish’s departure but it feels like the former Aston Villa man still has something to offer the Blues. Truthfully, it feels City have more pressing concerns than bringing a winger to the club – chiefly defensive midfield.

City tried to hijack Bayern Munich transfer
According to Football Insider, City tried a last-ditch attempt to block Bayern Munich’s £60m transfer for Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise. It is believed the Blues contacted Olise’s camp to try and bring him to the Etihad Stadium but their attempts were unsuccessful.

Back-up goalkeeper rejects City
According to HITC, Southampton’s veteran goalkeeper Alex McCarthy has rejected the opportunity to sign for City and Liverpool this summer. The 34-year-old was approached as the Blues looked to add a second choice goalkeeper to their ranks.

McCarthy made just nine appearances for the Championship club last summer as they gained promotion back to the Premier League at the first attempt.

What MEN Sport says: This approach for McCarthy seems more left-field than it initially seems on the surface. Bringing in a veteran English goalkeeper is not beyond City considering Scott Carson is at the club but he has just signed a new contract. Ederson and Stefan Ortega are under contract too with the latter also recently signing a new deal. This begs the question as to why McCarthy was being targeted unless, 1) Carson is planning to retire imminently or 2) Ederson’s interest from the Saudi Pro League is more serious than we thought.
