This past weekend, reports emerged claiming that despite prioritising the signing of Jude Bellingham this summer, Real Madrid intended to sign Gabri Veiga as well from Celta Vigo. The plan, in that case, would be to loan out the young Spaniard for the next season.

However, as per a fresh report from Teamtalk, Liverpool have stolen a march over Real Madrid and other suitors in the race to sign Veiga in the summer.

Having dropped out of the race to sign Bellingham due to the finances involved, the Reds are now keen to exact revenge on Real Madrid by beating them to the punch in the battle for Veiga.

The 20-year-old midfielder has had an explosive breakthrough campaign in La Liga, scoring nine goals and setting up four more in 32 matches.

It put him on the radars of Real Madrid as Veiga fits the profile of players that the reigning European champions have recruited in recent times.

So, even though they are closing in on landing Bellingham, Veiga has been an option on the agenda at the Valdebebas. It has even been claimed that the Merengues plan to offer €30 million for him, even though he has a €40 million release clause in his contract.

However, Liverpool are pushing to sign Veiga from the Galician outfit and would be prepared to pay his €40 million release clause in full if needed to ensure that they come out on top.

It remains to be seen if Real Madrid are ready to push further in their race for Veiga or whether Liverpool end up triumphing in that battle. With clubs like Arsenal, Manchester City, and Manchester United also understood to be in the race, only time will tell where he ends up.

The relationship between Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid appears to have taken a turn for the worse, over the past 12 months.

Starting with Real Madrid poaching a few players from Atletico’s youth academy, breaking the non-aggression pact in the process, the two teams have been at odds with each other.

Naturally, neither of the two teams have held back when given the opportunity to bring down the other. In one such instance, Atletico Madrid had damaged the benches and the dressing room at Real Madrid’s facilities after the youth derby between the two clubs, reports The Athletic.

The Real Madrid youth were playing Atletico Madrid youth in the second leg of the quarterfinal of Copa da Campeones. The respective coaches of the two teams – Fernando Torres and Arbeloa, who were once teammates at Liverpool – had already made headlines due to a spat that resulted in the former getting sent off.

In the same game, The Athletic relays a source from Madrid, who claimed that Atletico Madrid had damaged the benches and dressing room of the opposition at the Valdebebas facility.

The said act could be a byproduct of the tension that came to a boiling point when the two youth teams met for the second leg tie, which ended in a 2-2 draw, with Real Madrid advancing thanks to a 4-2 aggregate.

In the same game, Torres was also involved in an altercation with Real Madrid fans, who began to taunt the former Chelsea striker.

Real Madrid, meanwhile, have taken note of the damages inside their facilities and are seriously considering formally notifying Atletico Madrid. It will be interesting to see how things transpire, especially in the midst of growing tensions between the two city rivals.
