LIVERPOOL VS BRENTFORD PREDICTION HEAD TO HEAD AND LINEUP AS LIVERPOOL FIVE PLAYERS ARE OUT
With an “shocking “offer Kylian Mbappe move to Liverpool has been announced today
LASK manager Thomas Sageder has suggested that he doesn’t like Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.
Sageder will lock horns with Klopp for a second time this season on November 30th, as Liverpool attempt to qualify for the Europa League knockout stage.
The two came face-to-face back in September, with the Reds winning 4-1 out in Austria. After that game, Klopp criticised the state of the LASK pitch and in quotes from Sky Sport Austria, his comments seem to have hit a nerve with Sagedar.
“What can I say? He’s slowly becoming unsympathetic to me,” said the 40-year-old.
“Now he’s setting up a squad there and with us he’s criticizing the groundsman. We have the opportunity to show what we think of it there.”
Sageder hits out at Klopp
It seems that Sageder’s criticism of Jurgen is two-fold here. Firstly, it appears that he was disappointed in Liverpool fielding a weakened team for Thursday’s loss against Toulouse.
Secondly, obviously, Klopp’s statements about the quality of LASK’s playing surface have rubbed him up the wrong way.
Well, unfortunately for Sageder, the Liverpool manager doesn’t have to answer to him.
MORE LIVERPOOL STORIES
The Reds can field absolutely whatever team they like in any game. Thursday’s XI may not have been the strongest available to Klopp – and there were several poor performers within that – but it did still see some big names come off the bench.
Anyway, it should have been good enough to win the game regardless.
Photo by Harry Langer/DeFodi Images via Getty Images
In terms of the comments of the quality of the pitch, Jurgen’s disappointment was totally justified. It’s up to LASK to ensure their field meets the standard expected, and it fell short.
That may have been a deliberate tactic of theirs to stall Liverpool’s passing play, but the Reds manager doesn’t have to be happy with it.
Nevertheless, Liverpool can perhaps expect a LASK side with a point to prove when they visit Anfield two weeks on Thursday. Having been outfought by Toulouse earlier this week, they’ll have to be wary of that.
We can’t imagine Jurgen will lose too much sleep over this, though.

OPINIONJürgen Klopp’s favorite playmaker is improving by the week and Liverpool truth should be clear
Liverpool’s pressing has been improving almost weekly this season. Jürgen Klopp was not happy with it after Luton but the Reds are heading in the right direction.

Speaking in the aftermath of Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Luton, it was clear Jürgen Klopp was dissatisfied with his team’s performance. “What I didn’t like particularly was the first half we had 0.0 counter-pressing,” he said. “That’s something I take personally, to be honest. I told the boys it’s not okay.”
Crack out the Michael Jordan meme, Klopp is on the warpath. The Reds’ manager will have his own method of assessing his team’s pressing, but his comments (relayed via the Liverpool ECHO) aren’t particularly backed up by the data. While counter-pressing is famously his favorite playmaker and he knows it better than anyone, the signs are actually good this season.
Opta has a metric called high turnovers, which is the ‘number of sequences that start in open play and begin 40m or less from the opponent’s goal’. If a team wins possession high up the pitch, it will log one of these in its data. At Luton, Liverpool recorded eight of them.

Having delivered between 11 and 16 in each of the preceding three matches, there was a dip at Kenilworth Road. However, the Reds’ tally last Sunday was not far below the season-wide average of 9.1 per match, and by having 73 per cent possession it did not leave too many opportunities for recovering the ball.
Another metric suggests the pressing has improved as 2023/24 has unfolded too. PPDA is ‘the number of opposition passes allowed outside of the pressing team’s own defensive third, divided by the number of defensive actions by the pressing team outside of their own defensive third’. The higher level of pressing the lower the figure, and Liverpool’s number has been heading south almost consistently since day one.
The chart in the above post shows the Reds’ season-wide PPDA figure after each league match has been played. After a poor start at Chelsea and recovery against Bournemouth, something very noteworthy occurred.
The figure then rose at Newcastle, entirely understandably as Liverpool played for over an hour with 10 men. But after every match apart from the defeat at Tottenham (again thanks to red card issues), the figure has come down. The press has been getting more and more intense according to PPDA as long as the Reds have had a full complement of players on the field.
A benchmark of minor note was breached at Luton too. After the 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest, Liverpool’s PPDA for this season was 10.4, matching the figure with which it ended both 2020/21 and 2022/23. The efforts last weekend dropped the figure to 10.2, drawing it towards the 9.9 posted in the quadruple-chasing campaign in between those two seasons. Disregard the three matches this season in which the Reds saw a man or two sent off for the sake of argument and the PPDA stands at 9.4.

