Liverpool keen to sign Borussia Dortmund winger Donyell Malen by steven mangan
Liverpool could be looking to bolster their attacking midfield areas in the summer and they have been checking on some of the top talents across Europe.
The Reds will usher in a new direction next summer under a new manager as Jurgen Klopp will step down from his role after nine years at the club. Fenway Sports Group are in the process of setting up the structure, and already Michael Edwards has been appointed as the club’s CEO.

Liverpool will also appoint a sporting director shortly. Edwards has a keen eye for picking up talents, and Liverpool will go through their scouting process rigorously before making moves for new additions.
While the Reds have enough depth and quality in their forward areas, Edwards could make the ruthless decision to offload Mohamed Salah if the Reds receive a good offer from Saudi clubs. Likewise, Cody Gakpo, who has struggled to make a huge impact, could face an uncertain future.
Liverpool in race to sign Borussia Dortmund winger Donyell Malen
According to Sky Sports journalist, Florian Plettenberg, Liverpool are in the race to sign Borussia Dortmund winger Donyell Malen in the summer transfer window.
The Reds could face competition from Arsenal and other Premier League clubs. Fabrizio Romano shared Malen could leave the German club next summer, and he is emerging as a “concrete option” for Liverpool among others.
“News Malen: Been told that ManUtd is not seriously pushing for the 25 y/o winger at this stage! Arsenal, Liverpool and other clubs from the Premier League are more concrete options for him in the summer!,” wrote Plettenberg on X.
The Dutch winger has managed 13 goals and five assists in all competitions this season, and he has a contract at Dortmund until 2026. He wants to leave the club in the summer, and any potential suitor will have to pay a fee of around £34m-£42m to secure his signature.
Should Dalen be tempted to join the Reds, he will find company in compatriots Virgil van Dijk and Ryan Gravenberch at Anfield.

Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen stretched their unbeaten run in all competitions to 38 games as they beat Freiburg 3-2 on Sunday.
The result kept Leverkusen 10 points clear of Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga table as Alonso’s team close in on a shock title win. Leverkusen have eight games left, meaning they need five more wins to guarantee the German league title.
Leverkusen’s latest win came amid Liverpool’s 4-3 FA Cup defeat at Manchester United on Sunday. The Reds saw their hopes of a historic quadruple end at Old Trafford as Amad Diallo’s late goal in extra-time clinched the quarter-final tie for Erik ten Hag’s side.

Liverpool’s defeat to their bitter rivals was all the more galling with legendary manager Jurgen Klopp stepping down in the summer. The German will, however, still end the season with silverware after February’s Carabao Cup win – and the Reds are still in the hunt for a treble with the Premier League title race wide open and a place in the Europa League quarter-finals against Atalanta secured.

Alonso is seen as one of the leading contenders to replace Klopp this summer and Leverkusen’s impressive performances are adding stock to his growing reputation as a coach. Like Liverpool, Leverkusen could also end the 2023/24 campaign with three trophies.
Along with their commanding Bundesliga title-race lead, Leverkusen are also in the German Cup semi-finals and could meet Klopp’s Reds in the Europa League final at Dublin Arena on May 22.
Speaking about links with the Liverpool job, Alonso has previously said his focus is on the job he is currently doing in Germany: “Speculation is normal, my focus is here on Bayer Leverkusen. I am very happy at Leverkusen with my players at the moment.
“[It was a] big surprise in Liverpool, of course — for what Jurgen did in Liverpool I have great respect and admiration. I am really happy here. I am enjoying my work here.
“I am feeling each day and each game is a challenge. I am on a beautiful journey in Leverkusen. The next one, I don’t know. I am thinking about where I am right now. I am in a great place and I am enjoying.”

When Liverpool fought out their mesmeric 1-1 draw with Man City earlier this month, it was seen as the end of the Jurgen Klopp/Pep Guardiola Premier League rivalry.
It is the German who boasts the superior head-to-head record, winning eight of their 22 meetings in English football in comparison to the Spaniard’s seven victories. Yet, it is Guardiola who has lifted more silverware.
While Klopp has won every major honour with the Reds, with his second League Cup win last month taking his overall total of trophies at Anfield to eight, Guardiola has won 16 trophies with Man City – including five Premier League titles.

Both Liverpool and Man City are again competing for the title again this year, with the Reds one point ahead of the reigning champions, who currently sit third, with 10 Premier League fixtures remaining.

