OPINION I spoke to Fernando Torres at the Liverpool match and he couldn’t believe what he was seeing
John Aldridge is full of praise for three players after Liverpool’s win over Brighton, but was unimpressed with the referee in the first half of his weekly

Roberto De Zerbi embraces Jurgen Klopp prior to the Premier League match between Liverpool FC and Brighton & Hove Albion at Anfield

Sometimes when you play against your old team, you can get mixed up a little bit with your emotions.

You’re playing against friends, yet Alexis Mac Allister probably had one of his best games of the season against Brighton.

I thought he was excellent. He’s settled in now. Don’t get me wrong, he’s been playing well all season, he’s a World Cup winner.

£35m?! You’re joking, aren’t you?! Look at what Chelsea have been paying for players, that is unbelievable business.

He’s grounded, he’s got every attribute that you want. He’s got great vision and his long-range shooting is brilliant. He was man of the match without a doubt.

Young Conor Bradley again did really, really well too. Brighton pinpointed our right-hand side with the two young lads, him and Quansah, and they did get in a few times.

But that was only because of how we attack. We left ourselves susceptible to the counter-attack.

Quansah, if I’m nit-picking for their goal, shouldn’t have let him run all the way into the box. But the lad still had a super game.

He’s a star and I thought the two of them were excellent. What you’ve got to do when you’re young, you’ve got to learn from the little mistakes that you make. They’re only babies. Whatever mistakes they make, they’ve got to be highlighted so they don’t make them again.

They are two future stars for Liverpool and they’re going to save the club millions, I really think so.

Liverpool can’t keep falling behind

There are some great things we can take out of the win over Brighton. There are some really good things, but there was also just a lack of finishing.

Nunez had a really quiet game and on another day, Mo Salah should score at least a hat-trick. But it’s all about getting the points and that’s what Liverpool did.

We got the three points, even though we had to come back from falling behind once again. We’ve done it so many times now, going a goal down. It’s been far too often and you can’t always get away with that.

It’ll go against you somewhere down the line. But it shows you what the lads have got, the resilience when they fall behind and the confidence that they can get back in the game and win the game.

You don’t want to see it too often, the slow starts. We’ve done it a few times, and, so far, gotten out of it a few times too. You can’t knock it though. Three points, happy days!

David Coote needs to dropped after shocking display

It was shocking from the referee on Sunday. We go on about referees and VAR, this Coote is notorious, he keeps on persisting in doing things against Liverpool that make you tear your hair out thinking, ‘What’s that all about?’

There were two decisions against Brighton that he didn’t even see what happened. He waited three or four seconds and then still gave the decision. One of them, he had his back towards play! He didn’t see it! What the f**k?

To be fair, he didn’t do Brighton any good either! When he’s been on VAR, he’s cost us quite a few times in the past too.

I asked Fernando Torres and Fabio Aurelio, who were at the game. I asked them, ‘What do you think of the referee?’ They said, ‘F**king hell,’ in Spanish. Unbelievably bad.

And they’re not biased like I can be. I asked them just for their honest opinion and they couldn’t believe how bad he was, so that tells you.

He didn’t give any really contentious decisions, probably a penalty call he didn’t give for Liverpool for the little pull back on Nunez, but he was just inept.

He needs to be dropped on that appearance, he was shocking. And Brighton fans will probably say the same!

Liverpool star set for ‘bigger deal than Salah and Van Dijk’
Date: 1st April 2024 at 4:14pm
Written by: Author
Liverpool moved top of the Premier League table with a 2-1 victory over Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday.

The Seagulls took a surprise lead at Anfield courtesy of Danny Welbeck’s early goal, before Luis Diaz drew the Reds level.

Talisman Mohamed Salah then put Jurgen Klopp’s side in front after the break, and they held on to secure a crucial three points.

The result moved Liverpool top of the standings, above Arsenal who drew 0-0 with third-placed Manchester City later on Sunday afternoon.

Manager Klopp will be desperate to see his side lift the league title during his final season in charge of the club, with the German set to depart Merseyside this summer.

It appears, though, that those in charge of the club are working off the pitch to secure a key player’s future.

As per Football Insider, full-back Trent Alexander Arnold is in line for a huge new deal with the club.

Alexander-Arnold recently made his 300th appearance for Liverpool

The report claims that the right-back is set to be rewarded with a new contract that will be bigger than both Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk’s respective current deals.

Alexander-Arnold, 25, has made more than 300 appearances for his boyhood club across all competitions, having graduated from Liverpool’s youth academy.

He has scored 18 goals in that time, as well as providing 82 assists.

The defender’s current contract is set to expire at the end of next season, but the report claims that talks over an extension are scheduled for this summer, with Alexander-Arnold himself very keen to commit his long-term future to the club.

