Liverpool scout defensive ‘leader’, Romano has claimed talks with mystery PL clubs

Liverpool appear to have an interest in Lens defender Kevin Danso having watched him in action over the weekend.

That is according to 90Min, who report that Liverpool were among the scouts in attendance to watch Lens against Marseille.

Lens continued their superb season with a fine win and they now risk losing some of their top players.

It’s stated that scouts were in attendance to watch midfielder Seko Fofana and striker Lois Openda alongside defender Danso.

Liverpool appear to be interested in all three and the links to Danso are pretty interesting.

Liverpool could move on Joe Gomez or Joel Matip this summer and free up room for another centre back to come in.

Many rumours have surrounded left-footed defenders but Danso would be an option on the right side.

Danso has played exclusively as a centre back this summer but has played as a right back at times.

That may give Liverpool a more defensive option as cover for Trent Alexander-Arnold, with that versatility potentially key.

Danso moved to Milton Keynes at the age of just six and was born in Austria to Ghanaian parents.

Danso spent time in the Reading youth ranks before heading to Milton Keynes Dons.

The defender built up a friendship with Dele Alli with the Dons as they came through the ranks together.

Danso left MK Dons a year before Alli, heading to Germany with Augsburg as the German club spotted his potential.

Danso continued to show promise in Germany and Southampton took him on loan in 2019, but the spell didn’t quite work out.

Lens snapped Danso up in 2021 and he has now kicked on to become a star under Lens boss Franck Haise.

Haise has hailed Danso as a ‘leader’ during their time together and has made him a key part of an impressive Lens team.

A move to the Premier League does seem to be on the cards as Fabrizio Romano claimed in April that talks between his representatives and clubs in England took place.

Liverpool could now position themselves in the race for Danso, but a centre back may need to move on first.

Report: Mauricio Pochettino’s stance on Liverpool target Mason Mount as Chelsea appointment…

Incoming Chelsea Mauricio Pochettino sees Mason Mount as a key player in the squad

As per Daily Mail, Mauricio Pochettino sees Mason Mount as a key player in the Chelsea squad if he becomes the Blues boss in the coming summer.

The Argentine is a big admirer of the England international’s work ethic and technical qualities on the ball. But, the 24-year-old’s contract at Stamford Bridge expires next summer (Transfermarkt).

Mount is yet to agree on an extension yet. Liverpool and Arsenal are keeping an eye on him. Chelsea need money from player sales to balance the books in the summer. The Guardian has reported that Todd Boehly and co. are looking to sell players who have their contracts expiring in a year’s time. Mateo Kovacic is on that boat and is likely to leave too.

If we ignore the current season (which has been bad for every Chelsea player), Mount has been one of the best players in the Chelsea team over the past two seasons.

He is a technically strong player who can create chances, can score goals, can play multiple positions across the midfield and forward line and is a strong worker off the ball. He has what it takes to be successful in the modern game.

There is a reason why Thomas Tuchel kept playing him and made him a key member of the squad. Pochettino liking him is of no surprise to us.

But, given Chelsea’s situation, they are probably backed into a corner to let go of the 24-year-old. They anyway have to trim the bloated squad after signing 15 players in the last two transfer windows.

If or when Mount leaves, not many in the current Blues squad would be able to replace him. The other devastating part is that he may play for one of the Premier League rivals next season onward.
