Liverpool principal owner John Henry has reportedly flown into the Caribbean to hold crunch talks after Fenway Sports Group’s latest investment.

FSG expanded their portfolio when spearheading an investment in the PGA Tour in January. Along with several other powerful sports team owners – including NFL outfit the Atlanta Falcons’ Arthur Blank and NBA team the Boston Celtics’ Wyc Grousbeck – the Strategic Sports Group has invested an initial $1.5 billion that could reach $3 billion in golf’s premier tour.

Golf has been fractured since several high-profile players – including major winners Phil Mickelson, Brooks Koepka and recently John Rahm – left the PGA. They opted to join LIV, which is funded by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, who also own Newcastle United.

It came as a surprise last June that the PGA, LIV and the DP World Tour had agreed to a merger deal. But a deadline of 31 December was missed and a deal has still to be brokered almost three months into this year.

As a result, talks have been ongoing in the Bahamas ahead of the Hero World Challenge, which is hosted by Tiger Woods. After The Players Championship last weekend, PGA player-director Patrick Cantlay confirmed that talks with PIF representatives were set to happen.

“Well, I’ve got to hear out what they have to say, and I will always do my best to represent the entire membership whenever I am in a meeting in that capacity,” said Cantlay. “I think more information is always better.”

Cantlay did not confirm who would be part of those talks. However, Henry was named on the board of directors for PGA Tour Enterprises, the new commercial venture that SSG are involved in, earlier this month. And Golf Monthly reports that Henry jetted off to the Bahamas for the talks. It was reported in February that Henry led a contingent to Saudi Arabia for discussions.

Speaking ahead of The Players Championship, PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan said: “I recently met with PIF chairman, Yasir Al-Rumayyan, and our negotiations are accelerating as we spend time together. We have a shared vision, to quiet the noise and progress golf forward. It’s going to take time but I reiterate what I said at the Tour Championship in August. I see a positive outcome for the PGA Tour and the sport as a whole. Most importantly I see a positive outcome for our great fans.”

Logic for why Man Utd goal against Liverpool wasn’t ruled offside makes no sense

The fallout from Liverpool’s disappointing FA Cup quarter final exit at the hands of Manchester United continues, with much to pick over in the wake of the 4-3 defeat at Old Trafford.

Liverpool twice surrendered the lead to lose the game at the death in extra time, with tactical and individual errors aplenty as signs of fatigue began to show amid an already gruelling season.

However, the Reds were also (once again) not helped by the match officials, with referee John Brooks the centre of attention in a number of key moments.

Perhaps most controversially and crucially, in the build up to Antony’s 87th-minute equaliser to make the game 2-2 and usher in extra time, Marcus Rashford appeared to be in a clear offside position.

The ball was played forward towards Rashford only for Virgil van Dijk to step up and lunge to make a clearance, which then returned possession to United who would go on to score seconds later.

No flag went up from the assistant running the line, while VAR Tim Robinson found nothing to overturn upon review of the incident and the dubious goal stood, leaving many scratching their heads at the pivotal point in the tie.

WHY WASN’T ANTONY’S GOAL RULED OUT FOR RASHFORD’S OFFSIDE?
Rashford, although he never touched the ball, appeared to be clearly interfering with play, with his positioning forcing Van Dijk’s intervention.

This is an ‘interesting’ interpretation of an offside.

Essentially says that Rashford benefitted from being offside, but it wasn’t called offside because it wasn’t ‘clear’.

But, it says he benefitted? So, he’s offside then? https://t.co/tKTp3OEjLm pic.twitter.com/5xMuC9OkMP

— LewisFN (@LewisFN00) March 18, 2024

However, EPSN’s VAR expert Dale Johnson writes that “a player isn’t offside by their position alone — their role in the move is what decides an offence.”

Analysing the reasons behind the officials’ decision, he continues: “Even though Virgil van Dijk had to intercept the pass, which gave possession back to United, Rashford wasn’t close enough to the Liverpool player to be deemed to have made an impact.

“This is how the modern offside law is. Van Dijk probably doesn’t make such a stretched interception if Rashford isn’t behind him, but the Liverpool player cannot gamble that he’s offside. In effect, United still benefited from Rashford being offside because it caused Van Dijk to stretch out a leg, but it’s not a clear offside offence.”