But while the pair are continuing to battle each other as a result, their 1-1 draw at Anfield at Anfield signalled the end of an era ahead of Klopp’s exit at the end of the season. It was the last time the German’s Liverpool side would take to the field against Guardiola’s Man City.
Of course, such a notion was accompanied by a caveat – It was still possible that they could enjoy one final showdown at Wembley Stadium in the FA Cup. However, the Reds’ quarter-final exit to Manchester United on Sunday has ended any such possibility.
Yet it is actually possible that there could still be one last meeting in the Klopp/Guardiola Liverpool/Man City rivalry. There could still be an unprecedented end to the Premier League season.
While Arsenal are current league-leaders, they only top the table on goal difference ahead of the Reds. With their next Premier League meeting away at Man City on Sunday 31 March, they could easily soon drop to third below both their title-rivals.
And with the margins so narrow between Liverpool and City, their 1-1 draw at Anfield has now opened up the possibility of the pair facing off in a Premier League title play-off at a neutral ground to decide who will be champions come the end of the season.
Should the top two sides in the table finish the campaign level on points, league position is decided on goal difference, then goals scored, then most points in the head-to-head matches, then most away goals in the head-to-head record.
Liverpool currently boast one point more than City and hold a superior goal difference by four (+39 to +35), having scored two more goals than their rivals and conceded two less. It is still feasible that such records could end up identical come May.
Beyond that, it comes to head-to-head record. Yet Liverpool and Man City fought out 1-1 draws at both the Etihad and at Anfield. Consequently, there would be no way to separate them and, in such a scenario, a 39th game would be required.
In contrast, there is no chance of the Reds contesting a Premier League play-off to decide the destination of the title if they finished level on points with Arsenal.

The Gunners boast a superior GD of +46 (having scored five more and conceded two less than Liverpool) and also beat Klopp’s men on head-to-head record. They drew 1-1 at Anfield back in December, before winning 3-1 at the Emirates at the start of February.
With Mikel Arteta’s men winning 1-0 at home to Man City back in October, only a 1-0 loss at the Etihad next month would make their own Premier League title play-off against Guardiola’s men possible.
Admittedly, numerous stars still need to align for such a play-off scenario to become reality. But it does remain a possibility that a 39th game would be required to separate Liverpool and City after their 1-1 draw at Anfield ensured an identical head-to-head record.
There will no doubt be plenty more twists and turns over the final 10 games of the season, but as things stand, there is virtually nothing to separate Klopp and Guardiola’s sides. Dropped points here and a heavy win there, and the pair could easily find themselves having to lock horns once more.
At the very least, it would be the most fitting end to Klopp and Guardiola’s rivalry on English soil, facing off in a play-off clash where the stakes have never been higher. In what would be the most exciting finish ever to a Premier League season, one last clash between the old foes cannot yet be discounted despite Liverpool’s FA Cup exit.

Liverpool face a fortnight’s break and they will be looking to refocus ahead of a hectic end to the season.
The Reds are still firmly in the race for the Premier League title come the end of the campaign having already bagged the Carabao Cup. They are also still in the Europa League after thumping Czech side Sparta Prague.
Unfortunately for the Reds, they won’t be lifting four trophies in May. Jurgen Klopp’s side were ousted from the FA Cup by fierce rivals Manchester United.
The German will be aiming to get his side back on track after the current international break. With that being said, take a look at all of the headlines to come out of Anfield over the past 24 hours.

Six times Jurgen Klopp was a sore loser and lost his cool after storming out of TV interview
Klopp ‘screamed’ during furious showdown
Liverpool boss Klopp screamed and yelled at a reporter after storming out of a TV interview at Old Trafford. A clip of the German has gone viral in which he claimed that the reporter was “not in a great shape”.
The interviewer, Danish broadcaster Niels Christian Frederiksen, has now revealed how long the tense exchange was going on. Speaking to Tipsbladet, he said: “I was very surprised by it, and those standing around were scared, and they were almost pressed up against the wall like: ‘wow, what the hell just happened here?’
“It continued after what was seen on TV. He continued down the hallway, where he yelled and screamed at me. I also followed him because I thought it was something strange.”
Elliott gives verdict on FA Cup exit
While Klopp was visibly frustrated at Liverpool’s elimination at Old Trafford, goalscorer Harvey Elliott was in a slightly more optimistic mood. The midfielder believes that the Reds’ exit could potentially be a blessing in disguise as they continue their fight for three trophies.
He said: “Now we can focus on other things, it frees up a few weeks for us. Not as many games any more so the lads can be fresh and we can recover properly and focus on the rest of the season.”
“Our confidence is always there, it isn’t going to affect us at all,” the Liverpool star added. “We’re going to be annoyed that we didn’t win but we’re going away with internationals now, so we can forget about it and come back after the break fresh again ready to crack down and fight for the rest of the season.”

Reds in Man Utd transfer battle
Despite losing to Man United on the pitch, Liverpool are keen for a rematch off of it. According to reports in Germany, the Reds are interested in a deal for Borussia Dortmund forward Donyell Malen.
It is suggested that Liverpool are keen on the Dutch forward, having previously been linked with him before his move to Germany. A price of around £51.3m has been touted.
Liverpool aren’t the only Premier League side linked. Arsenal are reportedly admirers, while Manchester United could move in a potential swap deal involving Jadon Sancho.