Using the pressing data on Understat (which uses the opposition half rather than the front two-thirds of the pitch), we can compare 2023/24 with the entire Klopp era. By their measure, the Liverpool press was its most intense in his first two seasons in England. But the Reds team of that time would start matches like a hurricane and blow itself out long before full-time.
The balance was far better in the title-winning season of 2019/20 and the challenge which went to the final day two years later, with Liverpool’s PPDA 8.01 and 8.07 in those campaigns respectively. The figure for this season stands at 9.18, fourth best in the Premier League behind Spurs, Chelsea and Brighton.
But again, having 11 players throughout the match has seen Klopp’s men average 8.43 for their PPDA per Understat, which would be second-best in the division. While it might not meet its manager’s exacting demands for counter-pressing, it seems clear Liverpool has a strong foundation upon which to build. This promises much for them and very testing matches for the opposition.

How Mo Salah ranks all-time after 5th Premier League POTM win
11 SECONDS AGO
ALEX CAPLE
Mo Salah won his fifth Premier League Player of the Month award for October 2023. Here’s how that ranks all-time.
The Premier League announced his week that Mo Salah is their Player of the Month for October. It’s no great surprise – the Liverpool forward had five goals in his three games.
And, of course, this is far from the first time that Salah has won the award. The last time was in October 2021 during a ridiculous period of form that made the Egyptian an early Ballon d’Or contender.
The other three came in his first season with Liverpool. That was a record-breaking campaign for Salah and he picked up the award in November 2017 as well as back-to-back wins in February and March 2018.
So October 2023 makes five. That is, unsurprisingly, one of the best totals in Premier League history and Salah is one of only seven players to ever win it that often.
The winger is actually joint-fifth all-time as he shares the no.5 with Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie. Both have no retired and it’s worth noting that Salah boasts the most wins of any active Premier League player.
Four players do have more than him, however. Cristiano Ronaldo and Steven Gerrard both won it six times, meaning Gerrard still holds the record for the most by a Liverpool player.
The top two, both on seven, are Sergio Aguero and Harry Kane. The latter is still active, though left the Premier League for the Bundesliga this summer.
And so Salah could potentially climb the list before long. As for being caught, there are three active Premier League players on four wins – Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford and Son Heung-min.
The closest active Liverpool player? Trent Alexander-Arnold. He’s picked up the award twice, so there’s still a ways to go before he reaches Salah’s mark of five.

Luis Diaz’s father asks the Catholic bishop who rescued him from ELN kidnapping to ‘marry him again’ to his wife after losing his wedding ring during 13-day ordeal

The couple were reunited almost two weeks after being taken hostage by group
Diaz Snr was forced to walk for miles day and end during his kidnapping ordeal
What’s Brendan Rodgers doing in the Scottish wilderness? It’s All Coming Up
The Roman Catholic bishop who rescued Luis Diaz’s dad has revealed he has asked him to ‘marry him again’ after losing his wedding band during his 13-day kidnap ordeal.
Monsignor Francisco Ceballos said Luis Manuel Diaz asked him to conduct the ceremony in which he will renew his wedding vows to Cilenis Marulanda.
The pair were taken hostage together on October 28. Cilenis was abandoned at the roadside near her home town of Barrancas shortly afterwards but her 58-year-old husband was taken towards the Perija Mountains on Colombia’s border with Venezuela and remained prisoner with his left-wing ELN hostage-takers until Thursday.
He is now resting after being reunited with his family and speaking to his Liverpool striker son, who missed football action at the start of the kidnap drama but came off the bench on Sunday to score a last-gasp equaliser for Liverpool against Luton.
Monsignor Ceballos, who described on Thursday how he was the first person in the humanitarian team to see Luis Manuel Diaz alive after going to his rescue, said: ‘He told me I had to marry him again because he had lost his ring.