86mins: Why doesn’t the lino put his flag up when someone’s blatantly offside?!
VVD has to clear the ball, Liverpool never regain it and fewer than 20 seconds later the ball is in the back of net to make it 2-2 🤦🏻‍♂️

— Neil Mellor (@NeilMellor33) March 18, 2024

Johnson’s analysis concedes that United did ‘benefit’ from the offside positioning which forced Van Dijk’s movement, so is that not enough?

Whatever way you see it, it’s either a poor interpretation from the match officials or another example of how the current offside law is not fit for purpose.

Former Red and LFCTV reporter Neil Mellor was one of many left incensed by the decision, posting on X (Twitter): “86mins: Why doesn’t the lino put his flag up when someone’s blatantly offside?! VVD has to clear the ball, Liverpool never regain it and fewer than 20 seconds later the ball is in the back of net to make it 2-2 Put your flag up lino!”

Make no mistake that the decision is not the sole reason why the Reds are not in the final four of the FA Cup, but Liverpool fans have, unfortunately, become accustomed to controversial decisions in the biggest moments so far this season (see: Diaz offside, Odegaard handball, Doku chest-kick) and this appears to be another to add to a painful list.

‘Fantastic’… Man City told they have a teenager who will be worth £100m, Guardiola’s played him just once
Tue 19 March 2024 08:30
Srinivas Sadhanand
Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony believes Jadel Katongo will be worth £100 million one day.

The 19-year-old, who joined Manchester City’s academy at Under-19 level is on loan at Peterborough.

Katongo, a centre-back by trade has started in 16 out of 38 games for The Posh in League One this season.

The Englishman has just been played by Pep Guardiola once, as he started for City in their 2-0 victory against Girona, with Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland getting on the scoresheet.

Darragh MacAnthony says Jadel Katongo will be worth £100 million in two or three years
The teenager started in a youthful backline, as he was partnered by Shea Charles, with Rico Lewis and Sergio Gomez operating as the full-backs.

Now, Darragh MacAnthony has predicted that Jadel Katongo will be worth a whopping £100 million sooner rather than later.

“Let’s talk about Jadel Katongo, Man City, been fantastic with us, by the way.”

“He’s probably going to be worth £100 million in two, three years’ time”, he said on The Hard Truth- Inside The Football Industry with Darragh MacAnthony.

If Jadel Katongo is worth £100 million, he will make the grade at Manchester City
While Jadel Katongo has tons of potential, if Darragh MacAnthony is proven right about his value in two to three years, he will become a first-team player at Manchester City without question.

As brilliant as the likes of Oscar Bobb and Rico Lewis are, currently, it would be a stretch to suggest that they will be worth £100 million in a few years.

It is difficult to see when Katongo gets the chance to become a senior member of City’s squad.

Unlike in previous seasons, Pep Guardiola does not have a single weak link among his centre-back options.

John Stones, Ruben Dias, Nathan Ake, Manuel Akanji and Josko Gvardiol all have a claim for getting into any team in the world if not their squad.

As a result, Jadel Katongo will have to justify his incredible potential to even be in with a chance of being a rotational option at Manchester City, let alone become a starter.

But if Darragh MacAnthony’s projection about the highly-rated defender’s potential is proven correct, there would be no stopping him.

Who Is Premier League Star Virgil van Dijk’s Wife, Rike Nooitgedagt?
Meet the wife of Dutch titan Virgil van Dijk, whom he’s been with since childhood.

If you’ve ever tuned into a Liverpool match, even for the untrained eye, it’s impossible not to notice the 6-foot-5 sentinel, laying waste to all ye who dare encroach upon the Reds’ backline. To put it simply, watching Virgil van Dijk defend his domain is awe-inspiring. Between his size, game IQ, his dauntless effort and his absurd blend of explosiveness and touch, van Dijk’s a beast on the pitch in the same way that Aaron Judge is a nightmare on the baseball diamond — he can do things that mortals just shouldn’t be able to do. He earned the PFA Player of the Year award in 2019, and has been a crucial part to Liverpool’s recent run of success.

