Liverpool transfer news as $65m Bayern Munich star’wanted’and England defender’eyed’
Liverpool has much to think about with its midfield this summer, but a new defender could be worth considering as well as Jürgen Klopp reshapes his Reds squad ahead of the new season.
Among the targets for the center of the pitch are Alexis Mac Allister (Brighton) and Mason Mount (Chelsea) but there is another big-name player being linked with a move to Anfield today that would be a very intriguing option.
Meanwhile, a little further back at the heart of the defense, there is an interesting name that has been suggested who would tick a couple of important boxes for Klopp and his recruitment staff.

Jörg Schmadtke is expected to sign a short-term deal to become Liverpool’s new sporting director soon, but most of the groundwork for the upcoming transfer window has already been done and plenty of progress has been made ahead of time.
Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds today, with a couple of different positions possibly to be strengthened before the new Premier League season begins.
Joshua Kimmich (Bayern Munich)
Liverpool and Arsenal are both among the clubs considering making a move for 28-year-old Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich this summer, according to Spanish outlet Marca.
It is reported that Barcelona would be keen to bring the experienced Germany international in a year on from stealing Robert Lewandowski from the Bundesliga giants. Kimmich is said to be open to a move away from Bayern as well.

But with a price tag of at least $65m (£52m/€60m), it is suggested that Barcelona might struggle to get a deal done from an economic perspective when wages are factored into the equation as well.
Liverpool.com says: Liverpool certainly needs midfield reinforcements and Kimmich would be a quality option, but it would appear more likely that others would be higher up the list. At 28, he is probably slightly older than ideal, even if he clearly still has a lot to offer and would arrive with loads of high-level experience.
Marc Guéhi (Crystal Palace)
Liverpool and Manchester United have joined Tottenham and Arsenal in being keen on a transfer move for Crystal Palace’s English center-back Marc Guéhi this summer, according to the Daily Mail.
Valued at $62m (£50m/€57m), Guéhi has impressed again this season and the 22-year-old, who has three international caps to his name to date, would come with the added advantage of being homegrown, which would be useful as Liverpool aims to increase its number for that quota.
A new defender could be on the agenda for the Reds this summer with Virgil van Dijk and Joël Matip both over 30 and the latter out of contract in 2024.
Liverpool.com says: Guéhi is hugely talented but a fee of $62m seems quite excessive. If the bidding reached that level, it would be a surprise if Liverpool made a serious move — for less, though, he would be an option worth considering.