Diaz Snr was kidnapped nearly two weeks ago in his hometown of Barrancas in Colombia
‘He said he wanted to renew his wedding vows.’
Saying the father-of-four had only formalised his relationship with Luis Diaz’s mum last year, he pledged: ‘We will definitely do it whenever they want.’
Respected Colombian media outlet Semana claimed after the footballer’s dad was freed that his hostage-takers had stolen all his valuables before handing him over.
It attributed blame to the ‘men on the motorbikes’ involved in the abduction of Luis Manuel Diaz and his wife as they bought water melons at a petrol station, saying they had taken the footballer trainer’s ring, chain and a bracelet.
Semana added: ‘They weren’t just expensive objects. Above all they had great sentimental value.’
Monsignor Ceballos did not go into the circumstances of how Luis Manuel had managed to become parted with his wedding ring. It is also known he suffered a knee injury after coming off the motorbike one of his captors was riding.
The bishop had previously revealed to a Colombian radio station Mr Diaz had been forced to walk day and night during his kidnap ordeal.
Speaking about the emotional moment he met him as he was freed, he said: ‘It’s a very emotional moment when you see a person who has been deprived of his liberty in front of you.
‘I met him practically on the path he was coming along.

Marulanda was also taken hostage by the organisation but was released hours after the pair were snatched off the street
‘I was the first person who saw him. I hugged him and he began to cry. He was very emotional and very tired because of the long walks he had to do.
‘He told me he had to walk continuously for two days plus another four days when he was kidnapped.
‘Of the 13 days he was kidnapped he was walking for six days day and night.’
Asked if footballer trainer Mr Diaz was aware of the intense police and military operation to snare his captors and rescue him while he was still a hostage, Monsignor Ceballos explained: ‘What he told me was that he sensed the helicopters very near, that they were very close by.
‘He of course felt afraid because when the army is carrying out those search operation and the guerrilla insurgents are trying to hide, the moment comes when the person who’s been kidnapped is at risk.
‘He was concerned there was going to be a confrontation.’
The release occurred after several earlier hopes of a rescue failed to materialise. The left-wing insurgent group ELN admitted responsibility for the kidnap late last week. It said a regional unit called the Northern War Front carried out the crime.
The abduction of civilians has been a traditional practice of the ELN, a Marxist-Leninist group which was founded in 1964 by radical Catholics inspired by Cuba’s communist revolution.
It was behind a car bombing in January 2019 at a police academy in Bogota which killed 21 people and injured 68 others, making it one of the deadliest attacks ever in the Colombian capital.

Peace talks have been going on between the ELN and the Colombian government since March 2020 when the guerrilla group declared a unilateral ceasefire, although it has continued to take innocent people hostage and make ransom demands.
Mr Diaz insisted after his release no ransom money had been handed over.
His wife made an impassioned plea to the kidnappers to set him free after he was snatched. She said as she took part in a second march on Sunday in Barrancas to demand his freedom: ‘I want them to release him now, that the people who are keeping him free him now back to me, because we want to have him back home.’
She broke down in tears after speaking and was comforted by a relative.

Liverpool made an approach for Andre in the summer, although he was not allowed to leave Fluminense. The Brazilian club wanted to keep the 22-year-old as they went in pursuit of a maiden Copa Libertadores title. Indeed, that decision reaped the rewards as Flu became champions of South America when beating Boca Juniors last weekend.
However, Fluminense are now prepared to allow Andre to depart and complete a move to the Premier League. Liverpool were linked but there have been suggestions interest has been cooled after signing Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch late in the summer.
Arsenal and Fulham are also said to be admirers of the Brazil international, but Manchester United are now reportedly in the race.
Speaking to Ge Globe, Flu president Mario Bittencourt recently said: We are waiting. Today, there is no concrete proposal for Andre. But we are sure that after the [Club] World Cup – he will play in the World Cup – a stratospheric proposal will arrive.
“It could be the biggest sale in the club’s history. We could possibly lose both (Andre and defender Nino), but we are working to replace them.”

