The Magpies have serious competition for one reported transfer target.

Former Scotland striker Kenny Miller has described Newcastle United target Kieran Tierney as ‘world class’ and believes the defender should leave Arsenal this summer.

The Gunners left-back has been consistently linked with a move to St James Park in recent months after struggling to find a regular spot in Mikel Arteta’s side last season. There have been reports suggesting talks have been held between the Magpies hierarchy and their Arsenal counterparts but an agreement on a fee for Tierney is still some distance away.

Manchester City and Aston Villa are also said to be showing an interest in the former Celtic star but Newcastle are believed to be the front-runners to secure his services as the Magpies look to strengthen their options at left-back ahead of their return to the Champions League.

Tierney has shown plenty of ability at the highest level during his time at Celtic and Arsenal and he has shone at international level in earning 38 caps with Scotland. Former Celtic and Rangers striker Miller is not surprised the 26-year-old has ‘a number of options’ and believes he is too good to be a squad player no matter where he starts next season.

“I think he probably needs to now,” former Scotland forward Miller told BBC Scotland’s Sportsound.

“When he plays, he’s a world class left-back. To play regular football, he probably needs to step away from Arsenal. There will be lots and lots of teams that will take it. He’ll have loads of potential suitors. If he moves, he’ll have a number of options. If he’s not going to be getting a game, he’s too good to sitting as part of a squad.”

“It doesn’t seem to affect his performances at an international level,” Miller said on Tierney’s lack of game time at Arsenal.

“When you’re playing week in, week out, there’s maybe just a different edge to your game. I think there’s potentially more in him from what we’ve seen.

“He’s one of our best players. A move to Newcastle with everything that’s going on at that place at the moment would be a really big step.

“Champions League football as well, so he’s not going to be stepping away from that level.”

Footage of Sandro Tonali reacting to the gym facilities on show at Newcastle United’s training ground has become a big talking point on social media.

The 23-year-old midfielder was given a tour of the transformed Benton training base this week after completing his much talked-about £55 million move from AC Milan.

Tonali’s girlfriend Juliette Pastore appeared pleasantly surprised when she walked into the Premier League club’s new-look training ground for the first time.

But the Italy international appeared to keep his cards close to his chest as he walked around; that’s until he was asked about the size of Newcastle’s gym.

To be fair, the building has undergone an “extensive” renovation of late, with the addition of hydrotherapy and plunge pools, improved changing rooms and an updated presentation room.

Other additions include a modern players’ lounge and a brand new dining area but compared to the Milanello Sports Center gym, it seems Newcastle are lacking in the size department.

Here’s how social media reacted to the above clip.

One said: “I’ve not watched one clip of this guy looking happy with the decision he has made,” while another wrote: “Actually feel so sorry for Tonali. Can clearly tell he just doesn’t want to be there. Wouldn’t surprise me if he forces a move back in a few years time.”

A third commented: “Gotta feel for Newcastle. I’ve seen this movie before. He was sold to help them out financially, he will kick off in about 6 months time, go back to Milan for pennies.”

A fourth added: “People need to let this go now like ha ha it’s turned proper weird. He’s a Newcastle player end of.

Back in 2021, shortly after the £300 million takeover of Newcastle was completed, Staveley described the club’s training facilities as “really awful”.

Newcastle fans impressed by Sandro Tonali’s ‘elite mentality’ after first Newcastle interview
Sandro Tonali may have only been at Newcastle a few days but he has already won over a large percentage of the Toon Army.

Tonali, 23, became the second-most expensive signing in the club’s history when he joined them in a £55m move from AC Milan on Monday.

The Italy international has signed a five-year deal with Newcastle in a major transfer coup for the Premier League club.

Some have questioned why Tonali has swapped Milan for Newcastle, given the fact both clubs will compete in the Champions League next season.

Meanwhile, others joked that he would be on the first plane back to Italy after arriving in the UK to blustery conditions earlier this week. Check out the video below.
This is everyone’s goal. To try and win as soon as possible.”

When asked if he is looking forward to playing at St James’ Park, Tonali added: “We’re almost there and I know it will be a great emotion.

“I am waiting for this moment and I hope it will come very soon.”

Newcastle fans have already been won over by Tonali and his determination to succeed in English football.

Trippier was heard telling Tonali about the difficulties of moving to a new country, something the Englishman experienced when he joined Spanish La Liga side Atletico Madrid.

Trippier said: “If you need any help, I’m always here. Just to help you settle, I know how hard it is to move to a different country so I’m here if you any help, about the city, the team, or anything, I’m here.

“I want to make you feel welcome.”

Speaking to Tonali’s partner, Trippier added: “Especially for you, because my wife struggled in Spain.

“The quicker you settle, the quicker he settles so that’s the most important thing.”

One said: “Tripps is such a nice lad.”

Another tweeted: “Brilliant on and off the pitch, as well as quite probably being the best RB I’ve seen in Newcastle United colours.”

A third fan added: “Truly hope fans realize and appreciate what Trippier has done for the club and how lucky we are to have him. The way he carries himself on and off the pitch is exemplary. What a man and what a player.”

Someone else wrote: “This is why he’s captain class act Trippier.”

Whilst a fifth commented: “This is great, especially after hearing him talk on High Performance about moving to Spain and how hard it was.”

Another fan said: “A true leader I love how much Eddie has made it properly being a team and not just individuals making anyone who puts a top on. What a signing and top man.”

Newcastle are gearing up for a huge season ahead after their successful 22/23 campaign.

In the new season, the Magpies will be hoping to compete with the best teams in Europe as they partake in the Champions League.
