Liverpool expect to seal first signing this week, agent will travel to England in next few hours – journalist

Liverpool are expected to wrap up the deal for Brighton midfielder Alexis Mac Allister this week, as per transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.

The Reds are looking to bolster their midfield this summer and they have earmarked Mac Allister as their priority signing.

The 24-year-old midfielder enjoyed a fantastic 2022-23 campaign for Brighton and also won the World Cup with Argentina.

Romano says that Mac Allister’s father and agent will travel to England in the next few hours, as they look to reach a personal agreement with Liverpool.

His father will be working on getting the deal done for his son, and the Reds expect to complete everything within this week.

“Understand Alexis Mac Allister’s father and agent will travel to England in the next few hours — as Liverpool want to complete final details on personal terms agreement,” wrote Romano.

“The expectation is to get the deal done next week, his father will be in England to work on that.”

Jurgen Klopp has stressed the importance of adding new faces in midfield after the Reds failed to finish in the top four this season.

The club offloaded the likes of Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner, and they need a few players to replenish the void.

Mac Allister managed 10 goals and two assists in the Premier League this season, and he would be a smart addition to the Reds’ squad.

Liverpool are also linked with Mac Allister’s club teammate, Moises Caicedo, but doubts remain whether the Reds will go after him.
