Luis Garcia reacts to Liverpool’s Sven-Goran Eriksson announcement today

As Liverpool fans wait to see who will take over from Jurgen Klopp, they were given an announcement over a managerial decision on Tuesday morning.

Last month, former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson publicly notified the world that he has a terminal illness. In doing so, Eriksson also reiterated his lifelong support of Liverpool.

After the Swede’s fandom became public knowledge, a campaign was started to allow him to manage the upcoming Liverpool Legends game against Ajax at Anfield. Today, Liverpool announced that Eriksson would indeed take charge of the team next month.

“We are delighted to confirm Sven-Goran Eriksson will be part of the LFC Legends management team for the game against Ajax Legends at Anfield,” wrote the Reds’ official Instagram account.

One of those to react was former Liverpool forward Luis Garcia, who has played in Legends’ games in the past. “Love it,” wrote the Spaniard, alongside a love heart emoji and a pair of praising hands.

Eriksson set to lead Liverpool
This is a brilliant piece of news on what will be an emotional occasion for Eriksson.

The 76-year-old managed 17 different teams during a glittering 42-year career in management. But although he was possibly close when Rafa Benitez left in 2010, he never lead his beloved Liverpool.

After hundreds of games and titles collected in Sweden, Portugal and Italy, the final team Sven takes charge of will be one wearing the famous red running out at Anfield. Poignant.

With John Aldridge, John Barnes and Ian Rush also on the coaching staff, it remains to be seen exactly what role Eriksson will undertake on the day.

But it seems likely that the three Liverpool legends will let the older man have his day on the touchline.

A competitive fixture it may not be, but that hardly matters. The Legends’ games are always full houses at Anfield and that won’t be any different on March 23rd either.

With the new Anfield Road stand now fully open, it will be an even bigger crowd than usual. A perfect send off for Sven.

For those involved, it will also give them a chance to be managed by an iconic coach on his final bow. Eriksson will go down as a legend of the game.

Time will tell whether Garcia himself will be involved, although it would seem likely that he will be. With other famous faces on show from the glorious recent past of Liverpool and Ajax, it’s all set to be a wonderful day at Anfield.

Mohamed Salah: Liverpool told £60m bid will be accepted for electrifying replacement – sources

Wolves will demand a fee of between £50-60million to let star man Pedro Neto depart in the summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The forward penned a long-term contract valid until 2027 with Gary O’Neil’s side in March 2022, meaning they have ground to seek a massive fee for one of their star players.

As revealed by Football Insider (11 February), Neto is expected to attract bids in the summer amid strong interest from Arsenal.

It is believed that Liverpool could also enter the race for the Portugal international as they seek a long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah, while clubs from across Europe are also monitoring the 23-year-old.

He suffered a hamstring issue earlier in the season which saw him sidelined for eight Premier League games, but he appears to be back to his electrifying best having delivered a series of dazzling performances since returning in late December.

Could Pedro Neto replace Salah at Liverpool?
Gary O’Neil’s side are under pressure to sell key stars to raise funds for new signings in the upcoming window, with Football Insider revealing (9 February) that Neto could be sold to unlock funds for deals of their own and to alleviate financial concerns.

Football Insider has also been told (10 February) that the Wolves are unlikely to make any summer signings before July as they navigate the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules.

Neto has scored three goals in all competitions for the West Midlands outfit this season and is currently joint-second in the Premier League for assists with eight.

Wolves sit 10th in the Premier League table despite their 2-0 defeat against Brentford on Saturday afternoon (10 February).

They are next in action against Tottenham away on Saturday afternoon (17 February).

Ex-Liverpool coach sacked after 12 games as flight from Newcastle explained

Former Liverpool Academy coach Neil Critchley has been relieved of his duties at Queens Park Rangers, just two months after being appointed by the Championship club.

QPR sat in the play-off places after Critchley’s one and only win as head coach but are now closer to the relegation zone than the top six, highlighting the drastic drop-off in performance levels. Such is the severity of this decline, the 44-year-old has now been sacked. His assistants Iain Brunskill and Mike Garrity, who have also previously served in roles at Liverpool, have also departed.

Critchley’s previous role within football came at Aston Villa, leaving his post as Blackpool boss last June to form part of Steven Gerrard’s backroom staff. His stay at the West Midlands club was short-lived, however, lasting only until October when Villa parted company with Gerrard.

Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez has taken to social media to send a message to supporters ahead of their return to action tonight in the Premier League.

The Argentine took to Instagram to share on his story that he was looking for more of the same from him and his teammates when they face Crystal Palace tonight in a London derby.

Fernandez in particular was back to his best last week when the Blues booked their place in the 5th Round of the FA Cup.

They beat Aston Villa 3-1 away from home, with the result shocking many in the game off the back of their poor form.

The World Cup winner picked up the player of the match award for his display, with a sensational free-kick putting the finishing touches on a superb performance.

His celebration for his goal saw an outburst of emotion, with it being clear that he had begun to get sick of all the talk that has been happening off the pitch.

Now, Fernandez has shared a message to supporters ahead of their return to the field tonight at Selhurst Park.

He said: “Let’s go again.”

The Blues have the chance to make a bit of their own Premier League history with a win tonight. It would be the first time they have ever won 13 consecutive games against a single opponent in the top flight.

Of course, this means that they are going into the away fixture having already had a win under their belt against Roy Hodgson’s men this season.

A late Noni Madueke penalty secured all three points earlier this season, in a game where Mykhailo Mudryk also found the net.

It was also the only occasion up to now where Chelsea fans have been able to see summer signing Romeo Lavia in action. He is currently ruled out with no timeframe on his return.
