Manchester City’s social media account aimed a dig at Liverpool following their Premier League title triumph.

City secured the league title with a 3-1 victory over West Ham on the final day of the season. Phil Foden scored a brace before Rodri made sure of the three points at the Etihad Stadium after Mohammed Kudus got a goal back for the Hammers.

Pep Guardiola’s side beat Arsenal to win the league title by two points, with the Gunners beating Everton 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium. Despite Arsenal winning the game, City had a two-point advantage, meaning that all Guardiola and Co. had to do to win the title would match the result at the Emirates Stadium.

City also made history by becoming the first team to win four consecutive league titles in the Premier League era. It’s that statistic that was the source of inspiration for City’s post-match post on Twitter, formerly known as X.

The post from the club’s official account read, “This means four,” accompanied by four trophy emojis. While this post was about City’s title triumphs, it may also be interpreted as a dig at Liverpool.

Liverpool have previously used the motto “This means more” as well as their famous anthem, “You’ll Never Walk Alone.” The Anfield club finished third in the Premier League table, nine points adrift of City, after being in the title race for the majority of the campaign.

After enjoying their title celebrations, City will now be looking ahead to their final match of the season. Guardiola and Co. will face Manchester United in the FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium next week as the chance to secure a double remains on track.

REPORT: LIVERPOOL STAR LINKED TO REAL MADRID AS £60M RELEASE CLAUSE REVEALED

REAL MADRID’S INTEREST IN LIVERPOOL’S ALEXIS MAC ALLISTER: LOOMING THREAT?
The football world is abuzz with recent rumours linking Alexis Mac Allister with a potential move to Real Madrid. As Liverpool enters a new era under manager Arne Slot, the possible departure of one of their key midfielders could be a significant setback. This piece reflects on the DSports Radio report that has sent ripples through the football community, evaluating the potential impact on both clubs involved.

MAC ALLISTER’S IMPACT AT LIVERPOOL
Liverpool secured Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton last summer, a move hailed as a masterstroke. Mac Allister’s performances in the Premier League and his standout role in Argentina’s World Cup victory made him a highly sought-after talent. The Reds capitalised on a £35m release clause, bringing the dynamic midfielder to Anfield.

Since his arrival, Mac Allister has been instrumental in revitalising Liverpool’s midfield, which had been languishing in mediocrity. Alongside three other new signings, his presence has injected fresh energy and creativity, making Liverpool a formidable force once again. However, the recent reports from DSports Radio suggest that this rejuvenation might be short-lived.

— DSports Radio 103.1 FM (@DSportsRadio) May 17, 2024

REAL MADRID’S STRATEGIC MOVE
Real Madrid, known for their strategic acquisitions, appear to have set their sights on Mac Allister. With Luka Modric and Toni Kroos nearing the twilight of their careers, the Spanish giants are scouting for a new midfield maestro. Carlo Ancelotti’s side reportedly views Mac Allister as a perfect fit for their evolving squad.

DSports Radio’s claims that Mac Allister has a €70m release clause in his Liverpool contract have intensified speculations. At around £60m, this clause represents a substantial profit for Liverpool but also a tempting deal for Real Madrid. The Spanish club is known for its financial prowess, and this clause might be too inviting to ignore.

TIMING AND TRANSITION
Fortunately for Liverpool, Real Madrid’s potential raid is not expected to be immediate. The timeframe suggested points to a move within the next year, aligning with Modric and Kroos’s possible contract renewals. This delay offers Arne Slot some breathing room to further integrate Mac Allister into his plans and potentially find suitable replacements if necessary.

The allure of playing for Real Madrid is undeniable, especially for a player like Mac Allister. LaLiga would present a new challenge, and with Spanish as his first language, the transition would be seamless. The prospect of joining a midfield already boasting talents like Aurelien Tchouameni, Eduardo Camavinga, and Jude Bellingham is enticing.

POTENTIAL MIDFIELD COMBINATIONS
Imagining a Real Madrid midfield featuring Mac Allister is exciting. Pairing him with Tchouameni and Bellingham could create a blend of creativity, strength, and versatility. While Camavinga’s and Tchouameni’s adaptability would ensure no obstruction to new arrivals, Mac Allister’s inclusion could elevate Real Madrid’s midfield dynamics.

The speculation surrounding Mac Allister’s future, though, is primarily based on the reports from DSports Radio. For now, Liverpool supporters can find solace in the fact that he remains contracted at Anfield until 2028. Furthermore, such transfer rumours, unless corroborated by more reputable sources, should be taken with a pinch of salt.

As Liverpool prepare for their final game of the season and the end of Jurgen Klopp’s era, Mac Allister is poised to play a crucial role. Despite the swirling rumours, it is unlikely that this match will mark his farewell to the club. The football world will be watching closely as Real Madrid’s interest unfolds, but for now, Liverpool can continue to rely on their Argentine maestro.

The potential transfer of Alexis Mac Allister to Real Madrid is a tantalising prospect for many, but it also highlights the unpredictable nature of football transfers. Liverpool fans can remain hopeful that Mac Allister will continue to shine in red, at least for the foreseeable future.

Erik ten Hag takes one last chance to talk about Arsenal
By Dan Critchlow -May 19, 2024
With the season coming to a close, Erik ten Hag took one last opportunity to talk about Manchester United’s September defeat to Arsenal this week.

More than eight months after Manchester United’s defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, Erik ten Hag is still going on about the result like it explains his team’s season.

“In this season we almost didn’t get the turning point where you say ‘now we can make a step through’,” ten Hag said in midweek.

“I remember the Arsenal game, where we played very good, and in the 87th minute I thought we won the game, with a goal from Garnacho.

“That could have given a big lift to the team, and with that belief and confidence you build on in the next games. But we never got this.”

This is one of many, many times that ten Hag has talked about United’s defeat to Arsenal, claiming in February that they “deserved” to win that game.

Before last week’s match against the Gunners, ten Hag said of Garnacho’s goal: “That was one of the moments that our season could have gotten into a turnaround.”

Back in September, ten Hag said the offside decision was “not offside”, claiming the VAR officials used “the wrong angle”.

The Premier League’s independent Key Match Incidents panel reviewed all the incidents in the Manchester United game, and it was revealed that the officials did make one mistake – by failing to award the Gunners a penalty.

Arsenal were initially awarded a spot-kick for a foul on Kai Havertz, but VAR overturned the decision, despite replays showing contact on the German international.

The KMI panel have admitted this was one of three wrong decisions this season where VAR intervened and it shouldn’t have.

Of course, Manchester United had another chance to beat Arsenal fair and square, playing them at home last week.

They lost, again, and ten Hag continued to talk about the September match instead of addressing the game that just happened.

United go into the final day of the season looking to jump into seventh place ahead of Newcastle United, though their negative goal difference means they need a favour from Newcastle’s opponents Brentford.