The England international is said to currently earn around £180,000-per-week, but he is likely to earn a significant pay rise when he puts pen to paper on a new deal.

FABRIZIO ROMANO NAMES SURPRISE CANDIDATE FOR LIVERPOOL JOB

LIVERPOOL’S MANAGERIAL HUNT: INZAGHI’S INTRIGUE AMIDST SPECULATION
In the whirlwind of football, where the pitch battles fade into the backdrop of managerial sagas, Liverpool finds itself at the heart of an intriguing narrative. The end of an era looms as Jurgen Klopp’s iconic tenure nears its twilight, propelling the Reds into a quest for a successor capable of inheriting a legacy as rich as the Anfield folklore itself. The Daily Briefing has shed light on this unfolding drama, pointing towards a figure emerging from the shadows of speculation: Simone Inzaghi.

ANFIELD’S ANTICIPATION AND INZAGHI’S ITALIAN RENAISSANCE
As the Premier League intensifies, Liverpool’s quest for silverware continues unabated, with a recent victory over Brighton reaffirming their title ambitions. Yet, the buzz of triumph is tinged with the suspense of the unknown, as Xabi Alonso’s disassociation from the managerial role leaves a void filled with whispers and conjecture. Amidst this, Simone Inzaghi’s name has surfaced, weaving a narrative of potential and promise.

Inzaghi, at the helm of Inter Milan, has sculpted a narrative of success, transforming the Nerazzurri into a formidable force in Serie A. His journey from a “cup specialist” to a tactician capable of orchestrating league dominion underscores a maturity and depth, qualities Liverpool seeks in Klopp’s successor. However, as The Daily Briefing articulates through the insights of journalist Fabrizio Romano, the connection between Inzaghi and Liverpool remains shrouded in speculation rather than substance.

SEPARATING FACT FROM FICTION: ROMANO’S REVELATIONS
Fabrizio Romano, a name synonymous with the pulse of football’s transfer sagas, brings a measured perspective to the whirlpool of rumours. “Another name for the Liverpool job coming up in reports is Simone Inzaghi,” Romano elucidates, tempering excitement with the reality that Inzaghi’s focus remains riveted on Inter’s Scudetto aspirations. Moreover, with a new deal from Inter on the horizon, the narrative of Inzaghi’s departure seems more fiction than fact.

LIVERPOOL’S SEARCH CONTINUES: THE QUEST FOR KLOPP’S HEIR
Liverpool’s managerial hunt is more than a search for a tactician; it is a quest for someone who can carry forward a legacy, intertwining success with the ethos that defines Anfield. Inzaghi, with his commendable track record and evolving tactical acumen, emerges as a figure of interest in this narrative. Yet, as Romano’s insights suggest, the Reds might need to navigate through the realm of speculation with caution, focusing on candidates where interest converges with possibility.

Inzaghi’s achievements with Lazio and now Inter showcase a trajectory of growth and adaptability, marking him as a figure capable of stepping into the vastness of Klopp’s legacy. Yet, with Inter keen on retaining his services, Liverpool’s gaze may need to shift, exploring avenues where the potential for collaboration aligns more closely with reality.

CONCLUSION: AN ERA AWAITS ITS NEXT CHAPTER
As Liverpool strides forward, the silhouette of Jurgen Klopp’s tenure casts a long shadow, filled with memories of triumphs and tales of resilience. The quest for his successor is not merely about finding a manager but about discovering a steward for a legacy that resonates beyond the confines of Anfield. Simone Inzaghi, amidst the swirl of speculation, represents a chapter yet unwritten in this saga. As the narrative unfolds, Liverpool’s next chapter awaits its author, in a story where ambition, legacy, and the heart of football converge.

Jurgen Klopp says he absolutely loved what he saw Wataru Endo do on the pitch after yesterday’s win over Brighton

Easter Sunday had the potential to be a damaging day for Liverpool in the Premier League title race.

A tricky looking visit of Brighton got off to the worst possible start when Danny Welbeck fired the Seagulls ahead inside two minutes.

Arsenal and Manchester City – set to meet later on at the Etihad Stadium – must have been licking their lips. But from there, Liverpool resurrected themselves; Alexis Mac Allister the architect of another come-from-behind victory.

Mac Allister wasn’t alone in his excellence, mind you. The Reds midfield on the day was brilliant as a whole. Dominik Szoboszlai earned special praise from Jurgen Klopp post-game and he’d earned it.

But the manager also had some words of admiration for what he’d seen from Wataru Endo. He and Mac Allister especially have formed a wonderful partnership, and Klopp has just put that into context in his own hilarious way.