While van Dijk has quickly risen to be one of the Premier League’s brightest stars since his arrival to Anfield’s hallowed halls in 2018, little is known about his wife Rike Nooitgedagt, who’s been his long-term rock throughout his life ever since the couple met during their childhood. Well, we’re here to change that with this breakdown of everything you need to know about her.

How did Virgil Van Dijk meet Rike Nooitgedagt?
Van Dijk and Nooitgedagt grew up together in Breda, Netherlands, and they began dating when they were just teenagers, according to The Sun. As the Dutchman chased his career, Nooitgedagt fully stuck by her man, helping him achieve his dreams as football took them all over Europe, including Scotland when Van Dijk was with Celtic.

What does Rike Nooitgedagt do for a career?
Unlike most WAGS of the English Premier League, Nooitgedagt has shied away from capitalizing on her celebrity status on social media and seems to enjoy living her life with van Dijk and her family away from the spotlight. That said, while the Dutch center-back was waylaying strikers’ dreams of scoring, Nooitgedagt was busily forging a successful career as a fashion sales manager, according to Sportskeeda. Once van Dijk landed in Glasgow in 2013 to play for Celtic, she made the difficult sacrifice to give up her job. Nooitgedagt spoke about the decision to quit her job, explaining that she did it to support van Dijk and his career ambitions.

“I worked as a sales manager and sold different fashion brands to the stores in Holland,” Nooitgedagt explained in 2019. “I loved it but had to resign to follow my man everywhere football takes him to. So far, we’ve been settling well and having adventures with our lovely dog.”

When were Virgil Van Dijk and Rike Nooitgedagt married, and do they have kids?
After dating since they were teenagers back in the Netherlands, Van Dijk and Nooitgedagt’s love story opened a new chapter when the happy couple tied the knot in 2017 while the star defender was still playing for Southampton and not Liverpool.

Though they tend to live their life away from social media, Nooitgedagt does enjoy expressing her affection for Van Dijk, captioning one snap with, “I love you not only for who you are but for who I am when I’m with you.”

In terms of children, according to The Sportslite, Van Dijk and Nooitgedagt share two kids together. Their first daughter Nila was born in 2014, and the couple’s second daughter Jadi was born in 2016.

FOOTBALLLiverpool keen to sign Borussia Dortmund winger Donyell Malenby stevenmangan19 March 2024

Liverpool could be looking to bolster their attacking midfield areas in the summer and they have been checking on some of the top talents across Europe.

The Reds will usher in a new direction next summer under a new manager as Jurgen Klopp will step down from his role after nine years at the club. Fenway Sports Group are in the process of setting up the structure, and already Michael Edwards has been appointed as the club’s CEO.

Liverpool will also appoint a sporting director shortly. Edwards has a keen eye for picking up talents, and Liverpool will go through their scouting process rigorously before making moves for new additions.

While the Reds have enough depth and quality in their forward areas, Edwards could make the ruthless decision to offload Mohamed Salah if the Reds receive a good offer from Saudi clubs. Likewise, Cody Gakpo, who has struggled to make a huge impact, could face an uncertain future.

Liverpool in race to sign Borussia Dortmund winger Donyell Malen
According to Sky Sports journalist, Florian Plettenberg, Liverpool are in the race to sign Borussia Dortmund winger Donyell Malen in the summer transfer window.

The Reds could face competition from Arsenal and other Premier League clubs. Fabrizio Romano shared Malen could leave the German club next summer, and he is emerging as a “concrete option” for Liverpool among others.

“News Malen: Been told that ManUtd is not seriously pushing for the 25 y/o winger at this stage! Arsenal, Liverpool and other clubs from the Premier League are more concrete options for him in the summer!,” wrote Plettenberg on X.

The Dutch winger has managed 13 goals and five assists in all competitions this season, and he has a contract at Dortmund until 2026. He wants to leave the club in the summer, and any potential suitor will have to pay a fee of around £34m-£42m to secure his signature.

Should Dalen be tempted to join the Reds, he will find company in compatriots Virgil van Dijk and Ryan Gravenberch at Anfield.
