Liverpool shared a thrilling 1-1 draw against Man City in the Premier League title race.

Jurgen Klopp reckons that Liverpool’s performance against Manchester City could not have been any better.
The Reds shared a 1-1 draw against Pep Guardiola’s side at Anfield in the Premier League title race. The visitors took the lead through John Stone in the 23rd minute but Liverpool’s response was excellent. They got level on 50 minutes through Alexis Mac Allister’s penalty after Darwin Nunez was fouled by City goalkeeper Ederson.

Klopp’s troops then took the game to the current champions, with Luis Diaz spurning a couple of good chances and Nunez having an effort saved. Jeremy Doku hit the post for City on 89 minutes before Liverpool had a penalty appeal turned down in stoppage-time when Mac Allister went down under a challenge from Doku.
It means the Reds are second in the table on 64 points with Arsenal ahead on goal difference while City are a point behind. And Klopp has urged Liverpool to build on their performance as they aim not only to win the Premier League but four trophies in his final season as manager.
Klopp told reporters: “On the scale I rate football games there is no higher scale than playing the best football you can play against Man City, causing City the problems we caused them today.
“I was not here in the press conference but probably Pep [Guardiola] saw it as well, that this was a different game to other games we played against them. Very often when we won it was counter-attack, quick-thinking, shots from distance. How we played through the midfield today, that was some of the best moments of my coaching career, to be honest, that we are able to do that against them.

“You see a situation when Luis Diaz against [Kyle] Walker, who is officially the fastest [player] in the Premier League, I think they said that recently, and Rodri and he gets out of that. It’s absolutely incredible! So, the boys really wanted it, a really good performance, massive heart, sensational atmosphere, one point. Let’s keep going.”

Peter Drury shares what the VAR official said after Jeremy Doku’s tackle in the last minute vs Liverpool
Peter Drury has now shared what the VAR officials said when Manchester City’s Jeremy Doku tackled Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister late on today.
Although the game ended in a draw, Mac Allister and his teammates seemed incensed that they weren’t awarded a late penalty for a high challenge.
Jeremy Doku appeared to make contact with the ball first but then followed through to place his boot on the Liverpool midfielder’s chest.
And although VAR checked the incident, they decided there wasn’t sufficient evidence to overturn the on-field decision of no penalty.
Of course, this is bound to be a huge talking point in the aftermath of the game, especially in a match with such fine margins.
And had Liverpool received a late penalty, then they could have been catapulted forward in the title race had the spot-kick been dispatched.
That being said, Peter Drury was commentating on the game for Sky Sports and shared what the VAR officials said when Liverpool demanded a penalty.
Peter Drury shares what the VAR officials said when Liverpool demanded a penalty late on
Drury simply relayed the VAR’s message, suggesting there was no reason to overturn the tight call.
He said: “Word from the VAR, Doku played it in a reasonable position.”
It’ll certainly be interesting to hear what the likes of both Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola thought of the call.
It would be a surprise if Pep thought a penalty should have been awarded, but Klopp may well have a different tune.
And although the Liverpool manager would have preferred the likes of Luis Diaz to settle the game, he may feel as if his team were slightly robbed late on.
It’s definitely a contentious one, and the debate will probably continue into the coming days.
The likes of Peter Drury and Gary Neville seemed to think City could be in danger when watching the events unfold live, but VAR ultimately deemed there to be no foul play on the Liverpool midfielder.
Definitely one that will divide opinion, and it’ll probably be a fairly even split depending on which side of the title race fans are on.
That being said, Mike Dean also noticed something extraordinary that Darwin Nunez did during today’s game.

Liverpool should have been awarded a stoppage-time penalty against Manchester City but this is the problem in the Premier League right now – referees are making mistakes in matches and not being helped by their VARs.

The ball bounces up. Alexis Mac Allister moves towards it. Jeremy Doku’s foot is high. He catches Mac Allister in the chest.
Outside of the box, this would have resulted in a free-kick, every day of the week. Just because it happened inside the box does not suddenly transform it into a clean challenge when Mac Allister might be left playing connect the dots on his chest on Monday morning.
Regardless of the magnitude of the match and the fact it happened in the 98th minute, this was an incident worthy of a penalty.
Referee Michael Oliver missed it in real time at the end of an exhausting and exhilarating contest and so it was on VAR Stuart Attwell to intervene.

This is where the frustration lies – we have seen similar incidents this weekend where Stockley Park should have told their colleagues on the ground that they had missed a penalty or a red card but didn’t.
You only needed to watch Match of the Day 2 to see how other matches were let down by decisions. Everybody could see this was a penalty for Liverpool.
Except VAR, that is, and it is that official’s opinion who matters most in this major moments of matches.