Liverpool could be without seven players for Brentford match
Liverpool will be without Curtis Jones and Alexis Mac Allister as Ryan Gravenberch remains a doubt for the visit of Brentford in the Premier League

Virgil van Dijk captain of Liverpool during a training session prior the Toulouse FC and Liverpool FC UEFA Europa League match at Axa Training Centre
Liverpool will be hopeful that Virgil van Dijk can recover from illness in time for their clash against Brentford after he missed their Europa League defeat.
The Reds captain remained on Merseyside for their trip to Toulouse on Thursday as their 100 per cent record in Europe was broken in a 3-2 defeat.
Ryan Gravenberch and Curtis Jones also missed the fourth Europa League outing through injury with Jones set to return after the international break.

Questions over their away form, which has seen them fail to win four out of their last clashes outside of L4, will be put on hold with Thomas Frank’s side in town.
They will be looking to continue their unbeaten start at Anfield this season after recent wins over Everton and Nottingham Forest as well as the triumph over West Ham at the end of September.
Jurgen Klopp will be without a host of players, including summer signing Alexis Mac Allister, who is suspended for the visit of the Bees on Sunday.
Liverpool injury news
Virgil Van Dijk
Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk is in line to return to the squad after missing their defeat on Thursday.
The Dutchman, who will be reuniting with his Holland teammates next week, suffered an illness that kept him in the North West as his Reds teammates travelled to the south of France.
Speaking on Wednesday, Jurgen Klopp expects his skipper to return to the starting line-up.
“Virgil is a little bit ill, should not be a big thing but we did not want him on the plane. It was obvious, some have it, I have it a little as well that’s why we left him at home. He absolutely should be alright for the weekend.”
Ryan Gravenberch
There are some slight concerns over the fitness of deadline day signing Ryan Gravenberch. The former Ajax and Bayern Munich midfielder has showed signs of being a brilliant piece of business following a string of strong performances.
He was absent from the open training session on Wednesday, prior to the trip to France, with Klopp admitting that a “little” knee issue kept him out of the defeat to the Purples.
Klopp, however, says there’s a chance he could feature against the West London club on Sunday (2pm kick-off). But he should be at full fitness for the resumption of Premier League football on November 25 when Liverpool travel to Premier League holders, Manchester City.
“Ryan got a little niggle in the knee, nothing major,” Klopp said. “He was running today (Wednesday), we hope there’s a chance for Brentford and he will definitely be back after the international break but that doesn’t help now for today. That’s why he’s not here (Toulouse).
Curtis Jones
Curtis Jones’ misfortune will continue as he has been ruled out of Sunday’s match with a hamstring injury.
The Liverpool midfielder was replaced shortly after the hour-mark during their Carabao Cup win over AFC Bournemouth on November 1.
While the problem is a “low, low-grade hamstring” injury, it will be enough to rule him out of selection on Sunday.
“Curtis had, last week, a hamstring (issue) not massive. After the international break, he will be back but before not. It’s a low, low-grade hamstring,” said Klopp.
“He was in good shape, red card, lack of rhythm, got the games and then, he felt a little bit. I took him off against Bournemouth, he didn’t feel anything there then in the dressing room he was lying there and felt something. We had a scan, very low-grade but kept him out.”
Andy Robertson
Another absentee is full-back Andy Robertson. The Scotland captain has been out of action after suffering a dislocated shoulder during the Tartan Army’s defeat to Spain in October.
Robertson underwent surgery on the injury and is expected to return in the new year.
Alexis Mac Allister
Alexis Mac Allister will serve his one-match ban against Brentford on Sunday after accumulating five yellow cards.
Mac Allister was shown a straight red card on his home debut against AFC Bournemouth in August but saw his suspension rescinded, following a challenge on Ryan Christie.
The former Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder has been deployed in an unfamiliar position since his move up north, which has led to question marks over his performance levels.
His absence poses the prospect of a Premier League start for Wataru Endo, however, Klopp has spoken about the possibility of Trent Alexander-Arnold moving further forward.
Thiago Alcantara
Thiago Alcantara remains out of action following a setback in his recovery from pelvis surgery.
The Spaniard hasn’t featured for Liverpool since his 31-minute cameo against West Ham United in April. He is expected to be back in the New Year.
Stefan Bajcetic
Stefan Bajcetic is also sidelined after he too suffered a setback in his recovery from injury. His current problem is not linked to the issue that curtailed his breakthrough campaign, last year.
However, there is no return date for the Spanish youngster.
