Jürgen Klopp discusses John Henry meeting as Bayern Munich ready for Liverpool transfer battle

Welcome to the Liverpool.com daily Media Digest. From transfers to tweets, it can be hard to keep up with everything going on in the Anfield sphere. Credible, incredible and anything in between: we round it all up in one place here, taking a sideways look at the day’s media goings-on from around the world.

Klopp discusses meeting with Liverpool owner

The next few months could prove pivotal for Liverpool, with a major squad rebuild expected as Jürgen Klopp looks to restore his side back to previous levels. It has been a disappointing season for the Reds, but a host of smart buys in the upcoming transfer window could arrest the slide.

The sight of John W Henry at the London Stadium earlier this week did leave some speculating over whether a meeting had been held between the Liverpool owner and Klopp in the capital, and what the agenda would be surrounding any talks. The German boss has confirmed that he met with the FSG chief, but he is remaining tight-lipped about the content of those discussions, although he did admit that the talks were positive.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Klopp said: “I find it really funny what the expectations are on a talk like this that I sit there and put my ideas on the table and John says: ‘How much is this? How much is that?’ It is not like this.

Bayern Munich ready for ‘bidding war’ for Liverpool target

Klopp’s relative coyness surrounding Liverpool’s activity ahead of this summer has not stopped any speculation surrounding the future of one of the Reds’ long-rumored targets, however. Although one England international has been heavily linked with a move to Merseyside this summer, it appears that competition has emerged for his signature.

When Liverpool pulled out of the race for Jude Bellingham, many observers will have presumed that a deal for Chelsea’s Mason Mount would be high on the agenda for Anfield’s recruitment chiefs. Although there is no indication that the Reds are not in the running for the midfielder’s services, German giants Bayern Munich are ready to enter a bidding war to sign the 24-year-old, according to Football Insider.

Thomas Tuchel, of course, worked with Mount at Stamford Bridge and the links do not come as a major surprise given how he excelled under the German’s tutelage previously. With the midfielder’s contract expiring in a year, it seems likely that he may move on and his relationship with Bayern’s current manager may give the German side an advantage in the race.