Gary Neville amazed by ‘perfect’ £10m Liverpool player during second-half against Man City
Gary Neville was left amazed by Andrew Robertson heading into the final 20 minutes at Anfield on Sunday as the Liverpool left-back created a brilliant opportunity for Darwin Nunez.
The Reds played out a fascinating draw with Manchester City. The champions took the lead in the first-half through John Stones. But the Reds equalised after the break, with Alexis Mac Allister scoring from the spot.
Both sides had glorious chances to win from there. Certainly, Luis Diaz will have nightmares about some of the opportunities he passed up.
Gary Neville praises Andrew Robertson in Liverpool draw
But Darwin Nunez was also denied by a point blank save from Stefan Ortega, who replaced Ederson shortly after the Manchester City goalkeeper brought down Nunez for the penalty.
The chance came about following a sumptuous cross from Andrew Robertson. And speaking on Sky Sports (broadcast on 10/3; 17:15), Gary Neville was full of praise for the Scotland international.
“What a ball from Robertson. Sensational cross,” he said.
“This is the Ortega save. It’s a wonderful ball from Andy Robertson. In between centre-backs and goalkeeper, perfect for Nunez.”
Reds still fighting for this title
Liverpool have had to deal with so many injuries this season. And it is surely fair to say that Robertson has not been at his very best when he has played over the last few weeks.
But clearly, the £10 million man’s quality is undeniable. Had Nunez been a couple of yards further out, he would have had an amazing chance to put Liverpool in front against the Cityzens.
Liverpool have not got the depth that their title rivals appear to have right now. But their players will be absolutely desperate to send their manager off in the best way possible this summer.
And having players such as Robertson at full fitness and sharpness again is only going to boost their hopes of getting across the line.

At the end of the season, liverpool has three goals to accomplish. They already won the carabao cup last weekend when they defeated chelsea at wembley stadium, and now they will try to do the same with the fa cup, the premier league, and the uefa europa league.
They will, however, have to solve a serious problem as soon as possible: injuries. During the last few months, many major players have had physical injuries that have prevented them from playing, and jurgen klopp has had to provide opportunities to young players to fill those empty spaces.
Among them are mohamed salah, diogo jota, darwin nunez, dominik szoboszlai, trent alexander-arnold, and thiago alcantara. And alisson becker. Just a few weeks ago, the goalkeeper sustained a muscle injury, and his recovery would take longer than expected.
In fact, dorival junior, the brazilian national team’s coach, has confirmed that he will not be available for the international break friendly matches against england and spain in march. Liverpool will not be able to use him for a long time either.
Although Caoimhin Kelleher has shown excellent performances every time he has had the chance to play, Alisson is a key part of the team and Klopp needs to have him back as soon as possible. The decisive stage of the season is approaching and the German manager wants to count on his best players. However, the Brazilian goalkeeper’s future could be far from Anfield Road.
What will happen to him?
This Thursday Liverpool fans were shocked by what one of the squad’s players said about Alisson Becker’s future. In an interview with D Sports, Alexis MacAllsiter revealed what is one of the Brazilian goalkeeper’s dreams for his professional career: “Alisson tells me that he would like to play at the Bombonera,” said the midfielder. The Bombonera is the home stadium of Boca Juniors, one of Argentina’s top clubs, and is famous for its unusual structure and how the chants of the fans echo from the stands. What is not clear is whether Alisson wants to play for Boca in the future or whether he will be happy to play in a game there sometime.

‘Far too strong’… Tim Sherwood says he can only see one team winning in Man City vs Liverpool
Sat 9 March 2024 21:30
James Thompson
Tim Sherwood has said that Liverpool have no chance of beating Manchester City tomorrow.
After the two sides won their respective midweek European games, they are now preparing to face off against each other at Anfield for their latest Premier League meeting.
Despite both teams currently fighting to win the title, one pundit and former top-flight manager has claimed that only one side have a chance of walking away with all three points on this occasion.
Sherwood says Liverpool have no chance against City

Speaking on Soccer Saturday, Sherwood had this to say about tomorrow’s big game.
He said: “I don’t see Liverpool winning the game tomorrow, I really don’t. I think Man City’s midfield is far too strong for Liverpool’s at the moment.
MORE MAN CITY STORIES
“They need Mo Salah fit, if Mo Salah’s not fit and doesn’t play 90 minutes in this game or doesn’t start the game I don’t see them winning.
“I see Man City dominating the ball in the midfield areas, the likes of Rodri, [Kevin] De Bruyne and [Phil] Foden at the moment – just incredible, probably the form player in the Premier League at the moment.”
Even though Liverpool are above City in the table and have scored more goals and conceded fewer than City this season, it’s interesting to hear that Sherwood doesn’t think they’ll win, in addition to the fact that they have a very good record against the Manchester club at Anfield.
Interestingly, with Sherwood suggesting City will win the midfield battle on this occasion, they have had more touches in the midfield third of the pitch (10088) than any other side in the league this season.
However, only Bournemouth (193) have made more tackles in the midfield third than Liverpool (191) have in this campaign, which suggests that this may not be as big a problem for them as Sherwood thinks it could be.
