Manchester City unwilling to sell £50m player to Liverpool in 2024

Manchester City are reportedly unwilling to sell Kalvin Phillips to an English club in January, amid rumoured interest from Liverpool.

According to the Daily Mail, the reigning Premier League champions prefer to offload the £50m-rated midfielder abroad rather than sell Phillips to a direct rival, such as Liverpool.

The Reds have been strongly linked with a move for the former Leeds United star heading into the January transfer window.

However, this latest update could throw away any potential prospects Liverpool might now have in signing Phillips, with City unwilling to sell to a Premier League rival.

Indeed, Pep Guardiola’s side have every right to not move Phillips on to an English side, yet given the current state of the market, a club like Liverpool could be their only hope.

With few foreign sides having the finances to match what City want for Phillips, Liverpool’s interest could be all it takes for the Manchester giants to change their mind.

With Premier League interest high in Phillips, it might not be long until City change their tune on who they want to sell the midfielder to in January.

And as a result, Liverpool could become a realistic option again for the England international, with Jurgen Klopp’s side clearly in need of a defensive midfielder in the winter market.

With Newcastle United also interested, it could be quite the battle for Phillips next year, and City’s attitude towards the 27-year-old could change drastically in the coming weeks.