Wataru Endo
Jurgen Klopp calls for Wataru Endo movie
Part of the reason Liverpool fans are going to miss Klopp so dearly is because of his ability to deliver some quite brilliant one-liners.

The 56-year-old is a unique character. At times his persona appears to enrage opposition fans but he’ll make few apologies for it. Jurgen simply doesn’t care what anybody except Liverpool supporters think of him.

MORE LIVERPOOL STORIES
And it’s quotes like the one he gave about Endo and Mac Allister while speaking to LFCTV yesterday that will live long in the memory.

The pair have indeed become synonymous with each other on the pitch. After the draw against Manchester City in March, Endo admitted that he and Mac Allister are ‘always looking’ for each other during games. And according to Klopp, the duo continue searching for one another after them, too.

“When I saw after the game when I went to the Kop, in front of me were Macca and Endo, they got eye contact. How they looked at each other, wow!” laughed the boss.

“You could probably easily make a 95-minute movie, a love movie about it, that was so great! They really enjoy playing with each other now.”

Endo and Mac Allister continue to click
This is a brilliant quip from Klopp that may well leave Endo and Mac Allister a little embarrassed. But it’s obvious that the two are loving being in the same team.

From Macca’s point of view, having the Japanese sitting in the No.6 role has finally allowed him to fully express himself in a Liverpool shirt.

Previously doing that job himself, Mac Allister now no longer needs to worry as much about his defensive duties. He still performs them, no doubt about that, but Endo is the man who does the heavy lifting. The benefits of that have become clear, with the World Cup winner providing eight goal contributions in his last nine games.

According to Klopp, Mac Allister simply ‘loves’ playing for Liverpool right now. Judging from Jurgen’s latest comments, there’s one teammate who’s holding his affection more than any other.

Manchester United have confirmed the appointment of Omar Berrada as their new CEO.

“The Club is determined to put football and performance on the pitch back at the heart of everything we do. Omar’s appointment represents the first step on this journey,” United said in a statement.

ADVERTISMENT
“As one of the most experienced football executives at the top of European football, Omar brings a wealth of football and commercial expertise, with a proven record of successful leadership and a passion to help lead change across the Club. He is currently serving as Chief Football Operations Officer for City Football Group overseeing 11 clubs across five continents and, prior to this, held senior roles at Barcelona.

“It is our stated ambition to re-establish Manchester United as a title-winning club. We are pleased that Omar will be joining us to help achieve that goal, so that, once again, United fans can see, in the words of Sir Matt Busby, the red flag flying high at the summit of English, European and world football.

PSG identify Leao as a replacement for Mbappe
WHAT HAPPENED?
Mbappe has reportedly ruled out a move to the Premier League next summer, according to journalist Rudy Galetti. The Frenchman, who is supposed to disclose his final decision before PSG play their Champions League round of 16 match, will choose between his current club and Real Madrid. PSG have offered Mbappe a new contract which will keep him at the club until 2027.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
If the France captain decides to move away from the Ligue 1 club, they have already identified AC Milan star Rafael Leao as a possible replacement for the attacker. Manchester City and Manchester United are also keen on roping in the Portuguese winger although his €175 million (£150m/$189m) release clause could be a problem in him heading to England.

DID YOU KNOW?
Earlier this week, it was reported that the 25-year-old has “many doubts” about leaving his homeland. He is the star attraction at PSG and will be placed at the centre of all future plans in Paris and it has been claimed that he will have to accept a significant pay cut to join Madrid.

For now, the winger remains fully focused on his current club and will be next seen in action for Luis Enrique’s side on Friday in a Ligue 1 clash against Strasbourg.

KEVIN DE BRUYNE was in tears as a black eye ended his Champions League final after a grim clash with Antonio Rudiger in Chelsea’s 1-0 win.

Star playmaker KDB soon headed down the tunnel after being helped off and replaced by Gabriel Jesus on the hour in Porto.

The midfielder departed gingerly and stooped over seemingly in pain and despair as boss Pep Guardiola consoled him.

Chelsea were deservedly holding onto Kai Havertz’s 42nd counter-attacking finish, following Mason Mount’s delightful through-pass.

And City’s mood dipped even further when KDB was the victim of a heavy challenge from Rudiger that earned the Germany centre-back a booking.

City’s medical staff dashed on, while team-mate Kyle Walker remained kneeling beside De Bruyne throughout the time the Belgian was down being treated.

The way KDB kept his head down as City officials put their hands around him, and especially the fact he then went down the tunnel, sparked early Euro 2020 fitness fears.

Fans on social media were gutted for De Bruyne, although some suggested his display had been well below par.

And City’s anguish was confirmed as Stamford Bridge chief Thomas Tuchel’s masterly tactics kept them out, including for seven minutes of stoppage time.
