Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez ‘storms down tunnel’ after brief cameo in win over Bournemouth
Darwin Nunez is alleged to have stormed down the tunnel following Liverpool’s 3-1 win against Bournemouth at Anfield.
For the second Premier League game this season, the 24-year-old was left out of Jurgen Klopp‘s starting XI.
And he wasn’t thrown on against the Cherries until the 86th minute with the Reds 3-1 up.
The Uruguay international had too little time to make an impact as Liverpool battled back from behind to claim all three points in Merseyside.
According to eyewitnesses at the match, Nunez, who joined from Benfica last year in a deal rising to £85million, made a hasty exit off the pitch.
One Liverpool fan tweeted: “Nunez straight off down the tunnel at full time, didn’t look happy. No idea why.”
Another posted: “Nunez very unhappy. Stormed straight down the tunnel. No idea what’s happened.”
A third added: “Nunez not a happy bunny straight down the tunnel.”
This supporter then commented: “Darwin Nunez not happy at all walked off the pitch at the ft whistle and straight down the tunnel.”
Meanwhile one fan watching simply stated: “Nunez straight down the tunnel. Don’t look happy.”
Nunez has struggled for consistency since arriving last summer, with the forward scoring nine Premier League goals in his debut season in England.
He has found the back of the net just four times in the top-flight in 2023, with his last strike coming in April during the 6-1 win away at Leeds.
Journalist shares Randal Kolo Muani update involving Tottenham and PSG
Tottenham are looking for a new striker after finally selling Harry Kane to Bayern Munich this summer.
Spurs got £100m for their star man and are now tasked with the job of trying to replace both the goals and assists that Kane brings to a team.
Of course, in an ideal world, signing a top striker would go a long way to filling the gap left by Kane.
According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Tottenham were in for Muani but the forward rejected the move as Spurs apparently dithered over turning interest into a bid.
It seems very much, then, that Tottenham have missed a trick here with Muani.
Ange Postecoglou has spoken of trimming his squad in the coming weeks but there is also a reality that replacing Kane best they can is a priority.
Tottenham fans could end up frustrated this summer
If Spurs don’t end up signing a forward, or at least a player who can play in the number ten role, then Tottenham fans will be wondering what’s going on.
Missing out on Muani might be one thing but if it happens again with other targets, then it looks like Spurs are failing off the field.
We all know Kane can’t be replaced directly. He’s just too good and that’s why he cost more than £100m.
However, players like the ‘amazing’ Muani and others on the market can go towards filling the void and this very much feels like an opportunity missed.
The Athletic have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur have complete the signing of England defender on four year deal on (£25.7m)
It has been reported by various outlets over the last couple of months that Adarabioyo is on Tottenham’s radar (Football London), but it emerged last week that Spurs were looking beyond the Fulham star and towards other centre-back options such as Torino’s Perr Shuurs (GiveMeSport).
Meanwhile, Foot Mercato. suggested last week that the former England Under-21s star was edging closer to a move to Monaco.
On Tuesday, Sky Sports journalist Lyall Thomas revealed that the Ligue 1 club’s offer of €10m (£8.5m) for the centre-back was turned down by Fulham.
Spurs continue to circle Adarabioyo this summer
News of Monaco’s latest rejected offer has now also been backed up by The Athletic, who explain that this is the second bid that the French club have had sent back after initially bidding €7m (£6m) plus add-ons for the player earlier in the summer.
The report asserts that Tottenham have not withdrawn from the race for Adarabioyo’s signature, with the Lilywhites alleged to be monitoring the centre-back’s situation closely.
Spurs Web Opinion
Moncao would not be launching offers and negotiating with Fulham unless they already have a verbal agreement in place with Adarabioyo’s entourage. So, the fact that Spurs are not getting involved in the bidding suggests that they are prioritising other centre-back options instead.
